I learned what I think the club learned from last season.
With Caddy coming back, we will time our run better this time.
Won't surprised me if we turn at the halfway mark 7-4 or even 6-5.
I trust our group.
What a time to be a Tiger.

Interesting piece on that by kingy suggested that Tigers were starting a winger on defensive side , was then bolting backwards and rotating with a teammate , bloos couldn’t work out what was going on , and no runner to help with the answer , suggests to me that some brilliant coaching moves or even player lead could really bamboozle young sides

Spot on. Just takes us a few more seconds to play with the 7th defender

Learnt that despite the rules changes it was the lowest scoring opening round in 60+ years.

The standard of footy was absolutely dog shit. Hope it improves.
If not change the fecking Rules! Right Gil!!!

We really need Prestia to fire to match it with the stronger midfield units. Hasn't set the world on fire since the GF and we need that other top-line midfielder you can rely on to find 30 odd quality touches.
He's had a big preseason and needs to turn it into some strong form.

Need to win more clearances and get first hand on the footy in center bounces help us a lot if we can do this.

1) we move the ball faster and more direct than any other team (and I watched every game on the weekend). And we are REALLY quick.
2) Carlton are now a mid table team and will win almost as many as they lose unfortunately.
yep, i noticed that on friday night, the blooz were quicker than the flogpies and the cats.
gws looked good but still not as quick as us

Looking like the runner restrictions are going to have the biggest effect of the new rules by a mile.
Players are blowing up (can't get off the ground for orderly rotations) and coaches can't quickly counter unforeseen tactical ploys being used by other side.
Would not be surprised if the rule is scrapped or heavily modified by mid season.
I reckon they should just make it that runners are included in the interchange cap.

The spectators sitting behind the bench can't see as much of the match because of the boards being held up.

They should be compensated.

I’m looking at where our weaknesses were in the game against a younger opponent.
Backline semi tall to tall players still get caught out with a quick ball into the FL.
The young Carlton talls made us look slow. We need to be careful with the
6-6-6 rule as we got exposed a few times when our midfield got beaten.
On the midfield, we can’t seem to get them to all click at once. They mostly worked independently all night and if it wasn’t for Cotchin and cameos from Higgins and Dusty we really would have struggled.
Lynch was unfit and really if the balll hadn’t popped into his three metre zone
or a turn over by Carlton defenders he would have struggled to get a kick. He didn’t work hard enough and the ball was taking away from the FL easily. It won’t be easier against the Pies this week as they’re a more seasoned side and run harder for four quarters. He also needs to show a bit more aggression as he often resembled a Pelican on a Port Macquarie pier waiting for a cheap feed. He dropped a few sitters which tells us he’s lacking game time. IMO I would run him in the twos and play an agile Moore who will trouble the Pies with his agility. I fear playing an unfit Lynch makes our FL look slow and inoperable.
Jack Graham and Higgins were super. Rioli and Butler disappointed , but look like they’re ready to explode any minute. They’re both dangerous and skilled match winners.
We need to go up a long way from what I witnessed as a more experienced team would have toyed with us on the night. At one stage I thought I was watching the PF last year with all the same issues still there.
Also welcome back Bachar Houli as he played a blinder sweeping from the HBL. Plenty of work still to do.

Yeah, you could see Lambert start at CHB and run in from the back of the square while the defensive winger started at the corner of the square and just rolled into the backline. Gave us an extra running at speed towards the centre bounce.
