****ing hell
Paul is fortunate he survived this terrible health issue. Pneumonia and turned away from a UK hospital, then mis-diagnosed in a Bali hospital. Perth hospital fixed it. Our health system is still very good compared to other countries. No doubt that Paul has lost weight and strength and probably will take time to reach his peak fitness. Let's not get judgemental on his performance in the first half of this season.

Blimey! Poor PC. Considering how fit he is it must have been pretty nasty to keep him in hospital for eight days.

He speaks so well. A couple more seasons and he’ll be in the leadership group.

Holy shit.

Here I was thinking it was a little infection that the Balinese Hospital couldn’t get control of! Had no idea it resulted in surgery and a near 3 month lay off.

Fingers crossed there is no lasting injury to his lungs and that it doesn’t impact his tank too much.

Surely this gets added to BigFooty pre season random injury/medical episode folklore…

P. Curtis - Lung full of puss. 12 weeks.

He was seriously hit by Covid just before the draft from memory

Obviously needs to be diligent with his respiratory health
As someone who cops respiratory viruses really bad it's hard, because post COVID no one seems to give a **** if they infect you.

On par with wells clots on the lungs.

Can we just have our absolute weapon young kids get through unscathed for once

You're right. It's not pretty to be coughing up phlegm that's taken the shape of the internal cavities of your lungs and has veins that formed in it. Not to mention the blood. It can scare the other people on the train, that's for sure.

This only happens to a north melbourne player, so cursed.

Just hope he gets through the season ok, I'm not expecting a big year and no one really should after medical trauma like this.
I thought exactly the same thing, we seem to cop more than our fair share of player related issues. Hope he is on the mend soon.

Yep. Think we’ll have to lower our expectations on his output after that.

He’s been in main training hasn’t he?

And there’s still two months left before Round 1.

I’ll reckon he’ll be close to 100% by then.

Quality healthcare over in the UK it seems…

A litre of puss removed from your lungs is nightmare fuel.

Unfortunately the NHS is under massive strain due to a decade of cuts. He rocked up at an A&E in the middle of a combined flu, Covid and norovirus spike that had record numbers attending A&E (higher than 2020 Covid crisis). There was also a high level of staff absence with the same things and a junior doctors strike (pay and conditions, provoked by a massively unpopular Health Secretary who is the textbook smug Pommy prat).

Thankfully PC made it. Too many didn’t as there was a spike in excess deaths here in Q4 last year. From a North point of view it will take time for him to regain full conditioning. We need to be careful with his rehab in preseason.

He was doing a lot of running by himself pre-Xmas, this illness would explain why. It’s actually not unusual for him though. He often does his running outside of the group.

But he took part in the full match sim on Friday. If there were any concerns clubs would err on the side of caution. Probably just a matter of building into Rd 1.

And in other things that happened months ago, we cross to our reporter Marty McFly….

If it was a Collingwood player it would have been round the clock news. They would have met him in Bali, jumped in the medi-vac, chased the ambulance to hospital before setting up camp next to his hospital bed. Such terrible reporting to only be bringing this up months after it happened.
