Also I thought Cripps was one of our better players Saturday. Covered the ground quite well and didn't lose to many contests. Other than a couple of shit kicks to Ryan (which everyone else did) he was quite decent.
Sure, Cripps cops a lot of flack here, certainly not our worst, applies a lot of pressure, kicks 1-2 a game. Owies on the other hand is like Cripps Lite and needs to move on.

Resigning Kelly is what we should have done.
Unfortunately, we re-signed him!
Maybe the club has the same problem distinguishing between the two words which would could explain why we have to put up with this non-performer for another 2 years.
We won't ever know as player salaries are not published, but if we have re-signed Kelly on minimal coin whilst letting him know he is not a best 22 player i'm ok with that. Had Graham not been an idiot and Hewitt not needing a rest I'm not sure he is getting a game. Yes we all want to see Gross play, but I think the match committee made a decision of having a senior player come into the side in what they believed was a winable game.
If Kelly is being paid minimal coin and plays mostly WAFL next year I'm comfortable given how he might be able to help the WAFL side.

Putting aside the expectations and disappointment, with the benefit of hindsight it might've been a trainwreck waiting to happen. Losing Graham and Hewett, coming off a 6 day break. Am more interested to see what happens next (with no Graham - back in for our last 2 games). Without expecting wins, can we at least resemble an AFL team in structure and composure against a handful of upper ladder teams ahead.

And there is the problem with the club not addressing the obvious problem of midfield depth over the last 3 years via trading. Then there is the Ruck depth

Reid, Hough (only a recent addition who trained as a defender pre season) Hall (expected to develop in the beagles this year) were the three main midfielders after Kelly was sadly a non event.

...but you have to ask yourself why do you bring in a senior player? If it's work-rate, endurance, stability under pressure and leadership you have a good point. TK is bringing none of that to the table this year though.

There are still a lot of people at the club who either can't see the reality or refuse to see the reality of what most of our senior players are delivering. A lot of decision making being made by rote in what I can only imagine is from a sense of self-preservation.

While I don't disagree with your assessment, the reality is that a 6-day break in AFL is hardly exceptional. Nor is losing two players. Yep, we were also without Allan and Waterman, fair enough. I suppose you could argue we are missing Yeo too... but I'd actually be surprised if he plays again.

It might be unfair... but some of the younger players need to realise there is no cavalry coming. They're it. The senior players just aren't going to step up. It's up to the next generation to stamp their authority on the game. Pretty sure Harley gets it... Ginbey too. Not sure about the others though. They just aren't hard enough or desperate enough. And some of the decision making has been timid and/or lazy.

And the coaches need to back it up. Getting spanked by the 17th placed team, at home, should be "line in the sand" stuff. I'm ok with McQualter spewing out the platitudes publicly... but behind closed doors I hope he's seething. It's time to drop the "nice guy" routine and start kicking some arses.

Positive: turned the TV off at 3QT and haven't looked back.

I've watched every shit WC game I have been able to for as long as I can remember. Tuned in to watch us lose to Carlton by one point shy of 20 goals in 2001. Stayed until the end in the 3 tier stand when Bomber Thompson ate a sandwich while Geelong rolled us by 135 in 2008. Down by 100 at half time vs the Cats last year, still watched. Never been someone who leaves early or doesn't watch games when we are down the bottom etc. I was a kid in the 90s so seeing the 00s side build from the bottom to being a premiership side 5-6 years later with players around my own age was fun, even though there were plenty of "learnings" along the way.

Derby this week and I find myself not really invested at all. Maybe we pull off the upset of the season and win, maybe we try hard and fall short, maybe we lose by 150. Que sera sera. It's a weird feeling, but I don't really care how we respond or if we respond at all. We're 1-17 and just let the (then) 17th placed side (minus their bookmarks Tom Lynch and Noah Balta) have a training run on our home deck.

This is incredibly precious.

You citing the odd bad loss under woosh or two year period under Ken judge as a sign of how dedicated you are is tripe.

There are teams like Melbourne, Carlton, or even Richmond themselves who have been crap for far longer than us.

Yes, we are an incredibly poor team at the moment, but it’s just is what it is.

Click the little sliders to the right and it’ll let you pick which stats you want, CBAs might not be in by default.
No big deal but that is not the view I get with Mac or iPhone.

Have drop down menus for Teams (both, WCE, Rich) and Stats (Basic, Advanced, MyStats) i.e. no sliders; and it is not under Live Match Stats ... see my view below

But that is at the AFL website. Are you using the AFL app?

As I say no big deal. But cheers.

No, it's reality. If you want to sit down for 3 hours another 5 times this year knock yourself out. I lost interest after the 10th time multiple Richmond players ran the ball inside 50 under no pressure. We're shit, this isn't news. But there is no reason to concede 7.4 in a quarter to a team of Richmond's calibre the way we did.

We lost by 10 goals or more 16 times under Judge. Then 13 times just from 2008 to 2010. The odd bad loss. :thumbsu:

We're about to conclude a fourth straight season of 5 wins or under and a percentage under 70. So we're the 2001 or 2008 Eagles, B2B2B2B.

We are an incredibly poor team at the moment, but we're also an incredibly poor club at the moment and that's the real issue. McQualter has a mountain of work to do with one arm tied behind his back.

Karl Langdon is old man yells at cloud bringing up what Mick Malthouse used to do in the 90s RE: training, but he's still got a point about our skill level being poor and the level of effort on Saturday being unacceptable.

WC segment starts about 21 min. Easy to pot Tim Kelly these days but look who is standing 5 metres away from him at half back, and look who sprints to pressure the ball carrier inside Richmond's forward 50 even though it's effectively a 4 on 2 at that point. It's Tom McCarthy. A guy who as well as already being one of our best ball users has played 5 games and has 0 AFL pre-seasons under his belt. I love that he looks like a 100 gamer but that is an indictment on the club.

The club used to be ruthless and arrogant. You can argue Tim Kelly should be on the list next year and you can argue he shouldn't. But there is zero justification for re-signing him for two years in May. But these are the standards the club continues to set. Who at the club is going to acknowledge the elephant in the room that the majority of our "senior" players are under 23?

This is accepting mediocrity believing its a weird sign of strength of some sort

I think what we’ve gone through for four years is nothing compared to what other fanbases have gone through over the last 20-30 years.

Richmond was essentially irrelevant for 35 years.
Carlton won 5 wooden spoons in 15 years. Essendon hasn’t won a final in 20+ years.

This whole woe is me, I’m an eagles supporter, I don’t know how much longer I can take this vibe coming from quite a few in our fan base is well over the top.

North have been just as bad as us, for longer, and didn’t have the success we had before being crap.

I think some need a bit of perspective. It’s fine to be angry or mad, or sad. But talking about throwing in the towel is a perspective I have a hard time accepting.

You think Richmond/Carlton/Essendon didnt have members drop off in their down times? Richmond went from 30,000 members in their poorer times (2007) to 100,000 by 2019. Carlton went from 47,000 to 67,000 3 years later after their form improved post wooden spoon 2015.

On the other hand last year was our most members ever. All up we are too loyal for our own good really. The team doesnt have any incentive to get better

Sure. I think the woe is us is just not my thing, and makes us look like a very soft supporter base.

I think clapping like seals as Tim Kelly walks around in the midfield makes us look like a very soft supporter base myself

Those teams were debacles because of poor decision making. This is now what is occurring to us. If the fans put up with trade periods like last year, or long term extensions to players on their last legs, then buckle up, because it's going to be a long rebuild.

Don't just continually snipe from the sidelines. If you're so frequently so pissed off then go support another team.

Oh, and logic says you also leave the BB - bye bye.

AND don't come back when we're successful.

If only for the sake of all of us who follow one of the most successful AFL clubs - through thick and thin.

Otherwise just go into the AFL app, select the game, players, advanced stats.
Top 4 mids for CBA
20yo
21yo
22yo
21yo.

That ridiculous but will be good for development. 2 mature bodies in there (24yo+)would help a lot , especially if your adding a rookie in the mix too

I get to cancel kayo in 5 weeks time and reserect it in April.

I have no interest in watching any other team in the finals. Thank you VFL for ruining the game.

Thank you WCE for saving me $40 in September.
I am booking myself an overseas holiday for September - I too am not interested in watching other teams have success - am full of bah humbug!
