Farcical/Joke same thing top 4 out of ten and not playing every side twice...you will still get a better 4 than the way they got it now

I think they'll stick with conferences next year, but an option could be for conference finals followed by the Grand Final

2 x 7 team conferences
Top 4 of each team plays finals
2 weeks of intra-conference finals to find the conference champ

Grand Final comprised of the 2 Conference Champions

Would have the conferences like this too:

Conference A: Adelaide, North Melbourne, Carlton, GWS, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Richmond.
Conference B: Fremantle, Melbourne, Geelong, Bulldogs, Collingwood, West Coast, St.Kilda.

The reluctance of those in charge to extend the season is what's caused these issues - experts outside of the league, and vastly experienced players all said no conferences, extend to a 9-game season and have a top 4 of the whole league

Maybe those making the decisions for next season will actually listen to those who know what they are talking about, and not wait until the last minute for things such as season fixtures

Only change to those suggestions are swap Adelaide into the Conference B, and that's based on a travel idea for the players.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's still only a 6 game season where teams play those in their conference once each, and no cross conference games until finals or grand final as per my suggestion.

For that reason I'd think having Adelaide in the same conference as the two WA teams might be a bit easier on travel for the players - so basically it's Vic, SA & WA

Other conference then has Vic, NSW & QLD teams. Also means 3 non-Vic teams in each conference, plus if North plays a game down in Tassie that's another interstate trip for a team.

I believe they will stick with conferences, but they have to be fair based on skill and travel should also be considered

Oh, I did laugh Cats09.
As long as the head of the AFLW is flying economy, we know how little the AFL is genuine in their investments & growth of the game

Whatever decisions save them money is the decision they'll make

Problem is do you then risk the lopsided grand final if a conference ends up stacked?

Using the conference's for fixtures is a necessary evil at this stage, but I'd rather just pair that with a normal ladder, accepting that it isn't fair. Maybe offer a wildcard spot to the conference leader in favour of fourth if they wouldn't otherwise qualify.

I like Paul Hood's response to our girls finding themselves playing a final next week:

“It’s about us doing as well as we can over the course of the season to qualify. It’s not something I’m really concerned about,” Hood said.

“We just have to do the job that we’ve been asked to do to make the finals and that’s that. As far as the big picture stuff, that’s best left to the AFL.”“We’ve got a young developing group, and we’ve never made any secret about that. It’s another opportunity for us to play a game of footy. For the development of that group of the big stage it’ll be terrific.

Obviously [Adelaide are] a team in great form, they’ve got a great forward line, a great midfield and defence. We’re going to work really hard on trying to break them down. Significantly for us, when we played against Adelaide in round three, although they beat us by 29 points we felt like we were in the game for large parts of the game and just needed to tidy up a few things. If you look at what Adelaide have done since, I think we’ve been the closest team to them.
“Upsets are happening all the time. Why can’t another one happen this weekend? We’ll go out there and do everything we can to make the contest work in our favour.”

Plenty being made about our 3-4 record and struggles with scoring, but no one has mentioned that we still have the comp's 2nd best defensive record.

I'm with Hood; for mine we take the opportunity to learn from 1 more game in season 2019; might get ugly, but at least we'll be under no illusions as to what will be required to improve in 2020.

Now, who do we nominate to run in off the square at the first bounce to clean up Phillips?? I'd be tapping Darby on the shoulder

Are they going to be able to have a season that long?
Will the networks want to cover it?
Will the league agree to having select games televised?

will be tough

The hard part is judging what strength they will be after players move..1 year contracts make it difficult..

but that looks not bad. Freo and WC have a h2h. Maybe swap GWS and Stkilda so there are 4 vic teams in each..

will be tough

Definitely, and we're likely looking at a sobering loss.

But no point going in with a defeatist attitude; all the pressure is on the Crows, we've got nothing to lose, all of that - they've been inaccurate at times, too, and at least we've already played them once over there and we have some idea of what to expect.

I suspect we just don't have the cattle nor the legs, but I would love the girls to put in one of their better 4 quarter efforts for the year and end the season on a positive (if not winning) note.

It’s a shorter season. 6 games.
You play everyone once in your conference and than finals within that conference.
You can get the extra week with an extra week of finals.
It makes perfect sense, works how a conference is meant to, unlike this year. If the players aren’t happy, they have to suck it up. Anything else is making a mockery of their season as the AFL won’t do longer seasons for them.

Absolutely embarrassing from the AFLW. We go 3-4 and have the lowest percentage but because of a stupid conference system play finals whilst 5-2 North Melbourne do not. Won two more games and only lost to arguably the two best teams.

Farcical nonsense.

Are they going to be able to have a season that long?
Leavng aside issues of financing, what is the problem in having a longer season? It could start in November for example.
Will the networks want to cover it?
In general or a longer season? - doubt the length of the season will make any difference, especially to fox footy
Will the league agree to having select games televised?
Its not so long ago that not every men's match was't televised. At this stage of the development of the AFLW, its not the biggest issue.

Good to see that this debacle is raising hackles, means people care. Not sure of the financing, but given the amount of money the AFL is spending on propping up GC (where's their team in the AFLW?), which I'm guessing is considerably more than spent on the AFLW. When you look at the return on those investments (interest from girls is the AFL's biggest growth area), then it seems to me to be good value to invest on extending the season

I think I heard on the w/end it 850,000 a round. I guess id ask what are the afl prepared to spend on the comp . 14 teams. 13 games H&A is 11M plus finals . I dont know what they are prepare to spend but I suspect all the formatting is done with dollars in mind.

How many ovals are available in Nov. Cricket and other stuff.

how many weeks of finals I wonder.

Top 3 in each conference perhaps .. 2 and 3 play ....then against 1 then the GF? Or do we have finals 4

annus horribilis for the afl ... its not even close or any doubt that the 3 and 4 sides are better than Car and Gee.
I will say I think its hard to really be sure which sides will be strong each year with only 1 year contracts and so much player movement but it was forecast a long way out that North would be strong and Gee were building thru youth

Then randomise the draw and have no conferences if that’s the case.
What’s transpired is a farce

It won't happen, but AFLW should just play alongside the men's comp.
There are enough tv channels these days to cater, and they don't have to televise every game.
In its current form, it's just a sideshow circus.

Its a barren hard ground atm.. one just has to let it grow with some sunshine and a bit of water ..and a lot of care.

Against the men .. its going to look second rate ..and will quickly lose interest. Im not sure whether long term that they can do that ... like the VFL and the u18's they will always come up as a lower comp... and there is a lot more comp for eyes. Add to that 850,000 dollars a week to run it ..probably more next year with more teams. Really , the girls do that when they play VFL and how much attention do they get.

I think they may have to be a more creative... and I know the girls want to play almost an identical game and format but Im not sure its in their best interest. Perhaps they can look at trying different formats shorter games and double headers or something? Im not sure but ..long term they will want to play everyone once... thats 13 games before finals ... I cant see how that gets done.

Maybe Boyd, because that way she could be involved in the game
