Problem with setterfeild is fully fit he’s probably in our best 22 and playing a role that will likely hold out younger mids we are trying to develop. He is also injury prone, so once he gets in and they start getting cohesive in the middle, he then gets injured. While I don't actually think Setterfield is the best option I reckon it will be him.
I would rather give a young kid a go or hold the pick over until the mid season draft to see what falls out there.
It's a good question. We had at least 6 days to plan a contingency. We must have been waiting to know the extent of the damage, given it was healing. Maybe that's more complicated than knowing when it's a fresh injury.Surely Martin re-did his knee well before the draft? How did the club take so long to diagnose that we missed taking another pick in the ND/rookie draft? Especially considering an ACL on game day is 99% diagnosed on the spot and 100% confirmed by the next day. We're now left with the scraps of the draft after everyone else has had their pick...
Surely we throw a line out to Hibbins-Hargreaves...
The club didn't set the time line. They take on the advice of his surgeon. Sometimes you can not actually get an accurate scan until the swelling goes down. From all reports it was not a full tear but it needed a repair. Until they had the complete picture they would not have known the injury time line. Then there is the fact that the AFL needs the exact medical evidence to be able to put a player on the LTI.Surely Martin re-did his knee well before the draft? He turned 18 six days ago.

A one year contract to develop in the VFL side is not going to hurt a side likely to finish in the bottom 8.
Or maybe he has to play VFL and show he is up to it.He turned 18 six days ago.

Thanks for the explanation. Seems like it may have just been really unfortunate timing then. He should have been out kicking footballs a week earlier! The club didn't set the time line. That pick would have been at the back end anyway - so just scraps.Surely Martin re-did his knee well before the draft? I don’t think there’s any mad rush to sign him. A few years playing VFL and if he’s showing sights of improvement then we could have another lookHe turned 18 six days ago.

Doesn’t work like that unless you want to delist Martin. LTIs all go back on the main list during the offseason and can be moved back to the LTI list only after the rookie draft.Surely Martin re-did his knee well before the draft? I mean, it's literally a couple of posts higherWould of been nice to have that rookie spot and take a flyer on Greeves at our pick
It’s the same reason we had a list squeeze with all the mid-season rookies having to go on the Cat A rookie list and be within the list size requirementsDid not know that!
You should have some more faith! We'll have another season-ending injury beforeWhile I don't actually think Setterfield is the best option I reckon it will be him.

Our list is so young…we need to bring in an experienced, match hardened player not another 18yo
Time to bring back Dylan Shiel (or Setters)
