so Tom mitchell is too small aswell yeah?

and Rory Sloan,

and luke parker

and taylor adams

because they are all within a CM or the same height as darcy.

enough with the broken narrative

You're comparing Parish to guys that have been bulls from day 1. Luke Parker is as wide as he is tall and Adams is another animal.

Parish is a 4th year player and has the same physical presence he had as a 1st year player.

Granted Parish could develop but you're point is a false equivalence.

The thing about Parish is that he is the player he has always been. Go back and read the reviews of his draft years. They all dance around his inside game, in the way that draft profiles do about players' weaknesses. He was a good all round mid. He's now a solidish all round mid who is probably going to have to break himself on the running track to be as effective as he can be at AFL level.

The bigger piture is that there is no point basing hope on Parish joining the rest of the mosquito fleet as part of the midfield. Essendon doens't do balanced midfields. Our inside midfield work hits deminishing returns by about midfielder 3. The clearance numbers flatter because ruck contests are stalemates, the ball will bounce wickedly which means that literally 50% of the time the ball will be in space where we are effective. To think we could somehow have broke even with GWS in a clearance battle, which every assume to be some sort of contested scrap for the ball, boggles the mind. They crushed us the moment there was body on body.

so you named one of the players i Named in response to me?

all I said was that parish is big enough to be a good inside midfielder and that the narrative that he is too small is false, I provided evidence and your rebutal was pathetic becuase luke parker is not that much wider than parish.I dont care what else you have to say becuase its got nothing to do with my comment.
pathetic.

and fyi, sloan wasnt considered to eveAttach filesn be AFL standard until his 4th year, so again your rebutal is pathetic. you have an agenda and you mix it with your arguements. joke.

Yeah, okay, fine. Laverde is 190cm he will be Fyfe.

And what exactly is an "agenda" in the context of a discussion about football?

He’s never going to be a clearance machine like Mitchell, even though they’re the same size. He also doesn’t have the physical size to be a Cripps / Oliver, or the size and speed to do what Dangerfield does.

Sloane and Smith are probably two reasonable role-models, Hannebury too. He needs to be able to run longer and harder than most of those big guys, both offensively and defensively. He also needs to do more damage with his disposals.

My big criticism from his JLT was that his actual metres gained was nonexistent, which from anyone other than a full-time inside midfielder is pretty poor.

He has a lot of positives, and his draft profile actually notes him as being a good user of the ball by foot. That’s the Parish we need to see more of.

Defensive work, metres gained and the ability to have scoreboard impact. He’s perfectly capable of doing all of those at a high level.

Almost certain to request a trade at the end of the year.

What will we get for him? A second rounder?

A reputable source has told me that he wants out. Will go to Geelong, Collingwood or St Kilda

Okay that is disappointing, any idea as to his issues? I could see him going to the Pies as that was his childhood team and I think Eddie wanted him.

Not really sure of any issues. Just read that other clubs were swooping on him in the Hearld Sun.

lol?

Is it really that hard to imagine other clubs being interested?

So if push comes to shove and Parish is somewhere around a Zaharakis/Stanton quality player, and in my estimation he's behind, particularly of Zahararkis, at the equivalent point of his career the question becomes what do you take for him and how much of a risk will you wear?

A top 20 pick is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: that means picks 19/20 if that's what's on offer.

The Parish thing comes from his manager. Ralph calls. Managers says a few clubs interested, no deal done yet with Essendon. Not picked in round 1 so story seems bigger. Last year it was Angus Brayshaw in the same boat early in the season. Not contracted and not in the side in the first few weeks.

Would not surprise me at all. Managers using the media to fish for commissions. Reckon a lot of players would have a love/hate relationship with their managers.

Yes but Angus Brayshaw is good.

The question for this board and for EFC is whether Parish will be any better than Zaharakis who everyone seems to accept sucks.

Parish is clearly not as good as Zahaka.

There is no point proving that to the rest of the league in the next 2 years.

True. He has to prove he can go to another level than what he has done so far.
