Probably need an entire clean out pronto.

No one coaching the lines seems to able to get their group firing so you'd hardly want any of them entrusted with the top job.The midfield and forward lines are dire given they've actually got some talent, the backline's bereft of anything.
They way they’re all set up actively sabotages the chance of winning.

From someone who watched Clarko coach the Hawks one thing that I have been really confused about his tenure at North has been his seemingly lack of focus on the defensive side of the game.

He always built sides from the backline up and even in his latter years at the Hawks when we were playing some pretty dire footy it must be said we were still hard to score against.

I know you guys have concentrated on stacking the midfield and you don't have the best back six going around but the lack of defensive structure still makes me wonder what he is trying to achieve.

My main concern back then when he was deciding where to coach, our president said **** the process, I am just going to offer him a blank cheque... which probably wasn't the worst idea given what the process produced before him. Something I posted a number of times in the thread back then was that I was concerned if he had the hunger to go again because the signs of how he was coaching in his last year at Hawthorn weren't great and he was no longer the coach that was punching holes in the wall, he had been cucked about his anger issues. He threw one chair after we played like dogshit and they literally cut his balls off.

Granted, the Hawthorn fiasco didn't do him any favours but he didn't put up a fight over Mitchell replacing him at Hawthorn and his coaching at Hawthorn warranted him getting the arse and his coaching here hasn't been any different.

There has been no urgency in addressing major issues, he approached Logue before he came aboard and saw him playing a Gibson like half-back role, but the modern game with 6-6-6 and limited rotations has changed radically. You can't have players who can't run both ways, you can't have players that do not tackle or put pressure on. You do not need to play Saints like negative footy, you just have to do the defensive thing when it is what is required by the current situation.

You do not need to be a supercoach to figure this shit out, he just needs to stick his head out the window when our women's team trains, it is the complete antithesis of the men's team, everything the men are lazy about or dogshit at the women are good at. One hasn't lost a game in two years, the other don't look like winning a game.

It has blown my mind how nobody has said enough is enough.

If he is genuinely entertaining playing 2 rucks in X and CCJ he has already lost the plot…
Thinking outside the box, why not look at Will Dawson in the ruck. Has a good leap, he looked good in the VFL games I watched him in there. Chom is the other athletic tall that could potentially do it. Neither are undersized and it would leave Trembath to play a combination of Back and Forward. I just can't see Xerri/CCJ working at centre bounces.

l would be letting Trembath settle playing in the forward line before throwing him on the backline. l know he's played there before but going by what we saw last season the forward line may be his niche. The same goes with Dawson whereas Chom playing ruck might get injured to often. Look whats happened when he has played fwd or back. While the Xerri/CCJ combo might not work at centre bounces there are also around the ground plays where it might work. However l would be looking at playing Goad when he's fit to give him more experience especially in the latter half of the season.

At least he won't go for the X, CCJ, Goldy combo under Noble (when there was four on the bench).

If we're not prepared to make hard selection calls, we may as well shut up shop.

25-77-1 from 103 games - 24.7%

Clarkson: 11-57-1 from 69 (settle
down Zondor) - 16.6%.

I have zero sympathy for Denis and his little Carlton experience but they were never on our level as sheer pincushions.

Out of the gate they beat us in the first live North vs Carlton.

Hawthorn have touched us up each and every time we've played them under Clarkson. Not even a hint of get the squad up to take out his protege.

I really think talk on the centre bounce and ruck should not be the major focus atm. An average game has 28 goals. So if we went negative in there and played 2 defensive mids at all times, we might come out with 25% lost, 25% won and 50% in dispute. Some of the better coaches, rucks and players will adapt far quicker and lift that win % during the season. Our top 3 issues IMHO are this.

1. Defensive transition set up. Teams who play is just kick their lips when they run it against our set up if you can call it that.
2. Tackling - X led our average per match last year. Let that sink in as a Ruck. Next best Mr Hamstrung Wardlaw and then Powell.
3. Playing people who cannot defend in the backline, and continue to play them. Eg, Caleb Daniel.

Really hate the messaging of the club over recent days/weeks. And to be honest it has been a problem for years (obviously). With this ‘back-pedal’ from clarko + larkey’s comments regarding Cornes in the rooms (“just don’t go too hard on us at the start of the season”).

It is clear to me that we cannot cope with legitimate criticism. We are too afraid to be embarrassed by the media that the messaging has moved from ‘finals are a chance, this is the year’ to ‘we just want to improve every day, don’t go too hard on us’. We have been a joke of a men’s team for 6+ years - it doesn’t get more embarrassing. It bleeds into supporters who shout from the hilltops that we are not too bad, there is green shoots, etc. and it bleeds into player mentality and gives them to an extent a subconscious let-off.

There is the sentiment that ‘it will turn’ constantly, it has in the past so it will in the future. And while yes that is the case, it will turn at one point in time, it doesn’t just happen because quota A, B or C has improved. It could have ‘turned’ somewhat last year, we beat Brisbane, Freo and Essendon let’s say and that’s 8 wins and we finish 14th and come into this season with more tangible improvement. We have to stop giving ourselves get out of jail free cards - the same things allowing Clarkson , Rawlings and others to remain unsuccessful in their roles without meaningful criticism.

I could care less about practice match results, as I know if we beat Collingwood on Sunday that it will be a different beat to the drum over the next couple weeks. But I am tired of the cycle of - pre-season: “it will turn”, start of season: “oh we just got x,y and z wrong”, mid-season: “stick fat, everyone is working hard”, end of season: “well actually we improved in these stat areas to just below league average instead of horrible so that’s improvement”.

It is time to lay it bear and expect more from them - We don’t necessarily have the cattle in defence. We SHOULD have 2+ A graders in the midfield (as in they should be playing like A graders), we SHOULD have enough goals, we SHOULD be able to have a defence that is playable for AFL standards. As Kingy said on KangaTV - there is not much separating the Roos from the teams around them on the ladder. These teams all have serious flaws like us. It is time for the messaging to shift and for us to see serious improvement - and if not, there needs to be serious consequences.

100%

We've just totally ignored the art of coaching, the art of punching above your weight as a playing group, and the art of balanced list management.

We've swallowed the high pick = talent = success Kool Aid.

You’ve put it perfectly.

Man he won a premiership with Matt Spangher as a key back and we’re supposed to believe we don’t have the cattle to become mid table right now?

Dogs won a flag with a backline of:
Biggs, Roberts, Hamling, JJ, Morris and Wood. With no gun key forwards and with their now midfield stars being in their early careers. But we can’t come 10th?

Work with what you’ve got and always aim for success. No excuses.

Laughable.

He’s a genuinely insipid man now.

12 months away from being 12 months away.

Permanently.
Completely bereft of ideas (and has been for a while now) - solely relying on 'hope' as such 'spikes' have happened at other clubs decades ago.

It's a very sad end to a coaching career that achieved so much in its day.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results.

I think it’s time for a roll out of that movie where Hitler looses his shite in the bunker with all his generals sitting around the table.

I’ll have Dennis Pagan playing Hitler and the 4 lead Generals can be Herrs Todd and Alastair and Fraulines SonYaa and Jenn. Just need to add in the Kangas scripts. Here are some starters for the screen writers.

“Who the f*ck made the call to play Wardlaw last weekend?”

“Who extended Archers contract for 2 years when he can’t even get on the battle ground most weeks?”

“Why are vee using WW1 strategies (2000’s) when we are in WW2 (2026)?”

“Who made the call to recruit those useless Privates Fisher and Daniel to the club?”
