I think we need to move past the criticism
“we only draft half back flanks with midfield potential “

Under the old regime with O’brien in charge that’s valid.
But now Massey is National Recruiting Manager and his first draft he delivered these.

Bo Allan (pick 16)
Jobe Shanahan (pick 30)
Tom Gross (pick 46)
Lucca Grego (pick 48)
Hamish Davis (pick 65)
Malakai Champion (Category B rookie)

He unfortunately has no say in trades and is the one left to pick up the pieces Matt Clarkes leaves. So besides picking Allen over M.Reid (we all know the homesick rumours) he has done a terrific job.

I’ll back Massey to pick the right players

Let’s hope Clarke has learnt from last year.
Also 9 other teams with 14 other picks chose not to select M Reid before West Coast.

Well, instead of getting the most highly rated player in the draft, currently Duursma, we would be getting the 8th best and maybe 11th best.

My question stands, do people think West Coast would be happy with that?

They would. Maybe a future pick thrown in.

Whats the difference in rankings between pick 4 and pick 8?

Every draft has tiers of quality. A standout #1. Then maybe 2 or 3 closely ranked guns. Then a tier of 5 or 8 players ranked the same or to close to call.

The 8th player picked likely a similar ranked player as 11. Players ranking dont automatically drop every pick.

Then you get the statement " you could throw a blanket over the next 20." Its all subjective.

Pick 6 will become pick 9 or 10. Even 11 or 12.

Annables, Uwland, Patterson should all go before pick 6.

Dean is ranked 10.

Farrow at live pick 10 isnt out of the question however Cumming will likely be there around 10 as well.
But would he be the sixth best available kid in the open draft or would he slide?

Good comparison.

Duursma has some real weapons, that could make him a very dangerous player with real hurt factor, when he is feed by a winning midfield.
How are we going to have a winning midfield next year if we don't get a half decent ruck man ?

CDT isn't that half decent ruck man.

I'm confident he'll be good wherever he lands, it just won't be an AFL level first ruck.

I think we already have our man in Archer Reid, until he blossoms into our #1, we survive with our current battlers of Flynn and Big Bad Bailey sharing the load.

If we have to take Duursma at pick 1 (hopefully after bidding on Annable & Uwland), I'd split pick 2 and take both Greeves and Robey. I think they're exactly the high impact mid types that we need. Need those types more than Sharp imo, and both should be available if we split. I hope Robey's draft range doesn't jump up even more.

Where are we getting a half decent ruckman from?

I think the only reason we would draft Duursma at 1 and split 2 is if we thought Sharp would be available where we can get him. Greeves is not the inside mid we're looking for.

What issues are there with Greeves, in comparison to Sharp?
My concern is that Greeves has dominated in CTL because of his size relative to other players, which won't be as advantageous at the next level. Sharp has held his own against adults.

Greeves is slower, worse tank, doesn’t win as much of his own football, prefers to receive the ball in better positions whereas Dyson gets it himself. Sharp oozes leadership and a come with me attitude has three years of senior footy runs on the board, Greeves comes across as very FIGJAM.

Greeves is however more of a threat when playing forward but Sharp is still very good overhead.

I would be surprised is any recruiter in the country has Greeves ranked equal to or above Sharp.

CDT might be the perfect ruckman with new rule changes coming.

Wouldn't mind taking one of Sharp/Dursma and CDT

Not sure why people keep saying this about CDT. Even under the new rules which will likely make very minimal difference, a ruckman still needs to be competitive in the ruck. And CDT has been far from competitive against other rucks his own age from the games I have seen.
He's a forward who rucks sometimes, literally the last position we need right now. Just take Duursma and the midfielder we rate the highest with 1 and 2 and be done with it

people seem to be sleeping on Cumming and Hibbins-Hargreaves. IMO they have the tools to be the best players from this crop, will be stoked if we can land both

There’s a lot of love for Sam Cumming in here, particularly with the keen draft watchers.

NHH would be a fantastic pick for a team that can afford risk. Unfortunately we can’t but if he’s still there at the Hawks pick I’d be ok taking him although I’d prefer a Dalton type where you know what you’re getting. Phillipou would be another around that pick.

Best two U18 rucks in the country are WA boys, one is an under ager and the other is a double under ager. Hope we end up with one of them.
agree, will be the right time to draft another ruck prospect and Van Rooyen or Walsh will be 3-4 years younger than A Reid and are both very exciting prospects.
Barnett and Livingstone will be gone or Livingstone will be WAFL ruck.
CDT wouldn't blow wind up either of those 2 prospects.
I think we are stuck with Flynn and BW with backup from A Reid for the foreseeable future unless someone comes out of the unknown.
JW as a backup is plenty of ruck support for the medium term.
When A Reid starts developing a more mature body, BW will find himself gone and we will draft a ruck prospect like Van Rooyen or Walsh.
