Culture stuff is overstated. If you were to break down our senior players into categories of ability to kick, run, win hardball, mark overhead they would be below AFL average for starting mids in most categories. Can have an amazing culture but not have players who are physically suited to executing premiership standards.
Agreed. I’m a top bloke but probably shouldn’t be on the EFC list

Agree it is overrated by itself. You build just as much culture by drafting young competitors who have a crack at it and show some leadership. If you draft enough Archie Roberts types, you start to move the needle pretty quickly. Then you find a couple of old heads to put the final polish on it.

Even a guy like Fiorini who is basically a C+ player who will transition through the club over 3 years can at least give feedback / guidnace on how the Gold Coast built from total rubbish to a side that won a final last year.

At the end of the day, it will be guys like Roberts / Caddy / Sharp and co who will drive what happens next.

Just feel the Suns have built that forward for him, we don't have smart enough coaches to do that, and he needs good service we don't do that.
I disagree

It also shouldn't be about comparing us to anything suns have done or are doing

Its about whether hes leaving or not and who to

Hes not picking ua over another melbourne club with everything else the same, i agree

But im not offering the same

George Hewett
Jake Kolojashnij
Jack Crisp

Are our 3 leaders who can come in and help. Maybe even be best 23 at our club in 2-3 years time

If we got some/one of these guys and didnt land any big fish like Butters, Bailey, Ben King then we should feel more comfortable about letting Zerrett go for Cmack/Dear, Hustwaite and this years 1st
No to George Hewett, big reason why he continually ends up on the outer despite actually being good at footy

Do we think Rampe would be interested in coming over on a 2 year player-to-coach sort of role? Would be great mentor for Johnson, Reid, Farrow and Kondo in the backline.

Rather leaders who havnt had success or still think there young enough that success csn be achieved within their time frame

the notion of "getting in front of a bid" is now well behind us unless a club is bankrolling picks.

Having Koby 'slide' to pick 5 with our pick 3 for example means we would still likely need to move out assets to get picks 6 + something else to match.

Feel clubs in our position will invariably "split" these picks or trade back into drafts after they have matched bids on the night. Just to make keeping up even more difficult

Should he fall out of the top 10, would that mean we just need some type of late 1st plus change to match?

Also, yep, I agree on the trouble with keeping up part LOL.

Who’s best 23 spots are they taking?

assuming Merrett ridley McKay and Redman are all gone.

Langford hayes Roberts
Clarke Reid farrow
Martin McGrath ADW
Kako caddy Durham
Edwards may Nguyen/huss
Bryan Sharp caldwell

Bench: Robey wright 2x FRPs and one of Johnson/kondo, +

The only real spot available is 1x midfielder and only if we take a ruck/forward in the top 5

Or we burn Johnson/Kondo and bring in a veteran medium defender

Dont necessarily need to be best 23

And the likelihood everyone is fit at any club, let alone our club would be 0.1%

All those 4 are not gone

Any on that bench, esp the 2 first round picks, in which we only have 1 top one

After the pick gets pushed back we will have 2.

Then there’s also academy players

Trade: Parish to Geelong (part of his salary paid) for #28
Trade: Perkins to St Kilda for #42.
Trade: Tsatas to North Melbourne for a future 3rd.
Delist: Setterfield, Guelfi, Prior and Gresham
Re-sign: Gerreyn, Hayes, Johnson, McMahon, Cox, Day-Wicks, Edwards, El-Hawli and Unwin (range of 1-3 year deals, some because of potential and others because we need meat shields in the VFL rather than more young kids from the back end of the draft)
Cat-B: Nguyen and Bourke get another year
Sign: Dane Rampe as a free agent to help instruct and set some defensive standards.
Draft: #2, #20, #21 (compo pick under new bidding rules), #28 and #42. Draft Noah Williams with the first pick. Hope Marcus Prasad and Koby LeCras fall to the picks in the early 20's. Use pick #28 and #42 to fill holes with good kickers and hard runners in whatever position we need to fill.

Following offseason we finally rid ourselves of Wright/Langford and hopefully start the climb up in 2028 led by the current young group.

*Small edit as I had us re-signing Guelfi and delisting El-Hawli. Was meant to be the other way round.

Moving on the like of Parish, Langford and Tsatas isn't going to move the needle, nor is trading injury prone guys who never play like Ridely. If we want some currency we should be putting some of the 24-27 year olds who aren't showing progression on the table at the end of the year. There's nobody drafted prior to 2023 that I wouldn't be interested in hearing an offer for, maybe except Durham.

Reid would probably be the only one with any value and I think he’s more useful if we keep him

Some older heads to consider. No idea on contract situation or list spot

Forwards:
Jamie Elliott, Jake Melksham,

Midfielders:
Adam Treloar, Taylor Adams, Scott Pendlebury

Defenders:
Dane Rampe, Jeremy Howe, Ryan Lester, Nic Newman, Joel Hamling, Jake Lloyd, Harry Cunningham

I'm pretty sure we've convinced Bailey to join after yesterday's performance, but seriously while I would like Elliott, my preferences would be either Lester and/or Lloyd.

Some experience down back is sorely needed.

Someone in the 23-25 age group who can lead and is simply team first. Does not have to be an A grade star.
