It’s a risk. And you’d probs want Day + Hawks 1st for butters

Jesus

Pick 15 and a player with Sinns durability.

Would be a horrible deal for us. Days chances of playing more than 70+ afl games from now is not much higher than the odds of me playing 70+ afl games.

Very true. But he's the Hawks' most talented player when on the park, and they'd rightly demand that much for him in a trade.

I think we should just steer clear of him entirely. Not the kind of risk a footy club in our position should be taking.

If Butters departure is a fait accompli, and Bergman’s intentions are to head back home after 2 years, then get the paperwork ready & piss them both off if two favourable deals can be negotiated.

I’d rather the club do the extra work to keep Georgie & take the punt in nailing four or five 1st rounders before the Apple Isle enter the competition.

A forward line consisting of Mitch, Whitlock & Dougie is too irresistible to pass up, and would create a weekly nightmare for every opposition defence.

If we could negotiate a trade for a ready made midfielder, that would obviously be a bonus. If Butters does leave, Carr has to play both Rozee & JHF in the guts on a F/T basis.

Bergman is almost certainly going when his contract is up, he was under the impression Butters would sign on too. So not a bad idea in going hard in this years draft.

Lol we are gonna sell Bergman low.
No point keeping him if he’s likely to depart at the end of next season & his primary motivating factor for resigning last year was financially based.

I’d happily trade him for a ready made midfielder, an early 1st, or 2 late 1st rounders. Don’t get me wrong, Bergs can be great at times, but he’s another one who seems to have a bad habit of going quiet for large portions of the game.

Is this the same Bergman that has played on Jeremy Cameron, played as a tagger in the midfield, played as a running back and wing and as a third tall forward?

And is 24 and just notched 100 games?

The guy is already a gun and one of our most useful and versatile players. He’s just about to hit his prime.

And he is yet to mention wanting to go home and is signed for another year.

We need to be doing everything to keep him rather than accepting a couple of unders picks in the teens.

I really want to see Bergman play more in the middle but injuries to the others will prevent that unfortunately.
He goes back to middle this week with Marshall in. BZT not far off as well, looks to be finally finding form and fitness.
Expect Bergs and JHF , to get more mid time in coming weeks.

If they play Toddy with Aliir and even BZT, as well as DBJ potentially playing down back again, then perhaps Bergs can run through the guts Could be why Darcy went down back again against Tigers. They have 5th man on the bench, they either use BZT as an extra KPD in case or, use BZT for most of the game and rely on a burst player for that 5th man who brings something in bursts. Who that is, I have no idea.

Sucks not having Rozee, but I'd take a guess and say that Carr planned on rotating Rozee and Bergs of half back and on ball.

If they have Aliir, Todd, BZT, Evans, Jones, DBJ, then I'm okay with them throwing Bergs on ball with Butters and either Hornet or Wines in there. At this stage though I am not a fan of Drew being in there.. Until he lifts his game by 100%

I wonder if Lachie Bramble could be an option - DFA rather than trade.

Wouldn’t cost too much. Quick, smart player and generally pretty reliable. Fought his way on to a list. Had time at the hawks during their rebuild and has played at the dogs during there recent good form.

Might be a good senior head and someone that our many mid season, preseason rookies can look to for the required attitude and application.

Worst case scenario bergs goes after his contract as a free agent , where he will be a rfa and we will be in a position where we will be around bottom on the ladder , he will get a 1st round compo and we can match any bid and force a trade if we wanted..

.. and in an offseason where nas will come ooc and possibly still looking to join us .
