10 Finals Teams

Should the finals be changed from a top 8 to a top 10 system? It appears the AFL may be considering it!

Positives:
- more club supporters see finals
- more players play finals
- greater finals ticketing / corporate revenues
- greater tv rights revenues

Negatives:
- weaker finals series
- availability of suitable grounds (ie imagine a 9th placed Carlton v 10th placed Essendon at Etihad if the MCG is occupied.
- issues with team scheduling (ie 6 day breaks)

I am of the opinion a finals series should never have more than 50% of the competition, ideally less, because if you have a finals series where 60% of the competition makes it in then it completely devalues the home and away season.

I voted 6. 10 rewards mediocrity and so does 8 too an extent. Looks like a grab for more money by the AFL. One third, the best one third of the competition playing finals has always, at least too me, been the best arrangement.

If we wanted a higher standard of finals, we'd have 6 but clearly the AFL has to take commercial interests in to account. Leave it at 8.

If Melbourne were to finish 10th this year, I don't know how I'd feel about playing finals. Probably stoked, because it's been such a long time, but 10 out of 18 teams just seems ridiculous.

Leave it at 8.

Horrendous idea. Again its just the afl trying to extort more dollars out of the public. Anything and everything the afl does has a financial benfit behind it

Yep 8 is fine, 10 is ridiculous no one has won it out of the top 4 for years. So if anything 8 is too many.

I don't hear the fans complaining about the sport but obviously they are as no organisation in their right mind would keep trying to fix things that are not broken.
Can some Billionaire please form a breakaway league and rid us of these cowboys running the sport.
