Player Review

1. Vlastuin - been a warrior for a long time, not sure the hunger is still there.

2. Hopper - better than other weeks injuries/lack of experience in the side saving him

3. Prestia - if the injury list wasn't the way it is, Im not sure he's playing every week.

4. Lalor - sure he was rated highly but outside the 3rd quarter didn't notice him that much.

5. Ross - not much impact from one of our leaders. Needs to do more.

6. Banks - I know he had an interrupted preseason but a month in he should be showing more.

8. Faull - 2nd year KPF tasked with trying to beat Allir at times. Up against it all game but kept competing as best he could.

11. Trainor - should not be anywhere near the VFL side for the foreseeable future. Showed up.more experienced teammates with his composure and ball use.

12. Miller - seems caught in between playing offensively and defensively. Given how much pressure our backline is often under has held up reasonably well. Better structure up the ground would help a lot.

14. Taranto - led from the front last week, didn't really notice him this week. Not going to hold n it against him though.

15. Short - has been given the distribution role in the backline but his delivery makes Auspost look good at times.

17. Maurice - before the game we were questioning if he is doing enough, then he goes an has a bigger impact than expected. Needs to become consistent though.

24. Grjl- more midfield exposure today and grabbed his chance to show something. Would have learnt plenty following Butters around at times. His defensive work against JHF was a great highlight.

28. McAuliffe - had some almost moments playing on the wing. Disposals let him down at times. Prepared to give him time to grow into the role if they're going to leave him on the wing. Would prefer inside centre square though.

30. Brown - want him to become a Vlastuin/Broad replacement but just not seeing it right now. Injuries probably saving him as well.

32. Samson - show aggression at the contest, not 100m off the ball with a dumb brain fade. Should miss a week and could have blown his last chance.

35. Broad - like a couple of other old warriors he has delivered so much, but that was then this is now. Still has the old Broad impact but we can't keep relying on the older guys to hold the fort.

40. Sonsie - a couple of moments he'd hate to see on review. There was the kick off the ground deep in D50 when he could have attacked the ball and maybe forced a stoppage. Another moment on the wing at a centre bounce where the ball came out towards his wing and he ran away to set up defensively while his opponent won possession. Otherwise he continues to grow into the wing role with some important touches.

42. Lefau - keep thinking he's playing rugby trying to run traffic and getting caught. If not for injuries he'd be playing VFL.

44. Campbell - all the talent offensively lacks effort and intensity in defensively and that gets found out eventually. Needs to lift as an older player among the young talent.

48. Green - when you get limited chances you have to nail them and this week he didn't. Consistency will come eventually.

50. Gray - no doubt he has a dip, but VFL player at best for mine at the moment. Can improve if allowed to settle in a role, but not sure he is a long term answer.
Thought Gray showed plenty for a 6 gamer?

14 disposals, 7 marks, 7 intercepts (2nd most for us, =4th most on field).

Needs to keep playing in defence, its clearly his best position.

Panned out what you predicted Vlas Prestia Hooper Broad Short Lefau Ross and the other so called superstars were going to be total crap. Only ones to show any life were the young kids. Next we will be talking about how a great side Port is!
I thought we'd be competitive for patches but not good enough for long enough to win the game. Port aren't a great side but they had enough talent in areas where we're lacking at the moment to keep us at arms length

Just not as keen on him as others have been. As I said he can improve if he settles in a role rather than being thrown all over the place.

Hard to see a win coming this year.
Positives - Grlj shows more will and intent than most the senior list
Lalor - seemed to have a hand in every goal we kicked
Pressure was good at times

Negatives - too many to list, picking Ryan after 2 quarters of vfl was beyond a joke fmd, senior players such as Hopper, Ross, Banks, Broad gave us absolutely jack shit today, to kick 6 goals on our home deck against port was horrific.

Forward line entries and leading patterns are bordering on non existent.

Really want the kids to get fit so there is something to enjoy, this team is close to the worst skilled squad I’ve ever seen
Agree, watching that live was hard to watch. Pretty disappointing really

untidy but strong and crafty footballer who has a dip, early days but seems a paul bulluss type. not gunna be in your best 6 much, but won't be in your worst six either.

o
We have 13 of our best-25 or so players on the injury list. Why anyone expects us to win or even be competitive is beyond reality. We will be lucky to have 1 x win at the bye given not many players come back before then.
People don’t get it or are too impatient. Also, our forward line, what’s the game experience of each player? People wonder why we are struggling to score. Yze, this, Yze, that it’s more the playing list and who’s available to who’s not. Makes a massive difference.

First game ive been to in person in a while, due to a few reasons...

Yze is a terrible coach, its simple.

I know we are missing players, but we have zero structure or plan... and I mean zero. Every team outside of us has a distinct game plan (except essendon), being here in person made it so obvious.

He continues to go with Hopper, prestia and taranto in the midfield and we continue to get torched. Its infuriating to see the same 3 trot to the middle every ****ing time.
Like I’ve been saying we have NFI without the ball

That was a deflating game to watch.

I’d like to say the scoreline flattered them and that we’d be a lot closer if we had converted our chances, but **** that. Our i50s and goal kicking have been garbage all year.

I’ll let others point out the pluses. I couldn’t be ****ed.
Imagine if they had converted their chances

I think most supporters understand that the rebuild is going to take time, and unfortunately at the moment it’s difficult to fast track due to injuries to our new draftees and key players like Nank and Lynch.
There’s just a huge void of talent from our 18/19 year olds to our veterans like Nank/Lynch/Vlastuin. One A grader- Taranto, and then lots of Cand D graders in that 22-28 y group.
Imo haven’t made enough hard calls on a number of our players in their mid 20s , who should have been turned over by now.
Unfortunately, most supporters aren’t on Bigfooty, lol. Just some.

Reckon everyone needs a reality check.
Our 6 forwards had less than 150 games between em and our 2 tallest most experienced players out for a month.
Todays team is so far from our best 23 it’s just not funny.
Just have to deal with this shiit a little longer till we get players back.
Chill.….
Exactly, if only more people could understand and have your point of view.

He should have retired in any serious rebuild. Seriously what sort of 'rebuilding' side includes a 33yo who wouldn't make top 23 in any other club?

Everyone dogpiled on Kmac1 even though we had no replacement winger and he set standards in the gym. All Prestia is doing is keeping talented guys like Sonsie out of their preferred position.

Its crazy given its been known for years you cant have him Ross, Taranto and Hopper in the same midfield.

This was clear 2 years ago, but the game has now moved further where you dont really need any of them.

Taranto is the best of them by a mile but he cant go with the oppositions best player either.

I wonder what would have happened if Cumming and Hotton were fit. I still dont believe they would drop one of the main 4.

But anyway yze is going to have to win a game eventually, I doubt that happens by playing all 4, maybe a wet day against another bad team.

Our contracts in general are terrible and have to be a concern that we are capable of doing this rebuild. Prestia, Ryan, Balta. All shocking decisions. OHB being on the list but not good enough to be played.

I may have spent previous night in hospital so maybe I'm delirious but I pulled a lot of positives.

Trainor, Grjl, Lalor, Faull all tracking very well.

Fawcett is still only 20, 5 shots on goal in his second game.

Maurice I noted a few weeks ago was doing much better in aerial contests and today snagged two contested marks.

Sonsie is beginning to settle into being an AFL player. Very pleased for him.

While Steely Green makes some errors, is beginning to impact games more.

More games into Gray, McAullife, Campbell.

More than half our team today have played 50 games or less.

Won inside 50’s 50-46
Won clearances 30-27
Won contested possies 115-111
Won marks inside 50 13-11
Won tackles 54-40
Won tackles forward 50 17-8

That’s a lot of wins. We are simply butchering it.

All this hate on Ryan also. The guy is so underdone it’s not funny. That’s not his fault. Should be playing VFL for a month not pretty much straight into AFL after how long was he out? Thats on the club. You’d have to be Max Gawn to make that post a winner.

Anyway I think they worked their backsides off today.

Mansell is also a bigger loss than people realise.

We knew it was going to be a long season and here it is.

The game is over arbitrated and often biased. They've ruined it. The standing rule is a joke.
Agree, at least call play on immediately the player goes off their line. I continually see players off their line, often even before they begin their run in, which in effect gives them a massive advatage in both pressure at that moment and extra distance gained and or opportunity for effective ball use. It is a blight on the game and a massive disadvantage to defence in the play. A blight on the game and very ugly.

Whatever happened to kicking the ball over the man on the mark; Franklin has a lot to answer for with his natural arc bullshit!

Tracking well ahead of were we should be in our development

We are starting to win all the stats

2028 2029 we will really begin the climb

We will be fine
