The player I've got in mind is like a McCreery archetype that can put on pressure with their legspeed and isn't necessarily a close to goal finisher but I don't really see that type of player in the pool.
I think that’s Kako. As Kako gets further into his career I think he’ll become more of a half forward/mid, rather than the crumbing close to goal forward. He played more as a high forward this year anyways.

I think a goal kicking small forward is what the team needs, considering Guelfi is often the deeper small forward. Guelfi is fine with pressure and defensive acts but doesn’t have the skill/goal sense. HEA seems to fit the mould, but I’m not sure if he’s better than Kickett.

Guelfi also seems to be injured a lot of the time so I don't think his career goes much past his 30th birthday. Still a few years away but I think we'd do well to start drafting for that need now.

Kako was at Sweid's house last night, Huss was sitting right next to him when drafted.

Community is important
Eagles and Tigers should have passed on Duursma then so he could come to us and North should have traded Zane for pick 100.
Brothers are important.

We are not the Essendon community Football Club.

Since when is getting to play AFL simply not good enough?

Disappointment, go visit someone who doesn’t get drafted.

Pass on Byrne for mine, feel like his a fringe player in a bottom 8 side at his best. When we draft a small forward I’d hope we go for someone with the potential to change a game or bust. Not a fan of drafting players just to fill a gap.
Pressure small forwards change the game. May not be Byrne but he has shown he has the pace and attitude to do it.
One of our issues is the football transitioning out of our forward line with no pressure because our small forward have been slow.
If someone drafts Byrne it will be because they think he can fill the high pressure spot and no just fill a gap.

absolutely. not to mention the hours of mentoring and coaching he'd have received for free from efc. suspect he's nothing other than than grateful.

Sorry, I didn't realise that Willem and Zane Duursma had been involved at Essendon since they were 13 or 14, having someone like that under our nose the whole time is a pretty big oversight if you ask me.

Altruistic me says 'great we are uplifting the entire talent pool for everyone's collective benefit', selfish me says 'we should be the primary beneficiaries of that benefit and cohorting like minded kids will lead to better outcomes for all of them, and for us'.

Think I prefer we pick who we think are the best players.

😉 looks like Matty Rosa agrees with my ball knowledge

Glad we ended up with Robey but the Tigers have done well as well.
Cumming was pretty much equal to Robey for me. I really only liked Robey more as he was a bit taller and fitted our list profile better.
Grlj could also be an inspired pick. Real speed and agility. Have always liked him. He would slot straight in for us.
He suites the Richmond style.
Think they have done well despite us getting the guy most of us wanted.
Melbourne would be pretty pumped with XT.
Nothing is ever certain but I think Richmond and us have done well.
Didn't seem we were ever intersted in Grlj.

Wonder if we had mail the Tigers were going to pick him? They were into him way back.

Didnt we also have mail they would take Taylor.

We didn't seem to put as much work into either of them.

originally we were being conditioned for Sharp and Cumming.....then Tigers swooped on Cumming, meaning that there was a chance Robey could fall through to us.

My tigers picks originally were Taylor + Grilj, but then Robey went right up the board. Then Cumming also came late. And they were choosing from the 4.

We potentially took the best player from SA, WA and VIC. Would be amazing if it worked out that way.

SA - Sharp SA Captain, Larke Medallist
WA - Farrow first picked player from WA
Vic - Robey best player from the Coates league best team, with power and size could be anything.

Maybe because the club saw so much of him, they had a better view of the flaws in his game, so they didn’t think it was worth picking him so high…

Having Joe Daniher and Jobe Watson in the team didn’t bring success, even though their fathers both played for the club.

The fact that Essendon put Sweid into the NGA is probably one of the biggest boosts that you can give to someone’s prospects of making it onto an AFL list. Fremantle rated him higher in the draft, which means he’s more likely to play for them than an Essendon who doesn’t think he’s as good.

Sweid as good as a year he has had still has some flaws.
179cm
has had a acl injury
Plays mid, but to make it at AFl possibly needs to be a forward?
doesn't have elite disposal, its good, but not elite.
* Is his type a positional need for us?

Some of us extrapolate it out and he becomes a Snelling type, others a Prestia type.

I think we would have taken him at the right price - its a bit cheeky/wrong that 25 is still classed as a first rounder so the bid would effect our first round pick next year. When in reality its more like a early second round pick.

If he was a second rounder, maybe we matched. As we keep our first round pick in tact.

I'm still happy with 6-7 players still on the board.

The point of an academy is to give those who otherwise don't have the upbringing that gets them into footy a shot at making it into the AFL. It's not about keeping them all together with friendship bracelets. Lots of kids have no way of making it into the league, while some of you are debating about the purpose of the academies Sweid is meanwhile just stoked to make it on a list.

Herald Sun says Essendon are looking at Emmett and Krasnadamskis as rucks, LeRay and NHH are of interest too. El-Achkar likely to get through to Cat B rookie list. Apparently also interested in 22 year old Flynn Gentile from Coburg in the VFL.
Get rid of Goldy and replace with a Gentile?
