One of the awards that is issued each season at Dragons FFC is the Coach's MVP. Each week Coach will cast votes based on who he thinks performs best on the qooty field. Raw statistics, positional dominance and big moments in the sim are taken into account, and Coach crunches the numbers with a complex algorithm to deal out 3-2-1 votes. Coach AceAndy still has the big job at the Dragons, despite an increasing reputation for sudden, strange onfield moves that either pay off brilliantly or end in total disaster, fast becoming known as Craaaaazy Andy, but after a premiership in season 32, understandably still has the keys to the machine that is the Dragons.
Coach's thoughts:
The week in the lead-up to facing the Furies on the Qooty field was an interesting one. Despite the repeated educational seminars on being QovidSafe, the team seemed to largely throw caution to the wind and insist on spending ample time with the Furies during the week, partying and sharing animes and memes and whatever else the young people do these days. In fact, word on the street is the #grandfinalrematch week was like none ever seen before in the history of Sweet, and even though many other teams from the outside looking in didn't seem to condone it, our Dragons and the Furies seemed to have the time of their lives. I have to commend both teams on this, even if I didn't understand half of what was going on.
All that said, a game of Qooty still took place and despite the week long love-in, someone had to run out the victor...

The Qooty gods were not so kind this week in terms of weather, as it was a rainy miserable day out there. Usually one could be forgiven for thinking this would result in a scrappy, hard to watch game but there was a pleasant surprise here - the game itself held up well, with plenty of scoring and some decent stats all round, which I guess was fitting for the week that was just had.
That said, it did take a good 8 minutes for a goal to be registered - thanks to one Pie 4 Life. The sides traded goal for goal for the next few scores, with the aforementioned Pie 4 Life snagging another and the big man Bonz kicking two of his own. We went into quarter time with a decent lead of 11 points.
For the second term, things started to take off for us. Although the Furies did manage one goal through Shadow Man, it was all the Dragons way. We kicked majors through Hatchy1992, Strigoi, Blaze Storm and yet another two goals from Bonz, which had us sitting very comfortably heading into the main break with a 38 point advantage. We're known for being a fast, high scoring side on our day and it was pleasing we were managing this in the wet.
The Furies hit back with an early major in the third quarter, and it took us a few minutes more to get one through the big sticks, but Knifey Spoony finally slotted another. T2B_, Hatchy1992 and Ljp86 all managed another major each, giving us a (then) game high advantage of 60 points, before the Furies did manage to kick three goals just before three quarter time.
In the final quarter, we re-applied the throttle and revved our engines high, defying the wet conditions as our midfield went to work and gave our forwards silver service. One of these said midfielders, DragoDelph, kicked off the quarter with a goal of his own almost instantly while Knifey Spoony, Bonz and Hatchy1992 all contributed up forward to give us a match high margin of 82 points and we were cruising. The Furies did snag two late majors through Rioli8217, but ultimately we ran out 71 point victors.
Despite the result, there were no sore losers. In fact the Furies happily went off with the team for a final hurrah at Crocodile Drunkees and I was left shaking my head as to just what this week had been, but all that said, as a coach I couldn't be prouder. A great Qooty performance and despite a somewhat shaky start to the year and a few disappointing results, one thing is clear: The Dragons are still a very, very good Qootball side.

Defender highlights: Matt_352 (4d, 1ff) might have only had the 4 touches, but defensively he was incredibly sound - playing 100% game time on the Furies CHF in Pickitt and keeping him to just 2 touches and no scoring shots. serial_thrilla (5d, 1m) was also very solid on the Furies FF in U2Tigers, limiting him to just 1 goal. Ashman OG (8d) also committed himself well; while his opponent in Dominic03 got a bit of ball, when matched up on TJASTA he kept the latter to absolute donuts (in every stat!).
Midfield highlights: DragoDelph (24d, 6m, 2t, 1g) once again put on a clinic - while not the highest midfielder in terms of fantasy points on the day, he torched his direct opponent in crazywildhorse. T2B_ (19d, 10t, 1g, 1b) had a tough day limiting his opponent in ImissFrosty, but was still solid and gave plenty of tackling power. Ljp86 (19d, 5t, 1g, 2b) was also very effective on the wing, offensively and defensively.
Forward highlights: After a quiet week in the previous game vs the Demons, Bonz (10d, 5g, 5b) was back somewhere close to his best, amassing a huge 10 scoring shots, just lacking a bit of accuracy on a wet day. Hatchy1992 (4d, 1m, 3g, 1b) was once again efficient with his touches and his partner in crime, Knifey Spoony (8d, 1m, 2g, 6b) did enough to get a Subway voucher, but amassed a super impressive 8 scoring shots himself.
