Our innocence died a long time ago.

It's nearly 30 years since the Port Arthur massacre. Over 40 years since the Milperra massacre and nearly 40 years since the Queen and Hoddle Street shootings. The Strathfield massacre was in the early 90s. And they are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.............

Sadly, what happened today isn't new or unprecedented in this country. :(
RIP, Alannah and Madeleine Madeline.

Probably waiting for information, not jumping at every piece of guesswork.
Oh spare me.
Whenever theres anything its always the "zionists" to blame before even a bit of news has come out. When the jews are victims you lot want to "wait for information"

Sure....

I did not say I hate Israel. I said I don't particularly like the Israeli government.
If you were a moral person you could offer an unadulterated condemnation of Jews being gunned down in Australia.

Why drop that you hate Israel? To low key suggest that they sort've deserve it?

Seriously - why?

Without the whole my god is better than your's everyone would be having a jolly on the beach right now.
Ironically it was a religious event that brought people together to have a jolly on the beach in this case.

Hey religion has a lot to answer for but without it I have no doubt humankind would still quite easily find a way to be campaigners to each other.

Perhaps something similar two hundred years ago...
What was similar 200 years ago? Who had automatic rifles or shotguns back then? The fact is people who should be alive, are now dead, and families that should be celebrating, are grieving along with millions of Australians who are in shock tonight.

That is a bizarre interpretation of the post. There is nothing in that comment that makes it sound like anyone deserved this tragedy.

We see what you are doing here Latika Bourke.

You could of course be a proper journalist and provide context and reason rather than cut and pasting politically motivated idiocy that fuels the binary blame game that leads to tragic events such as this.

But the clicks matter more - and the political blame game suits your agenda. Shame on you.

Of course I am condenming the acts of today. I don't believe in hell but I hope the gunmen, and anyone who is celebrating today are rotting in it.

Hmm, the "anti-zionists" are very quiet in this thread, I wonder why?

This is what anyone who supported Israel was saying would happen, and shock horror, look what has happened!
I am an absolute anti-Zionist. I recognise that Jewish civilians were targeted at a civilian event to mark the Jewish Festival of Lights known as Hanukkah or Chanukah - both spellings are correct according to this;

...The Hebrew name of this holiday is חנוכה, which is pronounced kha-noo-kah. It is never pronounced as tcha-noo-kah.

“H” or “Ch”?

The first consonant of חנוכה, the ח, is pronounced as /x/ in Ashkenazic tradition. This phoneme, which sounds like someone clearing his throat of phlegm, does not exist in standard English.

Thus, several approaches have been adopted.

The most common English spelling uses “h,” which is not perfect, but makes for an eminently pronounceable word. In addition, in Sephardic tradition the ח is pronounced as /ḥ/, which sounds close to /h/. Thus Sephardic Jews, as well as many non-Jews, prefer “Hanukkah.”

Ashkenazic Jews, however, traditionally favor “Chanukah.” This is because “ch” has long been used to represent the /x/ in innumerable names (Menachem), holidays (Pesach), and concepts (Chabad), like it is used in German. Thus, in traditional, observant circles, “Chanukah” is more familiar and consistent with how many other Hebrew and Yiddish words are treated...

It's wrong, this senseless slaughter. Very wrong. What Netanyahu's Israel is doing is an incredible evil but for you to think that this attack on civilians is something we anti-Zionists would applaud is also very, very wrong.
