Melbourne were in a similar boat around 5-6 years ago, and made a few tweaks around the core of Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, May and Lever.
And I really, really, really hope Carlton truly believe that is an accurate comparison, despite:

Gawn - Carlton have no equivalent
Oliver (at a time he was winning b2b Coaches Awards) - 30 year old Cripps is the Carlton equivalent.
Viney - Walsh is the Carlton equivalent. Can he get on the park?
Petracca - Carlton have no equivalent.
May - Weitering is the equivalent. Tick. We have one.
Lever - Carlton have no equivalent.

Then Carlton have Curnow (who has one foot out the door) and Harry.

But yeah, Carlton 2026 can be just like Melbourne 2021....

Not really a valid comparison, Blues have a different side and game plan.

Melb had the covid interruptions in their favour too, Blues are much better placed

Carlton have done well in adding some meat and potatoes type players this trade period, you need solid squad depth to contend for a premiership and the likes of Reidy, Chesser and Ainsworth give Voss some more levers to pull.

Going to be hard to finish above Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide or Geelong.. so 5th-12th spot for me

Nope. Time for a rebuild.

Re-stumping?

Renovation?

If they lose Curnow, SOS and TDK 2026 looks very shakey IMO. Could go either way.

All depends who comes in and the fallout / attitude of the remaining playing group. And if they have the coaches back.

Blues could make finals or finish 18th. They are a very interesting group leading into 2026.

So far they lok to have lost more than they gained. But they did underperform in 2025, imo could have been pushing top four.
Coaching change needed, early in the season, to do anything more than scrape into the eight. The best thing that could happen to them is some serious beltings by expected lower half teams in the first few rounds and force a change. That might be the difference between an 8-12 win season and a 13-15 win season.

They won't finish bottom three though. The bottom three teams are all way too far back to climb on their own merits; though Melbourne and Essendon might fall behind one of North or Richmond depending how the remaining trades - and in-season injuries - play out.

I don't think they'll win a single game.
oh please. They will play Eagles at least once, and if they get the perenially injured Bombers in the 2nd half of the year when they have traditionally checked out, they will win that

They lose Cripps and Mckay in season after Curnow, TDK, and SOS leaving and they could finsh 18th IMO.

Or everything might click and they finish in finals.

Injury. McKay isnt exactly showing durability and Cripps has clocked up a lot of miles on the OD.

Point is losing TDK, Silvani and potentionally Curnow leaves the Blues short if they lose two more important players.
We'd still have a competitive midfield even if Cripps went down, Mckay going down without Curnow would be a bit disastrous though.

Im now thinking Curnow stays. Hopefully he is professional enough nexy year to give 100% to the cause and not be petulant about not being traded.

We may not play finals but I can not see us being worse than we were this year.. Silvagni only played 13 games, Curnow was largely irrelevant and an actual hinderance for most of the season, Docherty was cooked. TDK is the only player who I think we will genuinely miss from this season. .

On the flipside we get Newman back, 4 players in Chesser, Ainsworth, Hayward & Florent who immediately make us better. I expect Walsh to have a huge season and Cripps to return to some form, the last time Harry McKay played a season without Charlie Curnow he won the coleman and was All Australian. If we can make a run at finals I think will largely come down to luck with injury and Voss being able to implement a modern game plan, which i have my doubts.

Hayward and Florent are great gets. Chesser, Ainsworth are also very handy additions.

I am sticking by my prediction that they are a good flag chance.

Weitering
Newman
McGovern
Williams
Motlop
McKay
Kemp
Cerra
Walsh
Cripps
Hayward
Florent
Ainsworth
Hewett
Young
Saad
Evans

That is a team of several A grade players, a lot of capable B grade players and players that can turn into role players.

Key issues;
Fitness
Game plan
Speed

Reinvigorate those 3 points and that list is top 4.
