Autopsy Round 24, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Sydney

Lots of positives come out of this year.
Improved game plan - you all easily forget the stop and start game plan we did have in the previous few years, so boring to watch but never got changed. Love the times they got speed on the ball may have coughed it up but it looks so much better.
Young players - So many young players showed potential
No 100 point losses although we got close against the doggies.
We all knew it was going to be a hard year & a lot of punters predicted 0-1 game wins for the year.
We could have won a few close games but it showed the young guys need another preseason or 2 to increase there tank.
Ruck - Dont give up an Barnett yet, up against men he looked aweful, but he "could" end up a very good AFL ruckman
Anyway i predict 4 - 5 wins at best for 2026 & keen to see our game plan flourish.

Negative - did some sections of the crowd really boo Oscar when he spoke post game? Seemed to be that suggestion on Duffield’s show on SEN this morning.

I took off before the post match presentations as I had my two young sons with me and it was a late enough finish as it was.

Poor if so. Decision is best for both parties. Don’t think he deserved to be booed and hoping it was only a minority.

I didn't hear it. If it happened, it was probably one guy joking around who was 5 seats away from Duff.

The stands were pretty empty by then and it was hard to even hear him on the Mic as I was near the Sydney cheer squad who were interacting with their players.

Yeah, I was at the game and there were some booing him. Not very loud but I think Oscar would've noticed.

Unless he transitions to aflw barnett will still need to ruck against men…

I think he will end up as a depth mid and a bit of a WAFL toiler but will be able to come in and play a role if needed

Unfortunately I don’t think he tries hard enough and that’s his main problem.

He’s only in his second year so things can obviously change, but if he played with 100% intensity all the time, like all of the best inside mids do, his other shortcomings wouldn’t be so much of an issue. Footspeed isn’t that important for inside mids if they are constantly moving and pressuring.

Issue is most of our team are single effort players. If a ruck contest doesn’t go our way or the opposition wins a contested ball, that’s it. A bit of a jog, wait for the next stoppage.

Look, I'm not saying Dark Sharks had been waiting the 3 weeks since Chesser came back for any reason to take a dump on him, but Dark Sharks has been waiting the 3 weeks since Chesser came back for any reason to take a dump on him. If only our players were as consistent as DS.

Fact is when rating our players right now you can have 3 criteria:

A) Who was good when we were in the match
B) Who was not a total liability when we were out of the match
C) Who was good the whole game

Chesser was in category A last night. No one (maybe Graham) was in category C last night unfortunately, that tends to make the ones that sit in A and not B (like Hall) stand out.

This board has always been a majority misery loves company convention where posters can come and join hands and complain about our club workings and get a chub. Chesser may not be what we dreamed of but his past month has been a huge improvement on what we've seen before and deserves to be listed in the positives from last night.

I find it's that he ball watches and has a slow reaction to what's going on. If the ball hasn't gone straight to him he's too slow to react and make an impact. He's like Priddis but without the ability to read the stoppage.

Still early days though. Give him another year or so.
