This is a great point. When you are a struggling side then relying on organic growth is obviously stupid. However when you are flying and have just hit the draft hard for the last 5 years then it is absolutely the best option.

People who want us to sell the farm for an Oliver this year are conveniently forgetting 2 important points. Firstly he takes the spot of a younger player and so halts someone’s development, and secondly you lose draft collateral and salary cap which prevents you attracting better options in the future, or more importantly securing your Tillthorpe, Curtins and Michalaneys now.
Adding experience like a Petracca, that people are bemoaning us missing ......but the current claim on GCS is for #6 and #8 by MELB

If people are happy for one flag, then sure, go all in and hope your premiership run has no injury hiccups .....if you want a GEEL type dynasty ....then you can't be selling the farm for one player

What it does say, in a round-about way, is the chasing of multiple MIDS, indicates the Club hasn't huge faith in some of the SANFL Mids for 2026 .....TWT if that's a justified POV

I do think some shifting of player magnets (roles) could help .....and remember, people were not talking about this midfield during the Home & Away season .....the finals changed perspectives .....but did it also change perspectives on GEEL ?

Interesting take then .....so ever mid that doesn't make it, it's solely the result of our Coaches .....there's no responsibility on the players

So, Shoenberg's delisting was all on the Coaches

There's a balance. At other clubs, I think it's fair to say that some players just don't have what it takes, and it's not a development issue. There are some success, and some fails; clubs don't get every pick right.

I think it's very unlikely, given the number of midfielders we've drafted and the position we've taken those players in the draft, that we've just drafted a huge bunch of duds over the course of a decade.

Do you really believe our drafting is that bad?

Lets say for one crazy moment, you were right ....that would mean those players delisted would then be picked up by Clubs, recognising the talent

So, how many of players we have delisted, have been then picked up by other Clubs ....and go onto proving your theory ?

Can I suggest to you, that said players now & into the future .....may stop developing & reach a ceiling not acceptable at AFL level .....and could this be a result of said player's workrate, and desire to improve

Cream rises to the top .....we've held back, none to my recall, that have gone onto embarrass us

The damage done by poor development is not necessarily reversable, especially after many years in the system

That no club has been able to take our players (most of which are still on the list anyway) and reverse what we have done is not indicative of anything

You obviously haven’t read much of the hysterical moaning on this board then.😂

The funny thing about Oliver is that it was posted that if we didn’t land Trac, we still had him as a viable option. At the same time we had posters saying that Suns chasing JUH would cost them Trac. The amount of wilful delusion sprouted on this board around trades is hilarious.

Even more reason for them to reinvent their list then.

Of course, selling to their supporters that they need another rebuild, after only making a single prelim with the last one, will be…difficult.
You should have a quick read through their board. Most of them have already accepted they need to go back to the well

Here probably .. some peanut probably made up a story and everyone's rolling with now because half the folk on here are disappointed we didn't pull 3 new players again via trades, that the Ah Chee trade is taking a while or both A and B

The legit stories floating around about clubs, list managers and heads of football that were difficult to deal with all pointed to Essendon, Port and St Kilda

How’s that chip on your shoulder going? It was a herald sun article and posted on Adelaidenow. Player managers were surveyed, I don’t have HS subscription, but below is a FB article regarding it. From memory Reid was 4th hardest.

Isn't Geelong doing that for Curnow?

Jars on triple m dropped the crows are into a high quality mid not talked about anywhere and they are close to getting their signature. It’s on the blewy and jars Instagram.

Could be a bit of clarkson 2.0 considering its coming from jars.. has a terrible track record

Not sure when it was recorded but it is there latest podcast
Jars: "Please listen to my radio show"

Based on our pursuits of NWM and Petracca we have over $1 million of spare space in our salary cap, which I guess is going unused or on contract front loading
Plenty to extend Thilthorpe to a long-term deal & front load him.

Should be the priority!

Unusual for them, sure ....but are they really ?

3 x 1st round picks have been scoffed at by CARL, because of where they are likely to drift out to (20's)

Has their club?

Also not sure the more casual Carlton fan will be as accepting.

The 2015-2018 period of drafting was supposed to be their big surge.
I was just pointing to the BF board .. no idea what the club is spruiking in the media

****en lol .. you massive D/H

What the **** have I got to do with the article that you can't read

Did you start early on the piss today?

It doesn’t take a genius to see that Reid would be difficult to deal with going by his interviews.
I think he won’t be bent over, more than he’d be hard to deal with. I think we have paid pretty close to market value for all our recent acquisitions, we haven’t paid overs like we had on occasion prior to him. Some clubs aren’t happy they couldn’t get more, but they got what the circumstances determined the market rate was at the time. He has proven he gets the job done most of the time.
I’m pretty happy with him. He’s not impossible to deal with like that Essendon flog was.

I saw this reported somewhere else earlier this year but I forget where. Something about how Reid was one of the more difficult list managers to work with.
Incorrect the Crows are in the bottom 5 when a survey was taken of player managers by Code Sports only in July this year, Justin Reid's name wasn't even mentioned in the article.

St Kilda has been named as the most difficult club to deal with by player managers surveyed in an exclusive Code Sports investigation into the biggest issues facing the game’s deal makers.
29.4 per cent labelled the Saints the hardest club to do business with.

Port Adelaide was not far behind, collecting 17.6 per cent of the votes, while Collingwood and Essendon both received 11.8 per cent.

That just looks like we garnered a single vote along with Dogs, North, Eagles and Cats. Calling it bottom 5 is very generous.

Tend to agree however I think he comes across as a bit prickly.

Make of it whatever you like it's patently obvious we are a long way off of other clubs when it comes to being hard to deal with.

Those numbers look statistically meaningless to me. 18 clubs surveyed for nine different responses, including five clubs mentioned once and two mentioned twice. Essentially just says that St Kilda have pissed a few teams off and after that it's a wash.
