Yeah those three stand out.

I think Melbourne's probably the most forgiveable of the three as they weren't belted and had a fair few guys look underdone. Still not a good look though.

Hard to look past North though. One thing to be beaten by 14 goals, quite another for it to happen to a side that finished 14th last year.....

When Fremantle put 23 goals past your defence you have had a rough, rough day. North looked slow, disorganised, sloppy and bereft of competitive spirit. Round 1 has thrown up a few mystifying performances but North’s “ effort” was nothing short of pitiful.

I'm actually thinking Melbourne. Their list is good enough to win the flag, and they showed spine late last year. The really were beaten by a more aggressive Port Adelaide with 3 drafted debutants. That's got to be troubllng.

The hot sticky conditions contributed to the marginat Giants Stadium I think. The Bombers did more defending early and tired in the conditions.

I'm no expert on Norths list but I believe their backline is pretty disrupted? Also I caught most if the game after getting home and it seemed Freo were really awesome.

Could throw in Adelaide too even though they weren't as bad as the others relatively speaking. Smashed at home by an undermanned, young Hawks side. Their forward line looked absolutely awful. Essendon having 3 goals midway through the last is hilariously bad.

As a fan you look for positives. My team stank but I know we can play a lot better, I know we have 3 forwards and two important midfield players to come in during the year and our 2-3 game forwards getting an opportunity showed a few good signs.

What do you take out of Essendon and North's efforts?

During the JLT I was nice enough to point out that North have a problem with the defensive side of their set up. All I got from their supporters was abuse.

Leaking 141 points to Freo of all sides surely must give their supporters pause.

From what I saw of Adelaide they weren't uncompetitive buy their skills were atrocious. Turnover central. Lucky not to be punished in the 3rd quarter but did have some winners over the day.

Essendon. North were shit but Freo were on and played good Footy. Not to discredit GWS as they were immense. But the Dons put up a more pathetic effort than Pittman in the ruck. And they're going to have to live with that.

West Coast
Adelaide
Melbourne

Spineless bastards.

I wouldn't call the Swans winners either as so many Swans fans were hoping like hell that Longmire would update the gameplan for 2019, but instead what we got was the same game plan that failed us in 2018, the one causes our midfield to get crushed in clearances and inside 50's week after week.

Essendon had a chance to get a game up on a weakened rival for a top 6 spot and couldn't be bothered (well done GWS scary to think Ward & Kelly to come back)
North had a chance for an easy away win against a weakened 12-16 team and were never in the hunt (well done Freo)
Adelaide - all the talk about getting back to the finals and lost to a weakened team at home.

Won't be winning the flag this year when the game trends towards more running and we've got a very slow list.
