All this tanking talk and when we want to be rid of the loser mentality.
Very fickle supporters on here.
They change faster than the wind.
Serious question - how do Port get Dougie if they finish 10th or higher?

i.e. 1469 points to match bid requiring 3000 points

Easy - Deficit.
Keep Butters. Draft Dougie Cochrane with 1st round pick and 2nd rounder probably the Carlton one. Trade ports 2nd round out if can't be used in the deficit reduction to a team (probably carlton) for their 2027 2nd rounder. Then do the same in 2027 and get Pilot and touchwood Salopek and deficit for 2028. Job done. Vic's can eat a bag of D's whilst Port keep Butters, Bergman and Georgiades whilst accumulating Dougie, Pilot and Salopek at the minimum.

Still think we should be trying super hard to turn Butters into Nas this year.
I know Butters wont go to Saints, but make it a 3 way trade.
Obviously I want to keep Butters, however I have accepted that he won’t be staying.
Then we play hard for Bailey. If we just lose Butters, zero chance we can convince Bailey to come.
Won't happen. Saints will not trade no matter what. They're run by a bunch of w***ers. Only way to get Nasaih I'm afraid is either out bidding Saints in free agency or 2027 threatening the PSD by finishing bottom. Otherwise they will just be pricks regardless of whether he wants to leave or not.

What's the alternative to paying Bailey? Paying blokes like DBJ and Sweet an 100k a year?

Port were in a world they could've got milera and butters on close to 2 mill a year. They're closer to the floor rather than the top of the cap
Get the quality in if it's free in terms of draft capital

If the bid gets matched let Brisbane keep him

He won’t end up at a club he doesn’t want to go to.
Same as Butters.
Still have not read one good reason why he’d want to come to Port.

$$$ is the reason, that's before you consider role or anything else

If it's 1 million more over the life of the contract that's consider it money

Apparently Crom are into him hard and he’d choose them for success.

Far from a given that they won't match. And he's going to be 27.5 years of age at the start of next year. I am not necessarily convinced he fits the age profile they're looking at relative to where the list is currently at in its premiership window timeline.
If Brisbane match, he'll stay. But that would trigger the question of why they waited until the offer was put in in Oct/Nov to match a 1.7m offer when they could've done it earlier.

No team will pay him big money to play in a back pocket ffs.
You’re not trying to convince me he’ll come to Port because we have the money and nobody else does ?
Nobody could be that delusional.

Can’t argue with that but I don’t want us being like Carltank as it’s been shown to do more harm than good.

Hawthorn/Crows/Brisbane

It’s inconclusive.

It depends on the drafts / it depends on the players actually available / depends on the clubs culture / depends on identifying talent.

One thing for certain there aren’t too many drafts coming up like the next 2 and I’d be grateful for as many first round picks we could possibly get.

We do need an injection of at least half a dozen high-end players to actually get moving again.

The draft is a lot easier path to access these players than recruiting.

The biggest stumbling block for us is we will be rebuilding at the worst possible time when Tassie enter and get hand outs for years.
I think we need top shelf draft/trading people at the club before this all comes in.

This list has been absolutely torched, try and resist where we actually are and we'll end up like Essendon, St Kilda and Carlton. Embrace the reality of our situation, prioritise long term results and not short-term, and we'll be giving ourselves a chance at success again.

Being ruthless in chasing a flag includes whatever is required.

That’s right you have to be prepared to make tough decisions and you can’t be throwing away first round draft picks on soft players.
Two things I don’t like is Tassie coming in when we are at our worst and I’ve lost confidence in Parker and co.

I'm not in a position to know if that works but I hope you are right.

Are you suggesting no player has ever selected a club due to $$$,

Talk about delusional

Realistically saints will shoot down any attempt to pry out nas , but at this stage our club keeps getting the rough end of the stick it’s about time we stop playing the nice guys and play the same game every other club is playing.

I don’t think we can swing a trade for nas if butters leaves, but it shouldn’t be for a lack of trying.

Putting it together from nas last minute signing with saints and what C4 told us nas wanted to come to port but in the end it was apparent saints would not accept any deal we were going to be able to offer with our draft hand at the time.

This time around we need to strongly put it to the saints that they can take our draft picks now that we get for butters or the next year when he’s ooc and we’re inevitably in the bottom couple on the ladder we will offer our 28 1st rounder or take him in the psd. They can sell it to themselves they held onto him and got another year service plus a better trade deal than they would have gotten when they first blocked him leaving.

This is exactly what Collingwood would do to us.

**** the corrupt system and **** the afl for always expecting us to say thank you while we apply the lube and bend over.
