Personally think the length of pre season in AFL is stupid, doesn't it effectively start in November and run through to March? Why not just extend the season by 4 additional games at that point.
Yeah with massive breaks in the middle due to Christmas and New Year. Zero continuity for coaching and fitness staff to work with the players. Not to mention the capped number of hours per week the players can actually spend at the club as negotiated by the Players Association.

If the club is sensible, they wouldn't be putting Curtin or Keane's injuries down to McKeown. And Draper's issues started before McKeown even arrived at the club.

You can ask questions about Ah Chee and Rankine, although Rankine has a history of hamstring issues. Sounds like it wasn't very serious anyway if he resumed training. I'm not aware of Ah Chee's injury history.

Most of the other injury question marks (Cumming, Soligo, etc) are continuations of issues from previous years.

Lets wait and see Rd 1.

In 2022 - We had Seedsman (career ending Concussion), Murphy (neck) - unavailable.

In 2023 - We had Worrell (Hammy), Dowling (footy), Crouch (foot) - Unavailable.

In 2024 - We had Sloane (eye poke), Schoenberg (2024 Achillies), Murray (2024 ACL), TT (Knee) - unavailable

In 2025 - We had Strachan and Jones unavailable for rd 1.

Thats our unavailable injury list under Burgess. Be interesting to see where we are RD 1 2026.

Once again - for those that are really really senstive (those with three players in their names) - I am not angry or suggesting anything apart from that its worth looking at.

An injury list with Draper, Curtin, Ah Chee, Rankine, Keane (possibly Cumming and Soligo) is far worse than any injury list we have had to deal with under Burgess.

We've had plenty of preseason injuries over the past few years, just few major ones.

It remains to be seen whether either Ah Chee or Rankine are serious ones, and Draper has been managed from the start of preseason. Only Curtin and Keane have taken serious injuries, both of which were essentially contact injuries.
Yep ....so far, nothing that's season derailing

I think it's important to remember that there is a difference between players having niggles during preseason, and players missing round 1. Soligo struggled for much of last year due to an injury-interrupted preseason, but he played round 1.

Rankine is going to miss round 1 regardless, and I'll be surprised if he misses round 2. Ah Chee should be there either in round 1 or shortly afterwards.

The bigger concern this preseason is not the number of injuries, it's who has gotten injured. Our most promising young player in Curtin, our pick 4 midfield draftee in Draper, our boom recruit in Ah Chee, arguably our most important defender in Keane, and arguably our best player in Rankine, all makes for pretty unfortunate reading. If that list was instead Jones, Ryan, Welsh, Borlase and Pedlar (just picking players who play similar roles) I don't think people would be nearly as upset.

If thats your opinion - why even pay anyone to run our fitness program. Pay Burgess for a month every 5 years to set up the program and let him walk away.

Burgess joined us prior to the 2022 season. Since the beginning of 2022 - we have been absolutely blessed with an amazing injury run. Now since he has left this preseason we are likely to be without the following players in RD 1 - Curtin, Keane, Ah Chee, Rankine, Draper all due to injury. Is it luck?
Would it be insane to have him on contract and working from overseas? He could oversee the program, provide instructions and advice.
A forward looking club would probably do it.

Fog said Rankine was in the weights room after the on field training. Can't be too bad.
Sounds minor, but enough to be ruled out of the next game v Port.

The issue now for Rankine is he may not get a decent hitout before his round 2 game.

If Rankine has any niggle at all no matter how minor it would be madness to risk a more seriousness injury for meaningless preseason practice games given he won't play for a month anyway. Better he starts rd2 a little underdone in match practice then misses the first month.
