Is he allowed to train with us Pre being drafted??
If he's technically still on Brisbane's list, I don't think so. I could be wrong though.

Being the unwritten rule of the PSD is clubs select who they have already decided to get, most often fallen through trades essentially making it a FA system.

Should the AFL refine it and kill the PSD draft to replace it with a final list lodgement and contract day? I know they want to differentiate it from the FA system but really is there any point?

My idea would be keep it simple: The PSD roles into the ND, the Crows must nominate a draft pick or draft picks to the value of 1000 points for an experienced AFL player with X games experience for example. This player cant be bid on, its just automatically used for Ah Chee. So instead of Brisbane gaining draft picks via trade, the Crows use ND draft picks instead. However multiple picks can be used to make up the points.

The last few pages of this thread are irrefutable evidence that the gap between trade period and the preseason draft is FAAAAAAAR too long…
It is.. but it has to take into account year 12 exams for the potential draftee’s..

This is spot on - there is an unwritten AFL policy for clubs not to jump in and take a player in the PSD if they already have a destination in mind.

The reason for this is for the betterment of the game.

We all know - NRL doesn’t have a draft or trade system because it was challenged in court, the AFL will always protect itself against any threat of restraint of trade.

When AH Chee situations arise, the AFL, AFLPA and Agents take the opportunity to remind clubs of this unwritten policy.

This is a FACT

True. My point was more about the break causing an increased tendency to stray off topic

The AFL is pretty protected with the contracts and draft system as far as legality goes. However contract disputes can happen.

A fact there’s an unwritten policy? Have you asked Hugh greenwood about that?

Hugh Greenwood signed with North as a DFA. North went to him with a deal he was happy to accept. They didn't pick him in the PSD.

I thought there was some controversy about the way it went down?

I thought there was some controversy about the way it went down?

It was more a case of, GC delisted him to re-rookie him, rather than a failed trade situation. That also hardly ever happens, so it was a shock, but Greenwood had to agree.

Only really that North jumped in and lured him away. Bit of an FU from Hugh to the Suns. That’s the risk, not that the player will be selected without having spoken to and agreed with that club, but that there’s a window that allows other clubs to tempt you with similar deals seeing you’re effectively free.

Port would definitely have had a convo with Ah Chee’s management.

Wait Jake Stringer was delisted?

The Crows have lost nothing if this doesn’t go to plan and another club picks him up. Although disappointing, the only club who loses out is Brisbane. We still have every pick, player and salary that we started with. We probably just lost the ability to make our team stronger. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

So we do lose something then by not getting him?

Except that we go in one player short on our list. Unless we select an ssp
