With Murdoch, Newton. Champion, Cripps (maybe), + rotations next yr and beyond - why would WC need Rogers?
Because that’s not a great list of small forwards? Murdock has been awesome but it’s also only 2 games, Newton has been fine, Champion has barely played AFL, Cripps has one foot in the grave

More to the point, what evidence is there that he’d entertain a move to West Coast

I mean there’s logic to thinking we might be able to entice Walter over given his links to WA but there’s no such connection for Rogers who’s Queensland born and grew up a Suns supporter

He’d be a handy pickup but until there’s any evidence he’s gettable, I’ll leave the wishful thinking to others

I think we will hopefully have the luxury to try and wriggle out contracted players if we keep up the exciting young core theme throughout the year. ZZ for example may be a bit easier to get a hold of if he sees a bunch of guys his age tearing it up and an open spot in the backline for him.

Who are some of the parties that could be shake loose? WA kids over the last few years of drafts? Or talented vets. Neale could see himself taking over Yeo’s list spot next year heaven forbid the injuries pile up again, given Harley’s trajectory he could be that 1 2 punch where if you tag one the other is getting off the chain.

It’s the year for patience for sure. I’d hit the draft mostly , only minor moves and then come 2027 target a few. Chad Warner as a free agent being target numero uno for sure

How does everyone feel about us going for Leek Aleer?

I think he’s an upgrade on the likes of Brock (who it seems is viewed as an upgrade on Bazzo). He’s clearly not viewed as good enough to get a jumper at the Giants, and with 2 x 3rd Rounders & 2 x 4th Rounders we could get him for small beer this year. I don’t know if Young is going to cut the mustard when we’re playing in the Top 4.

People will laugh for sure but id take a crack at Josh Draper in the off season if he isnt getting a game. Would only trade away a token pick but think as a FB stopper I can see him having value to us
Rate it. The other one to look at would be Oli Murphy out of Peel, would be another project but as far as depth goes he is more promising than Bazzo

No thanks. Feel Brock is better

IMO, 50% of every draft won't make it
Quite a few List Managers/recruiters have said if they draft two kids that come on in one Nat Draft, that is considered a win.

2022 is a good case in point. Ginbey is definitely a win and Hewett will likely join him in that boat in a few years. Burgiel (#29) is already a bust and Barnett (#23) will likely join him in that column. Long (#53) was becoming a role player before doing two season-ending injuries in two years, likely leading him to evacuating our senior list.

Still have us winning 4 games, maybe 5 tops as it's a long year and the kids will run out of puff.
That's a far cry from the 2-4 I was realistically hoping for and way more competitive than I was hoping for in round 3.

Still makes us bottom 3 IMO with a far more competitive team and better %.
Don't stuff it up WC and draft/trade mids and KPD's while we are down here.

I can see us bouncing fairly quickly come 2028 if we get this rebuild right.

We are still getting smashed in transition with some of our troops and we are going to lose a few fairly quickly with Yeo/Cripps/Kelly and let's throw everything we have into this draft and trade period and gets almost all the parts to grow.
We still have another game v North, Port and Essendon at home, 2xRichmond, 2x GWS and St Kilda, Carlton and Melbourne away.

I feel like there are 4-5 wins just in the above mentioned games.

We should be aiming for 7+

Still feel Tylah Williams will be in our best 22 come seasons end. Think people sleeping on him a bit as a prospect
I think our small forward stocks are fine. Champion (20 in May) and TWilliams (19) are the long-term options. Newton is being rewarded for a good pre-season and they’ve got Owies if they need him.

The game is won and lost in the midfield and I think we still lack two elite inside mids. Plus two key defenders, at least one of them needs to be an A Grader.

Theyre not on the list at present - but it only adds to the list of why?

So now answer the question rather then being difficult?
Hey im not advocating getting Rogers but if your using cripps and champion as reasons not to get him i find that odd. Even Newton who i had extremely high expectations of has had a slow start to the season wouldn't keep Rogers out of the team.
Hence why I said if in your argument you'd also said that we had quite a few small forwards coming through the nga academy in the next few years it'd make more sense

He is done.

I don't remember a moment when he looked to show he has what it takes.

IMO, 50% of every draft won't make it

you are being awfully optimistic with 50%. statistics are far worse than that. 50% is just the top 10s to reach 100 games, let alone taken elsewhere.

interestingly, 1.9% of players play 250 games. it just shows how good our 2018 team was.

Chad Warner is going to find it pretty hard to say no to teaming up with Harley and Duursma in a couple of years time.
The thought of rolling that midfield out in 2028 hopefully with a Reid/CDT ruck combo hitting the ball down to them would give nightmares to the opposition.

I'm very bullish on Bo Allan eventually becoming our big brute type midfielder and hopefully Hewett as a half forward who can provide stints on ball aswell.

So looking at the future of this list build we have all the building blocks in A grade mid talent (fingers crossed Warner adds to that) elite back half distributors in Lindsay and McCarthy and some very promising front half/ruck talls.

Personally, a KPD needs to be our #1 priority. Best case scenario we can add a solid one through trade/free agency to plug a hole while we develop another.
And then we just start adding the cherry on top type players to round out the list.

Credit where it's due to the club, a period of poor list management and drafting left us a big hole. Once they identified that they made whole sale changes accross the entire club, and now we are really starting to see the vision come into fruition. Can't knock the trade/draft decisions they have made over the last 3 or 4 years, I think it's setting us up for a more sustained period up the top competing rather than the St Kilda/ Essendon model of rebuilding

It’s been a fun two weeks but we will know more about where we are at over the next 3 weeks. Swans at home, Cats in SA and then the Derby.
It’s a tough stretch and with a few boys looking sore and no Yeo, Milan and Edwards missing from our best 23 it could be a reality check.

They are probably the 3 roles we need to add more to over the next couple of years by either drafting or trade.

Yeo = midfielder
Edwards= KPD
Milan = small quality fwd.

Why not make a play for Warner end this year.

Give Syd whatever pick we have (3, 4 or 5), offer Neale good $$$ given he's unrestricted & WC have 2 midfielders who would instantly impact.

Maybe our next KPD is already on our list given the surfeit of talls we are trying to fit in the fwd line
