That’s bad...8-12 weeks

Has a "high ankle" according to the presser which is code for that damned syndesmosis thing again.
It's pretty cool to think we're part of an exclusive group of people who know what the word syndesmosis means and how to spell it, only because we've been reading it regularly in the injury reports for the last 3 years 🙃

Just repeating here... Jon Ralph on Fox Footy just reporting both Shiel (knee) and Draper (syndesmosis) are likely 12-14 week injuries.

Getting back, getting match fit... you’re getting toward largely being able to write the season off for both.

2021 season can already get in the *in bin.

Running and increasing workloads.

Essendon ruckman Sam Draper has continued his positive rehabilitation from a syndesmosis injury suffered in round two.

The 205cm tall, who started 2021 as the Dons’ first-choice big man, sustained the severe ankle injury in the Bombers’ loss to Port Adelaide.

Head of high performance Sean Murphy said the 22-year-old had reached another major step in his rehabilitation, with Draper now running and increasing his workload.

“’Drapes’ is back running now and getting some volume into the legs,” Murphy told Dons Digital’s Liberty Financial Performance Update.

“He’s ticking all the boxes. The last couple of weeks, he’s been on a nice trajectory, so we’ll continue to build him up.”

Seems to be the good things about the syndesmosis.

It seems like the fracture is clean and it seems to repair well (even it's painful and results in a long lay off).

Sounds like he's on for a return after after the bye with maybe a slight chance to be available for Richmond prior to the bye.
That said I don't think he's so far above Phillips and Bryan that he should come straight back in after missing 10 weeks without a VFL game. Plus I'd be worried about his chance of reinjury.
