What does over mean? Wont win the flag? A final? Wont make top 4? Top 8? Wooden spooners?

It's over. It's over. Let's go home ladies and gentlemen, let's go home! /Vince Carter dunk comp.

I think what it means is that you have no more games to play. 1-1 is your final standing for the season and you have an extra 6 months off to prepare for 2020.

Excellent. Will allow us to get a jump on the new 6-5-5 rules coming in next year.

Based on exposed form so far:
Collingwood
West Coast
Richmond
Melbourne

I have a feeling Melbourne could still jump over Richmond. That Rance injury is going to hurt, and with Riewoldt out for a month they could drop some games they would have otherwise won. Melbourne need to actually rebound from this God-awful start though

Well Gary Lyon has given the star new recruit May a good slap around the head.

When asked how the defender turned up to pre-season, Lyon replied: “By his own admission, not in the best shape.

“He said he was adjusting to the training standards of the Melbourne Football Club and then proceeded to run last in the time trial.

“He now has a hamstring injury followed up by a groin injury. If he doesn’t turn up for the first training session of the pre-season of 2020 in absolutely ripping-cut nick, then Melbourne supporters will have every right to be disappointed in him and his professionalism.

“He’s come in underdone, hasn’t got the work in, he’s done a hamstring and now he’s done a groin. It’s soft tissue on the back of soft tissue.

“He needs to come in next year with his skinfolds looking as sharp as they’ve ever been, his running times as good as they’ve ever been so he can say that he won’t ever be surprised about the training standards of an AFL club ever again.”

I think Melbourne supporters would be pretty p!ssed off now never mind next preseason.
To be fair on May, soft tissue injuries aren't entirely his fault. The Melbourne conditioning and medical staff are meant to tailor programs for individual fitness levels aren't they? It probably isn't the staff's fault entirely either, but you can't blame May for getting injured.

If it was recognised he was underdone by the club, and he couldn't handle the training load, and no one adjusted it to cater for that, then that's an equally big stuff up from the Melbourne footy club.

Come on Gary.

Nate Jones having some interruptions has hurt them too - heart and soul type players are more valuable than their stats sheet suggests.

Jones is captain and past 30.

May has turned up to a new club and come last in preseason time trials. Then gets suspended. ....then breaks down.

Not a great start especially after all the fan expectations to lift them another gear.

Time to make amends but is terrible start

Well May hasn't ruptured an ACL like Lever so he could still come back and contribute in his first season.

Garry Lyon is a D/H (nice auto correct) but if this is true its pretty damning on May. You would think going to a new club you would want to make the best first impression.

Pies will finish clear on top of the ladder. Buckley will again stretch the list and expose talent
West Coast clear second, good but not pies good.
Tiges somewhere in bottom half of the 8 injuries will take toll
Dees between 8-12 average list and hard draw

finishing on top is good and all, but all about preparation for a run for the flag.... so if they have to rest players and concede home and away lead so be it.... flag or nothing approach IMO

Stretching the list means exactly that. It will be all list team effort to get to the top. I think that the list and the club in general is good enough to stay on top whilst looking towards the top prize. The good thing is that the list stays fresh, and developing for sustained year in year out success. Now me saying it is one thing, and will sound cocky, but I'm pretty sure this logic will be on the whiteboards at the Holden centre. Anyway WGAF this year footys going to fun, the pies will hand out some almighty whippings, even to teams that supposedly are contenders.

Need I remind everyone of how these teams stood after R2 last year
Richmond - 1-1
West Coast - 1-1
Melbourne - 1-1
Collingwood - 0-2

It is massively premature to be completely writing off anyone.
If we want to write off teams based on a poor performance, we should just play the GF this week between Geelong and Collingwood because neither of those sides have had a genuinely poor performance.

Hang on here, I might just be right. only talking about 4 teams clearly the pies have the Tigers measure and Dees, leaves only West coast. On current form and the order of things what evidence suggest that the tigers are ahead of the pies or even close. 2017 was a while ago, the tigers flame burned bright and fast and now is dimming away, it happens, It important that you know this.

So after losing an unearned home grand final you've declared yourself the front runner because you've won 1 game?

You might have gone a bit too early with coining the term 'pies good' for season 2019.

Settle down, it's round 2 and we've both lost a game.

The question was asked, and i gave an opinion. No reason to settle. Free given to Maynard when it should of been, and you wouldnt feel the need to respond to my opinion. Pretty arrogant to suggest the pies didnt earn a GF birth, thats just rubbish. Whats wrong with been gracious winners.
