Eventually you need to nail a couple of drafts in a row right? Caddy, Roberts, Kako, Clarke, Johnson, Robey, Farrow, Sharp, Kondogiannis.

This group taken over the last 3 years seem different to the guys old Essendon would take, they have some attitude and arrogance to them, they seem like very driven kids who want to work hard, let's see how we develop them.
i dont think it is just drafts, nailing draft picks needs to be nailing early draft picks to become star players and not just role players.

Im on record saying that if a club can nail one draft with 3 x 150 game players, that team invariably goes onto challenge deep into finals.

Our last two drafts have given us a very, very good chance at doing this

2025; Robey, Farrow, Sharp, Kondogiannis, El~achkar
2024; Kako, Gerryn, Clarke, Unwin, Johnson (Day~Wicks,
2023; Caddy, Lual, Roberts, (Visentini)

Time will show Richmond rsn their recruitment strategy gar better than essendon
it appears Essendon, via Brad Scott have acknowledged the top end talent simply isnt there. This would be year 4 for Brad but in reality, its year 2, maybe 3 for this attempted 'rebuild'

I think Scott is doing a good job of trying to get the game style that is competitive going - Essendon is on the right track but top end talent is required to go along wth more development in AFL game time. Patience.

We concur. Hence the 10 player delisting campaign before Xmas and the subsequent recruitment of the others..

Yeah the first 2 or 3 years for a rebuild coach don't count. They need time to turn the list over, and create the team they need to move forward.

My ladder predictor has Essendon getting the spoon. Bottom 4 with the bookies too. Good times.

There isn't a club with less relevance in our league.

  • No rivalries, as they play no matches of significance such as finals.
  • No commercial appeal, poor sponsors and no big name corporations knocking on the door.
  • Poor fans, frustrated, angry supporters who take it out on other hardworking fans on this board and at games.
  • No lucrative free agents coming in. And no, Todd Goldstein doesn't count Shane Heard.

Obviously there will never be relegation in our game, but Essendon continue to make an excellent case for why it should be included.

My comment was in reference to Scott being given some leeway with year 4 of his tenure. Seems some want him to be shooting up the ladder but in reality the acknowledgement of where the list truly is at sees the rebuild starting in year 3.

Would not surprise me if we won the spoon, the fwd group lacks depth in goals, our highest goal kickers each season for a while have been low. We need better quality along with more depth in this area.

not sure if trolling but I'll bite

5th in total attendances (only behind Collingwood, Carlton and Hawthorn whilst being utter trash says it all)
6th in total memberships (behind Carlton, Collingwood, WCE, Geelong, Hawthorn and surprisingly just behind Richmond)

Poor commercial, see above, think the actual $$ value you place is outdated as even when not winning we still seem to attract bums on seats and eyes on screens. Just write an Essendon article and watch nuffies bite is all you need to know

The fans are frustrated? what groundbreaking insight. Of course we're frustrated, we're reminded constantly how shit our football club has been for an extended period of time. We know. Well aware and not expecting it to change soon. We acknowledge its poor, its imbeciles who constantly invite trolling with poor takes that annoys most Essendon supporters.

As for free agents, we are in no place to be looking for top end free agents. Go to the well (draft) and continue to build through youth. For too long we have gone the free agency route and it has taken us no where.

IF you think Essendon are irrelevant, you are probably right. Although we are still lingering in the shadows, expect the masses to come out from the dark when this football club finally wakes up.

When it comes to a chip on the shoulder there's no beating some of the Saints fans on this forum.;)

As for the relegation idea again with a proud record of one flag and twenty six or seven wooden spoons again i present to you St Kilda.;)

Poor old St Kilda. The Jan Brady of the AFL

Unfortunately someone has to play the role of Jan Brady. None better or more suitable for the role when it comes to footy than the Aints. :laughv1:

You could’ve just gone with the first part of the last paragraph to be honest mate !

It’s a pity Carlton can’t play the tony soprano role anymore.
Well things aren't quite what they used to be for your club either!

At least Carlton had that little finals run in 2023. When you're desperate you'll grab any crumb that's fallen off the table.😄

On field yes Essendon (and Carlton) have been an irrelevance since the early 2000's. Off field though still very much relevant however. Big clubs do go through their barren periods in all sports.

How are they relevant off field ? Because the current administration has an obsession with giving them prime time games? And they aren’t even doing that this season
Lots of fans and members and history etc. The bums are still on the seats regardless of the on field performances being mediocre and substandard.
