We will pay an inflated price as the buyer, but I think a f2 may do the job for the club.
Is there any reason to think GWS would demand that tho?
Its certainly more than I'd be happy offering.
If anything I wonder whether the Saints debacle will make them sympathetic and decrease the likelihood of hardball negotiation tactics.

Aleer lost 50% of his 1 on 1s. That's.... gnarly
Here's the plan. We tell him and Comben to start at opposite sides of the 50 and play on nobody. When the ball gets kicked in to the 50 they sprint at the contest as fast as they can. When we are down by 72 points at quarter time because the midfield can't defend, we put one of them forward until they get injured by sprinting at 400% directly into an opposition defender's elbow

In what world does Fly have a private conversation with Rowbottom on coming to the Pies. And within hours it’s a public story.

It would not surprise me that Cleary set the call up on a conference Zoom. Sycophants the lot of them.
Same as Mitchell meeting with Merrett, which was a bigger story.

You might find it's less about the media, and more about the player agents who start these bonfires.

Sydney are absolutely mad letting him go if that is correct.

He is the player that completely unlocks Gulden, Heeney and Warner. Good luck to them playing those 3 without him.

Likewise, we could swap one of the most unaccountable mids in the league for one of the most accountable.

I’m all in for essentially trading Simpkin for Rowbottom.

This is Dunkley 2.0

He’s perfect for LDU, Sheezel and Colby.

He is a MUCH better footballer than Windhager.
If the end result for Sydney is losing Rowbottom to get Curnow, I can see why they would do it. They can cover a Rowbottom loss, but their tall forwards are very average.

That's an improvement at least.

Our Defenders are going at about 75% - hence we have the worst Defence in the league.

From his highlights, he'd be dynamic across half back and he'd be a third tall.

If he keeps Logue or Corr out - and we play Dawson and Chom deeper - he'd have paid for himself.

If we persist with what we have down back, we deserve what we get.

I took it as being pressure on Jy - "we'd love to have you but we have other options, so you need to actually tell NMFC you want out or we move on to other targets".

Our key defenders don't lose many one on ones, they are never within 30 metres of their opponents.

LEEK ALEER
Aleer had his world turned upside down when St Kilda pulled out of what had previously been amicable negotiations with Greater Western Sydney around a deal last Thursday. Now, he's searching for another club. North Melbourne is investigating the possibility of a trade, while the Giants have a three-year deal on the table for Aleer to stay on heavily revised terms. If the Kangas pursue Aleer, it's likely the Giants will continue holding out for a future second-round selection for the athletic defender.

JY SIMPKIN
Collingwood holds an interest in Simpkin, who has explored his options but has yet to officially request a trade out of North Melbourne. However, there are roadblocks. The Kangas would drive a hard bargain to let their contracted captain leave, with the expectation being that it would take a very good first-round pick to prise him out of Arden Street. The Pies aren't due to start at the draft until pick No.39, while they have another gap before their next selection at No.59. They have explored ways to get up the board with rival clubs, but whether that's for Simpkin or to regenerate through the draft is unclear.

It's not. And they're not. Corr is at a 50% loss-rate for his short stint, and the rest of them range from high 20s to late 30s, as a percentage. Logue the outlier with 22%, but his problem is that he doesn't even get there to make a contest in the first place

I don't get the Rowbottom splooge fest. He ain't coming to us if his other options are Collingwood or Carlton, even if we can pay him more.
George Hewett just won a B&F playing in his exact role for Carlton. Moving there would be as dumb as Grundy joining Melbourne.

Collingwood won't have a pick in the top 40 this year so they'd probably have to offer an F1 to make it happen. Would they really do that just to upgrade Ned Long?

If we can turn Simpkin into Rowbottom and Aleer and pick in the 20s it’s a win.
I pass no judgement on Rowbottom as a player, but if Sydney trade either him or Hayward, it will be part of the Curnow trade. If that's true, then Carlton have got as much need as us for either player, in which case they don't end at Arden st.

If we are forced to consider something for Simpkin (and I'd prefer he stays) then we should be saying to Collingwood give up something to GWS so we get Aleer.

We'd need something else on top of that, but it's where I'd start - make it Collingwood's problem
