I've convinced myself now that 2x firsts is insane. There's just never been a trade like it for a 30 year old, contracted or otherwise. And now that he literally can't return to the club what's their bargaining power?

I don't want to pay that and think we shouldn't have to. But i can somewhat live with it if it is essentially a swap of our future first for the Bombers future second which should essentially be a few spots.

So a first and a few picks slide for Merrett.

Unfortunately, most of our own supporters continue to treat them "like it's still the 1980s" too instead of treating them as "the irrelevant nonentity they actually are."

Heck, even St Kilda are more relevant than Essendon are and it might not be long before North are as well!

They still are the only club with a winning grand final record against us. And it’s not going to change in a hurry

I can't find any examples of 30+ year old midfidelders changing clubs for multiple first round picks. Contracted or otherwise.

We all said Barass was our first rounder. Great player. Not too many years left. Very important role. Injury concerns.
Eagles ****ed aroudn and found out that it was the correct price. And then they stuffed up the death ride. hahaha.

One thing West Coast weren't doing is besmirching Barrass publicly and hanging him out to try. Essendon are so unprofessional. Terrible club.

They did hang Oscar Allen out to dry though. Then when they find out they are getting pick 2, they can’t help pack his bags fast enough.

Funnily enough Mitchell meeting with Oscar probably allowed our club to grow the nuts required to facilitate his move to Brisbane which is really best for all parties.

Both Hawthorn and Essendon would benefit from Merrett being traded. If I was MM I’d get on the front foot now with the best offer and it’s as good as done. Essendon won’t reduce his value, they’ll need to sell a trade win to their members or they’ll hold Merrett to contract and strip him of the captaincy and parade him round with some chick ringing a bell yelling “shame”.

Not sure he's really done anything? He hasn't said anything publicly, yet.

Removing Essendon from parts of his Instagram profile was done after he has told the club that he wants to leave. The club can't pretend this is some bombshell, maybe some players can, but Scott and the Board would known where Zerrett's head was at.

I think the only side that has anything to gain out of leaking the story is Essendon, as:

• it creates a minor distraction for us in the lead up to a do-or-die final
• it creates public pressure on Zerrett
• helps direct the anger of the yokels away from the club, and the real reasons why it ever got to the point to begin with
• similar to the above point, it helps paint Zerrett and the Hawks as the bad guys, which makes his inevitable move easier to digest for the yokels

That’s the only thing that concerns me in regards to him coming to us. It would be so Essendon to accept two seconds from someone like the Bulldogs just to screw us and Merrett over.

Even though the bomber fans are pissed, they still want maximum compo for Zach!

They will rant and rave, at the end of the day they want the best compo to set their club up. If that’s the Hawks then they will take it!

Imagine trying to ask the AFL for compensation picks and having to explain why you didn’t take the best offer for ZM and yet took way under value!

Essendon need players - especially if Merrett goes. They don't have a midfield without him (with Martin out for 12 months with ACL).

Might even be something like Reeves + future first or somethign like that. I may have gone too far the other way
