This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

Tell you what though, it's fascinating observing the two distinct type of Bombre posters on their board. Half seem to think they can trade Zach next year for the deal they wanted tonight, while the other half know how much they pissed away, and also know he'll be lucky to get a late first rounder next year.
Sorry for the intrusion but you're absolutely right. It's worse than that though. I agree with a lot on here that Rosa and co wanted to do it and were vetoed by Welsh - the moment he came in as president during this period I worried that would be the case. People getting caught up on it being pick 10, 22 and say 30 next year also forget we got Zach at pick 26 so who cares what the numbers are - you hope Rosa does a better job picking players than Dodo did and move on. Really set us back just to strike his own ego (Welsh). Also, Zach should have spoken publicly way earlier and I think TP erred by getting the Hawks to delay giving their first offer - may have been different but also Welsh still probably would've screwed it anyway.

Montagna said everyone around us got better lets evaluate.

Brisbane Allen maybe Draper maybe.
Geelong nothing.
Pies nothing.
Adelaide nothing
Suns Petracca yes
Freo nothing
GWS Oliver maybe

Brisbane the worry now Suns clearly soon. Forget Merrett or any other scum player and forget butters. Start targeting Lions and Suns players have to start being squeezed out so get ahead of that and make a big play in 2026 so we control who leaves not them.

Also stop worrying about the media (I started by referencing Montagna but it was to make a factual point). The media cheerleaders are all the scum have. They just cost themselves a really good deal to rebuild a dire list. Well played the leadership of the last continues and long may it continue.

Geelong did get 'better'.

Lost nobody and gained Worpel for free.

I've heard we offered 4 firsts at the end so Essendon refused that is ****ing hillarious

Edit: They wanted a future 2nd on top. Tom Petroro was seething last night. He has quite a few players under his wing including current Essendon players

It’ll all come out in the wash over the next few days. After discussions and a handshake agreement between Rob FK, Matt and Mark, Essendon were given a narrow window to move aggressively, with West Coast and Richmond still active in the building. Then the board stepped in, beat their chests and vetoed the deal, a move that not only hurt the Bombers’ position but left their own recruiting team frustrated and dejected. Yet, remarkably, the internal spin is that they won.

It's not really we walked out in the same position we walked in. Dons though, would have been planning to build around Merrett as one of the centre pieces over the next 5 but the cats out of the bag, it won't just go back in... They are celebrating because we didn't improve on their expenses but they have moved backwards in doing so.

We walked in wanting to add to our midfield depth but we were never going to sell our soul to do so.

I would call it a stalemate and look at the player manager.

We will back our young core in Ward, Mackenzie,Weddle,C-mac,Butler. to take the next step it could just take a extra 12 months.

They absolutely lose, who is going to want to go play for them now. We looked bad as well but it's just optics that will be quickly forgotten when the footy does the talking again, meanwhile they will be going backwards with the culture getting more fractures as the year plays out and things get tough. Look at what happen at the dees this year.

It was reported on 3AW that we relented and offered 4 at the death. Not sure if accurate.

Complete madness. There was not one rational moment during the entire saga. And what was also crazy was the way the media pushed the narrative about Merrett's worth as if there was any reality to it. Utter morons.

Draft planning starts now:
Hopefully try & bundle up the picks from Merrett trade to try & shake pick 4 out of Richmond and take Sullivan Robey if not for anything to rub it in Essendone's face as they are into him big time

If not projected to be at our pick are:
Sam Grlj
"the bison" Mitch Marsh
Ollie Greaves
Jevan Phillpou
&
Wizard clone Lachy Dovaston

second pick lots of NGA & academy picks around the mark but Latrelle Pickett cousin of Kosi could be a good pick up around that range

We must really think these drafts are dogsh1te.
It's the only way I can make any sense of our offers.

You need to add TB, Amon and Impey for us mate.

Get Bruhn back too so their midfield depth improves

While what happened with Essendon was not Hawthorn’s fault, there’s no escaping that the trade period was a massive failure. Our list and even draft hand weakened while Lions and Suns significantly strengthened. Swans too, who I expect will bounce right back into contending next year.

They are younger than all the players I mentioned, if I add them I need to go through and add others to the other teams as well. I set the line at Sicily thereabouts or older.

That's insane if its true, spitefulness.

We improved our draft hand, slid back one spot for a pick that Carlton has tied to HArry Dean so that cancels it out while gaining a second first round & getting out junk picks

Like Sicily. They're all 30 mate
What age DOB do I need to do to appease you I'll go through and add another 15 names if it makes you happy sir 😂

I just used Draft Guru and it has a bunch of later birthdays as a younger as they take the mid year point as the cut off,

It was very obvious that Welsh was exerting his newfound power. In the end it didnt matter what deal we offered it was getting declined.

Yet, the bizarre thing is that if Welsh was genuine then Rosa wouldnt have been fielding offers so they actually were open to something. Once we had offered everything what more were they expecting?

Did Welsh really think genuine top 22 players would end up wanting to go there? That level of delusion just consigns them to years more being shit.

We pump them by 15 goals in R1 and move on.
