So I had a look through Carlton's list to see if there was anyone worth going after this year... They are screwed.
It’s WC though, yuck.Honestly if he refuses to "sacrifice" by playing for WC for a few years so he can be around his kids then the guy really needs to maybe do a bit of self-reflection
They can keep the mummy’s boyIf they pay half his salary i would love Cez running off half back.

I think Neale would be in the "getting as much money out of what's left of his career" stage so whichever club is going to offer him more dollars over the term of this last contract of his career will get him - he will say that he sees a flag chance with them but it's to be paid - and that's what he should do because even $400,000 a year is going to be exceptional security for his family into the future.
I just cant agree with this, everything he's earned as an 18 year elite AFL player is still in the family, just not all of it is with him.I think Neale would be in the "getting as much money out of what's left of his career" stage so whichever club is going to offer him more dollars over the term of this last contract of his career will get him - he will say that he sees a flag chance with them but it's to be paid - and that's what he should do because even $400,000 a year is going to be exceptional security for his family into the future.
Plus like, his kids havent lost any money really, just himThose $$$ aren't going to benefit his family if he is largely absent form their lives for 3-4 years and his relationship with them suffers which in turn has an adverse effect on their well being.

C'mon Taylor, it's completely different when Jules packs up and leaves compared to then having the option to be close to them but committing to live elsewhere instead for a few years and while I'm not across child support does it really change much based on how much the person is earning when they are earning at least 500k anyway. It's the same situation they are in right now, he is on the other side of the country, he isn't going to be seeing them every day because he isn't going to be living at home with them. From Jules' perspective, not intending to speak for her, but I think she'd prefer he was useful in bringing money in rather than not seeing his kids much and not bringing in money.
Once or twice a week is vastly better than none. I don't know how you can try to paint it as he'd be doing it in any way for them. It's grossHis great opportunity is West Coast, but even playing there he might only see his children once or twice a week. These guys have to be extremely selfish with their time to prepare their bodies and I don't know if she's going to be all that accommodating to him on a Tuesday afternoon when he has a few hours free.
I don't think the reality for those children changes all that much if he's playing AFL still and not living in their home.
We won that game against the Dogs after the start we gave them for precisely the same reason. Going through Bonts man. He may have got 30 and 2 but he could barely turn around let alone chase. He even had an 19 year old run off him out of the middle in scoring chains ffs.Do you remember that game against Melbourne, no not that game, the one at Optus where Viney played on Mundy and Barra just didn't have the legs to go with him, Melbourne looked for Viney every stoppage and he had a huge game primarily because Mundy had no capacity to defend?
That's what I expect from Neale. As far as purely offensive weapons go, Murphy Reid or Shai Bolton might offer more attack if you free them from worrying about their opponents. As might Hayden Young.
Matthew Johnson might even be a weapon purely attacking, not chasing his man.
Point is, if we are going to carry someone in there like we did with Fyfe and Mundy later, then we need them to be peak or they become a huge liability like Will Brodie. The change comes quickly too, and I suspect Neale will have crossed it by the time 2027 rolls around.
Let the Saints take him.
I couldn't conceive of it as a father.C'mon Taylor, it's completely different when Jules packs up and leaves compared to then having the option to be close to them but committing to live elsewhere instead for a few years and while I'm not across child support does it really change much based on how much the person is earning when they are earning at least 500k anyway.
This all ignores the point where WC would pay whatever anyone else is paying anyway, they have no one to pay and he's a FA.

Unless its some kind of Bell-Gero style deal where he is in Perth (skipping training) every second Monday and / or Tuesday or something it says something about him (or both indeed).
This 100%, I would never do what he did in the first place but where I did and my kid was ripped away from me because of my actions there is no world I'm committing to be away from them for another few years. Not that he'd give a shit for some keyboard warriors opinion but that'd be the final nail in the character test coffin for mine.I try to put myself in his position (just regarding location of kids not the other stuff). I cannot see a world where I would not come back to WA to be as close as possible. Success would be irrelevant and money only useful as far as it looks after the kids. Basically I would go to WC on as much as I could get out of them. He has admitted he let his family down, now he has an opportunity to start paying them back.
I honestly can not understand how you think that's the lesser of two evils. Do you not think WC would be interested?I don't think it's a choice for him, I think it's the lesser of two evils.

From reading their board, the general consensus is they'd be happy with it and I think generally BF posters make up like 90% of the hardcore footy fans that actually think and know something about footy. All the casuals would just jump on board as a dual brownlow medallist. Most importantly, given the club was happy to give up pick 14 (and break up 3) to get Liam Baker, I'm pretty sure they'd be ecstatic to get Neale for free.I think WC could have an off season where they lose Hewett, their #14 pick from 3 years ago, and replace him with Patrick Cripps and Lachie Neale. I think their supporters will burn the club down over it even if they rebound with competitive performances across 2027 because within two years both of those guys are done anyway.
As much as I think West Coast need a big body to slot in as their #1 mid, I don't think that's Neale.
Are the Eagles so desperate that they would buy Neale for a single year of better performances? Probably, but I don't think it will build their brand with their fans.
I think back to how the board here reacted when we brought over O'Meara, we had just won a final against the Dogs, but we were losing Mundy and filled the space with a nearly 29 year old - and our side were vastly better performed than the Eagles currently are. O'Meara is still young enough to be someone for us when we are competitive.
I think Eagles fans will rightly see Neale and or Cripps as being a temporary jump before all of Neale, Cripps, Kelly and Yeo are gone and the few years of finishing 10th have only yielded mediocre draft picks to rebuild from.
Lachie Neale for Freo might cause issues within the club. Lachie Neale at WC might cause issues for them outside the club.
Lachie in SA or Melbourne is no different to him being in Brisbane as he is now, I expect the Lions would offer him a contract to stay but not the sort of money that he could get elsewhere - so he should take the bigger money deal.
If that's at WC then it's great, but I think their supporters will upset about it. I don't particularly care if they are, but that would weigh into their discussions and it's why I think Neale to Perth has disappeared in the media discussion.

Remember the number one rule though. Don't get caught. This 100%, I would never do what he did in the first place but where I did and my kid was ripped away from me because of my actions there is no world I'm committing to be away from them for another few years. Given the Saint are restricted on their cap, I’d love a crack at Darcy Wilson…
He’s below the top rung of players on cost but he’d be very handy on our wing
Will have plenty of suitors i would think.
