Losing victory could kill Piastri’s confidence and it certainly makes his championship bid much harder. Had Piastri won with Norris 3rd, the gap between them would have been 12 points. That’s the difference between needing Norris to finish 4th vs 6th with a Piastri win next race.

For Norris he still needs to finish 3rd or higher to claim the championship, but importantly his closest contender is now not his teammate. That’s better for Norris, because team directions could shift things should Verstappen lead with Piastri P2 or P3 and Norris P4.

Correct which is why Oscar needs to be leading. But if hes behind Max and they ask him to move over for lando he should tell them to GAGF. Hopefully lando retires from the race by then.

Not if it's after the last stop.

If they need Oscar to do something so that Lando can win the championship, they should only ask if Oscar 100% isn't in a position to win it himself ie, they've both had a shit race and Max is leading.

However, when interviewed post race in pit lane, Andrea Stella said part of the decision making / strategy was that there might be another safety car. So, on that note, Oscar won't ever be out of contention unless he has retired from the race, because accordimg to Stella, praying for a safety car is a legitimate strategy.

MCL went conservative to ensure Lando was least impacted and it worked.
They hung OP out to dry on strategy and were too focused on saving Lando by doing the same strategy for both cars rather than thinking about getting OP the win and keeping Lando alive.

Op killed it all weekend and was gutted in car at the end - deservedly so - all the BS team ethos in the pre race meetings was undone by shit race management based on protecting Lando IMO.

Poor look and they - MCL - are rightly getting skewered for it.

And next week now is for all the beans. OP should just ****ing win what he can regardless of Lando's needs... The team stripped him of 6 points in Monza to protect Lando and they cost him 7 points here.

In light of day McLaren knew what they were doing. Double stack Lando and he could be stuck behind DRS train for 25 laps. Could’ve have finished 5th and Piastri only 9 points down. Which means if Piastri and Max go 1 & 2 next race Pisatri wins the championship. Totally screwed over

Lucky Norris didnt have the kahunas to follow Max in or the championship would be over now.

Mcl froze and made a non decision again for fear of favouring someone. In doing so cost piastri a win.

But for a long while there it looked like piastri was better off with norris in 5th.

Only ended up 1pt worse off. Id say norris would have gotten max in the end had they double stacked effectively.

I’d absolutely be petty enough to do this. Just drive him off the road and neither of them win. F*ck them all. He’s 16 points back and has easily been cost more than that from his team.

McLaren might be one of the weakest ‘successful’ sports teams I have seen.

I don’t hate Lando but I sure hope Oscar refuses to do anything to help his team mate next week. Fight for himself and if he can’t win let the team give Lando the best strategy and let the cards fall where they may.

Interesting that Zak Brown refuted Oscar’s claim about being asked to support Lando in this race… essentially calling him a liar. His constant utterances of racing “clean” to equally support both drivers is straight out gaslighting and has to piss off Oscar.
