I tried not to use recycled players just the youngsters and tried to play them as close to a natural possie as possibe. Couldn't possibly fill the '05 lineup yet given theirs so many still to play.

I would rate them

1 = 2001
2 = 2004
3 = 2003
4 = 2002
2005 undecided.

2004

FB: James Gwilt, Jarrod Roughead, Chris Knights
HB: Ryan Griffen, Matthew Egan, Chris Egan
C: Matt Rosa, Justin Sherman, Jordan Russell

Van Berlo and Knights should both be named in the middle, I know it's a minor thing but they are a long way ahead of Sherman and Russell.

Pretty poor crop of mids came through in 2001, was there just something in the water at draft camp that has made them struggle in the big leagues?

Good effort, But I think you'd struggle to find 22 people who think Polak is a better FB than Brian Harris.

Club bias and all.

Look at the goods in the 2001 draft! It will go down as one of the best drafts in history I think -

Judd, Ablett, Bartel, Hodge - all in the top 10 in the competition IMO
Swan, Mitchell, Dal Santo - top 20
And the majority of the rest in the top 50 - 80

Unbelievable draft talent wise.

Very good effort.

But surely Leigh Montagna, who is averaging over 22 disposals, would probably be leading St Kilda's B&F and is possibly the only player on our list who will kick long to a forward, would get a game in the 2001 team ahead of LRT, Miller, Hansen, Medhurst and Hale. I know that they are different players, but there is a BIG gap in quality.

Would make some positional changes to the 2005 team

FB: Paddy Ryder, Wayde Mills, Sam Gilbert
HB: Grant Birchall, Shannon Hurn, Nathan Jones
C: Clint Bartram, Andrew Swallow, Travis Vacore
HF: Dale Thomas, Mitch Clark, Rhan Hooper
FF: Joel Patful, Josh Kennedy, Cleve Hughes
R: Robert Warnock, Marc Murphy, Scott Pendlebury
I: Shaun Higgins

FB: Sam Gilbert, Wayde Mills, Grant Birchall
HB: Clint Bartram, Paddy Ryder, Shannon Hurn
C: Dale Thomas, Andrew Swallow, Nathan Jones
HF: Travis Vacoe, Cleve Hughes, Shaun Higgins
FF: Joel Patful, Mitch Clark, Rhan Hooper
R: Robert Warnock, Marc Murphy, Scott Pendlebury
I: Dylan Addison, Josh Kennedy, Courtenay Dempsey, Jay Neagle

(I don't include Justin Sweeney, but I guarantee that he will be in everyone's side by half way through 2008, and possibly by the end of this year)

pffft Montagna is a dime and dozen midfielder, the only reason he looks competent is because of the BIG gap in quality between the Saints 4th best midfielder and the rest.

Ever seen him play?

This year is averaging 23.8 disposals, 5.8 marks, 0.4 goals, 3.8 tackles and after missing just two weeks with a broken jaw he's had 27 and 33 disposals in the past fortnight.

Great skills, great pace, very consistent and is a lot more physical than in past years. Has basically become an onballer since we always have one of Hayes/Ball/Harvey out injured.

Shane Birss is a dime a dozen midfielder. Leigh Montagna is a gun.

Andrew Raines would be in the 2003 one and Dean Polo is way better than Danny Meyer in the 2004 draft.

Great effort putting this together :thumbsu: Pretty accurate

Not a bad effort overall.

In relation to the 2004 team, I'd stick Simon Taylor at least on the bench, if not first ruck. Has played every game this season, unlike Cameron Wood.

Max Bailey could go on your 2005 team's bench as second ruckman (played a few games last year).

Also, it's "Jared Brennan" and "Jarryd Roughead".

I reckon Steve Salopek has got to be ahead of at least half of that team.

NO! He is hopeless, and the ONLY thing he has ever done of note is kick 5 goals against Cooney in SA. I think Raines would definately have to be in the side. I think you might have got Sansbury's name because he does well in dream team, but as a North supporter I can assure you that he isn't any good.
