He did, but I don't think it's the right move.
💯, I’d hate to see him get his legs taken out from under him by a kamikaze mid trying to get a ground ball and do a knee.

Maybe as a compromise push him up to the wing occasionally to utilise his marking and decision making and to help get him into games where he’s struggling.

Still need someone wo ruck when mcnadrew rests. Does T Murray play
Not when we are already playing 3 tall forwards... but when one is missing, would be a serious consideration.

So how do we play Thilthorpe full time forward. We need someone to chop out McAndrew. Even ROB needs a chop out.
Thilthorpe will need to chop out if he is playing with both Fog & Tex.

I don’t understand why we don’t have TT ruck the forward 50, or 30. Once the ball enters that area, our ruckperson grabs a breather and sets up a kick or so behind the play. Instead, what we do is have ROB either ruck inside 50 or hang back 15m from the stoppage in no man’s land. He’s never been used when positioning there or impacted oppo ball movement. And yet we’ve been doing this for numerous years. It’s insanity.

Exactly, as ROB used to just block up the forward line any way.

With the new ruck rules, ruckmen need to get to the throw up quicker & last night Port got a goal when McAndrew couldn't get to the contest.

Thilthorpe takes the forward line or Walker if unavailable.

McAndrew takes the defence & midfield zones.

Dawson & Curtin when he is back should be practising ball ups, as there will be times when a midfielder will need to compete for the ruck under the new rules.

Thilthorpe actually had several squirts playing a big midfielder on the ball
This could be a sign we don’t really want to ruck him but still like an option to get him involved in the game if he needs it

(Friday he didn’t need it so in that scenario we shouldn’t throw him in as a mid but training it as in a quieter game if we already have 2nd ruck covered we may still want to get his hands on it more in a quieter game patch)

Using Rankine injuring a hammy as evidence is wetting the bed though.

As evidence to what? I had no narrative.

Simply said that we have had a worse run of injuries to date this preseason than we have under the past 4 years under burgess. Do you disagree with that fact?

And we know that Soligo and Draper brought their injuries in from last season. We also know that Matty Crouch just retired stating that pain free groins post footy mightn’t be a possibility. So what’s happened outside the norm? One player has done a hammy. Wow, where’s that panic button?

Soligo brought injuries in from last season? What injury? He played 25 games last year. Did he have surgery in the offseason?

Out of interest, what injury was Max returning from late last year?

He hurt his hammy. What type of narrative do you think I am trying to paint?

All I have said (and shown with our rd 1 injury list) is that we have been extremely healthy entering round 1 over the past 4 years with Burgess. Now as we are in late February there are injury concerns over Keane, Curtin, Draper, Rankine, Ah Chee, Soligo, Cumming and Hinge.

Now that might all fix itself over the next 3 weeks. But it's certainly worth a discussion. It could be luck, it could be nothing, it could be that we havent had a good preseason fitness wise with this new guy.

Burgess only left recently. If we have players breaking down with over use and soft tissue injuries he likely bears some responsibility for that.

FWIW Melbourne ppl will tell you something similar happened when he left the Dees.

It's an interesting thought.

Not sure of his complete history - but feel like he has had a pretty limited tenure at all of the clubs he has been involved with (3-5 years).

Would be fascinating to see what the health looks like of his squads and players in the 2 years after he left.

I have posted in the past that we wasted Burgess. Why have a fitness guru for a rebuilding squad - far more valuable to have him for a squad that can contend during his tenure.

Hard to do much of a rebuild if you have a horrible injury list, potentially impacting long term the career young players could have. Get a young squad together with elite strength and conditioning programs and teach elite habits from the start. Hopefully this is what was instilled while Burgess was here.
