Player Watch Pick #12 (2018) - Zak Butters

Thank god both CD and Ken are gone. They allowed this festering of doing what is right for the player and either overpaying to bring them in or undersell them when trading out.

Now I hope as hell Josh and his team make it extremely difficult and hard to deal with at the trade table and inject utter ruthlessness.
From what I’ve been told by people on here that know better than me the coach doesn’t have as much input as we’d think.
Yes he has a say in what sort of player he wants but the decision is left to the drafting team on who we actually get.
I guess they are paid to do that job.
Hopefully we won’t be as much of a pushover in the future.

Going to be a long off season.
With Zak being Victorian the VFL media will be milking every click they can get.
Will be so many rumours and “sources close to Butters” that it will probably run all through the season as well.
Coupled with the number of people on here that jump at any chance to be negative will be an entertaining read anyway.

Basically the old days of player club loyalty are pretty much done anyway. Clubs will happily discard players when it suits them so it’s pretty hard to begrudge a player who looks after their own interests.

I’d like to think Zak stays but like it or not he is a prime target for other clubs.

Dogs are very confident he will come to us due to his connection to the club. Personally can't see you guys letting him go this year as you will try to have a good year next year and hope he invests long term. I also can't see Zak becoming toxic and forcing his way out whilst contracted. Do you think you guys will match next year if he does nominate us?

What connection? Did he play for the western bulldogs prior to coming to port?

NWM also has a "connection" with us. It doesn't mean he requested a trade.

I would be cautious about him wanting to leave just because a reporter mentions this.

Unless it comes directly from Butters and his management team this is just clickbait for now.

Regarding matching an offer of course we will.

Oh no a baby bitch Kenny lover wants to go **** off then

He's unambiguously our best player.

If he’s checked out, I’m going hard for Hawthorns Will Day.

Day would be a good get, if he can get his body right. If not, whats the difference between him not playing for us because he's on Hawthorn's list and him not playing for us because he's injured?

Port will match any offers that comes Butters' way. Port presented Butters a very lucrative deal which will make him Port's highest paid player.

Just have to hope that Butters sees enough in Carr's plans that he feels Port can win a flag or two next season.

Day gives me damaged goods vibe, bit too risky for my liking.

I have been hearing it for well over 12 months. Media are only just catching on. I totally understand you guys probably don't believe it, nor want to.

Port are $67 bucks to win a flag next year even behind Melbourne.
It ain’t happening that fast.

There was a post on here from September last year that bulldogs were interested in Butters. Let’s not pretend that it hasn’t been known for a while.

You’re not in the know.

Given our trading history for the last couple of years we will give him away for a bag of chips
Very disappointing news to hear this.. after such a positive couple of weeks.. whichever clubs want him then in return we want their best player..

I’ll take will day/max homes/sam darcy.

No bending over on this one or he can play for north

His whole Family are Mad Doggies supporters and he spoke of his desire to play for his Childhood club before being Drafted.

This paired with Bont being vocal on his desire to get him to the club and the BTS rumbling from "In-The-Know" users, that we're pursuing him aggresively.

all this Is why we're pretty confident, if he exits, it will be in our colours. No way your list management walks him this season though.
Yep, i think its most likely he stays at Port or comes to the dogs. Can't see him going elsewhere from what i hear.

Hopefully Zak plays this year for us and Carr is a great coach and he stays.

But if he leaves, hopefully we get 3 first rounders for him.

What is the 2026 draft looking like without Dougie Cochrane. Is it jam packed or weak?

Would have to be the mother of all offers to let him go this year, and the majority of what we received in return would need to be concentrated in the 2026 and 2027 drafts. That said, Zak thinking about a trade with 4 rounds to go isn’t surprising and isn’t news. We already know he’s weighing his options. We just have to make ourselves the best one.
