There is no guarantee the Crows will retain the current number of talls. They may simply include Rankine for Toby Murray and go for the extra run in what seems like excellent football conditions with calm, pleasant and fine weather predicted.
Who chops out in ruck because English absolutely has McAndrew for endurance and the Doggies play a much more running/overlap game than the Pies.

Different rule in the middle, but not around the ground where ROB's bullocking is his main strength.
You'd expect ROB to bully English at throw-ins and ball-ups around the ground (as he has in the past), with English giving the Dogs' midfielders silver service at the centre ball-ups.

Note that the new rules have been designed to decrease the number of around-the-ground stoppages.

Given ROB's ineffectiveness at the centre ball-ups and the reduced number of other stoppages (where he can have an impact), the case for bringing ROB back in is not a strong one.

i dont want Thilthorpe in the ruck in the centre

Probably Maley then if Murray doesn't come up though Maley was pretty ordinary in the trial game against Central but it will only be a minor role unless McAndrew gets injured during the game.

Darcy seems to be English's chop out so he'd likely dominate either of Murray or Maley in actual ruck contests.
Why can’t Thorpie chop out and we add an extra runner ?

Because the new ruck rules are designed to promote ruck knee clashes, resulting in PCL injuries. This is why the rules were changed previously.

The last thing we want is for Thilthorpe to cop a PCL injury, jumping for a ruck contest he should never have been at in the first place.

How many rucks has been injured so far?

Give it time.

History says that there about 4-5 PCL ruck injuries per season previously. I'd expect that to rise to 5-6 this year, given the number of rounds added since the rule was last in place.

Big Finbarr has a horrible leg on him but he can clunk one so I would be keen on him getting a gig. Just tell him not to go anywhere near Filthy in a marking contest.

While I agree ROB isnt the man moving forward, there is a fair bit of disrespect in here for him, he had a pretty ordinary end to the year and lowered his colours in the finals, but he actually had a pretty good season, particularly early.

I'm very much against TT in the ruck this year. TBH i'm surprised the Dogs are letting Darcy play as 2nd ruck in CBA's. He's their 2nd most valuable player, and will absolutely be the most valuable very soon.

If they lost Darcy to a 2-6 month PCL because TMurray jumped into him in a aggressive yet clumsy way (and no offense to the Murrays, but that's essentially their signature move) the Dogs fans would riot!

The thing with ROB is his game is largely built around wrestling and running. His aerobic capacity is his strength which is kinda pointless when you play less than 30% game time.

He's likely to be there for 5-6 CBs at most, you'd have to be mighty unlucky.
It would be more than that, I would expect. McAndrew participated in 70% of all ruck contests against Collingwood - this is well down on the 80.8% that ROB was attending last year.

This means that the back-up ruck has more work to do... hence more CBs, and more chances to get the dreaded PCL injury.

I can't wait to watch Izak Rankine play again!

Not against him playing most of the game deep forward, but I definately want to see a few spurts on ball. That connection from McAndrew to Rankine could be worth the price of admission on its own!

Agree, my point wasnt about him playing this year, the new rules have clearly crippled him, my point was more about pointing out that he wasnt actually that bad for large parts of the year last year.
His form clearly tapered at the end, unfortunately when it matters most, but perhaps he had a too higher workload throughout the year?
