SA 2026 SA Election (Coronation for Labor, Survival for the Liberals)

One Nation insider saying they're internally "very confident" in Cory and Carlos getting in the upper house - not so bullish on lower house seats.
Yeah I reckon that’s probably spot on, there are a few regional seats that ON will shake up and become the prominent second party, my seat of Hammond is one. I’ve also heard from a liberal party insider that the Libs are concerned about losing Ashton’s seat to ON.

An interesting thing I learnt today is that on the House of Assembly voting slip you can just write down your one preference and it is valid. I always thought you had to preference everyone on the slip. When they do the count if your preference is knocked out then your vote becomes exhausted as you haven’t preferences anyone else. It seems South Australia is the only state that allows this.

Went and voted early at my old stomping ground of Happy Valley sports park where i dominated for the Vikingsin the early 90's *

* AUTHOR'S NOTE - Played 3 games, did fk all

Twice i've voted for the grinz bloke now
Accidentally slipped and put that weirdo bernardi last too

He'll win though and then sit there all day on the dime thinking about people rooting dogs

I think that for the House of Assembly you had to number all.

In the legislative Assembly you have a choice of voting above the line or below the line.

Yeah, optional preferential only is a thing in New South Wales, to my understanding, although Bernardi and One Nation have said they want to see it in SA (I actually think it's the best option but I don't want to give ground to anything One Nation say).

I've been reading up about HAhndorf and the options to reduce traffic and there are some good options that will probably be shelved.

Do what Zermatt in Switzerland do and have times where the street is closed to through traffic and have a park and ride, get cars off the main street, no parking and have more bike lanes and walking space. I went there last weekend and we parked a km away and walked in. The street is far too congested.

Total outsider here, obviously, but I stayed there for a little bit last year and really loved the town but, yeah, honestly, sometimes it was just impossible to cross the road. I found the bus in to Adelaide pretty good, to be honest, but clearly people aren't opting for it.

Incorrect, if you read the act or get ChatGPT to do it , you can preference just the one party in the house of assembly, however that party would have needed to lodge a ticket to accept that type of vote. If the party you preference is knocked out that vote is then deemed exhausted as it can’t flow anywhere else.

This appears to be what one nation is doing, that way they still get the votes if someone just writes 1 which would otherwise be an informal vote if the correct paperwork hasn’t been filled out.

From ChatGPT

Debate on amendments to the Act explains the key rule:

An elector must indicate their first preference by placing the number 1 next to a candidate’s name. They may then indicate preferences for all or some of the other candidates, but need not do so.

This means legally:

A ballot with just “1” for one candidate still records a valid first preference.
  • Numbering 2, 3, 4 etc. is optional under that provision.
What happens during counting

If a voter marks only “1”:

The vote is counted as a formal first preference.
  • If that candidate is eliminated, the vote may either exhaust or be interpreted under the Act’s “vote-saving” provisions depending on how the ballot is filled out.
Important nuance in SA

In practice, the ballot instructions usually say “number every square”, but the Act contains saving provisions allowing some ballots that don’t number every box to still be counted rather than declared informal.

Page 6 on this link also references the one preference and the need to have a special form filled out. Bloody sneaky tactics. https://www.ecsa.sa.gov.au/images/C...es/Guides/SE2026/RO 16 Candidate Guide HA.pdf

The Vikings...

I always knew there was something wrong with you.

Up the mighty Falcons.

Funnily enough, my old boy played for Flaggy in the 80's

Latest poll has ON at 39% in rural/regional seats on first party preference. This is a very scary thought for my seat if true.

This tells me that Pederick is in big trouble

Along with the state wide demolition of the Liberals here

Pederick is gone imo but it’s a scary thought that we may have a one nation representative.

Complaints about preferential voting will get louder after this election.
Especially because One nation haven’t revealed who they are actually preferencing.

Sportsbet are doing odds on some of the seats , my seat of Hammond is one of them. This seat has not had a Labor representative for 56 years

I presume either they don’t care, or don’t see a point since he is listed on the ballot 🤷‍♂️
Suprised their vetting didn’t pick up a uk warrant. I wonder if this is why he changed his name 🤔
