Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

given the performances of pendlebur and thomas this year and the imporovement from murphy shown in the first 2 games i think everyone (even if they are too scared to admit it) deep down would now agree murphy is the best player from this draft.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Obviously bias but look out for Higgins in the middle eventually. Learning that he isn't in the U-14's where he is the star who doesn't have to tackle and man up ect. Also working on endurance.

Compared with Ben Cousins (on field:p) very often

By the end of this season everyone will agree with me Birchall should have been #1,

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

I find it interesting that some people are putting Birch ahead of Ellis

definitely birch ahead of ellis at the moment.
birchall has established himself as an automatic selection - smart, well-built, versatile, and quite durable. also some scope for further development of style and role.
if you were doing the draft again now, you could be quite confident that birchall will play 200 games, and be one of the better players in most teams over that journey. a bird in the hand...

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Ryder number 1 for mine, keeps improving rapidly.

No doubt, one of the youngest drafted, and one with greatest potential. His game against Geelong was awesome. Considering the amount of inside 50s Geelong had, he easily beat the All Australian CHF in Mooney. He kicked only 2 goals when Geelong kicked 22. And he can play anywhere on the ground. A ruckman, who at times even takes our kick outs. Only Cox can do that.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

i'll have a crack at the first 10:
1-murphy
2-pendlebury
3-ryder
4-thomas
5-birchall
6-jones
7-higgins
8-hurn
9-swallow
10-clark

Clark! All potential. Cameron Stokes on the other hand dominated on the weekend and deserves a spot in the top 10.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

A lot of these guys actually went pretty high up, proving that recruiting seems to be getting better. In the past the order has been all over the place. Correct me if I'm wrong but in the last list Swallow was the only one that didn't go top 15, despite being very highly rated beforehand.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

1 (1) Marc Murphy
2 (5) Scott Pendlebury
3 (2) Dale Thomas
4 (12) Nathan Jones
5 (13) Shannon Hurn
6 (7) Patrick Ryder
7 (42) Robert Warnock
8 (11) Shaun Higgins
9 (14) Grant Birchall
10 (15) Travis Varcore
11 (43) Andrew Swallow
12 (61) Matthew Stokes
13 (33) Sam Gilbert
14 (60) Clint Bartram
15 (9) Mitch Clark
16 (4) Josh Kennedy
17 (3) Xavier Ellis
18 (36) Jake Edwards
19 (10) Marcus Drum
20 (41) Rhan Hooper

Found it alot harder then i thought it would be but if you dont see it being right make your own i know a few Hawthorn supporters will fine this interesting

Hurn, Warnock, Higgins all higher then Birchall. I laugh.

Even Ryder's questionable. Birchall's been a stalwart for over a season now. Mind you those two will probably become matchwinners as opposed to Birchalls consistent composed performances downback.

Out of the ones you've chosen this would be a more accurate listing:

(1) Marc Murphy
(5) Scott Pendlebury
(12) Nathan Jones
(2) Dale Thomas
(14) Grant Birchall
(7) Patrick Ryder
(11) Shaun Higgins
(61) Matthew Stokes
(43) Andrew Swallow
(3) Xavier Ellis
(60) Clint Bartram
(13) Shannon Hurn
(33) Sam Gilbert
(41) Rhan Hooper
(42) Robert Warnock
(15) Travis Varcore
(9) Mitch Clark
(4) Josh Kennedy
(36) Jake Edwards
(10) Marcus Drum

The top 7 or so are close and could be shuffled around a few different ways.

At the end height of their careers I think the likes of Hurn, Ellis, Ryder and even Higgins will move right up to the top of the list with Murphy and Pendlebury.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

ROLFCOPTER:D:D

BTW - Swallow ahead of Ryder.

Bahaha. You have laugh at the suggestion Birchall's been one of the top 5 of the draft so far, which he has. Quite easily I might add.

Then you have the audacity to claim Swallow's better then Ryder?

I question your existence.

Ryder questionable over Birchall? You're havin' a laugh!

Last season Ryder stepped up and showed his ability and he gets better every game this season. Right now I would put him equal with Murphy and Pendlebury at #1.

He will be the best player from this draft.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

no really i admire jones for his hardness at the ball and his work in and under the packs but his disposal is shocking. i guess it doesnt help playing for melbourne but really hes gotta do a lot of work on his disposal by foot and hand.

Out in space his disposal is good, I've watched him a few times. But he does seem to play a bit of the oldschool pack-snap style of footy. But like you said when there's nothing much to actually kick too I guess just moving the ball forward is all you can do.

Once Cale Morton finds his feet I think they'll strike a very good partnership up, with Jones (and McLean) feeding him the ball.

How is it not?

If we're going on performances to date, Birchall should very well be top. Last season he averaged over 20 touches, and had a fantastic efficiency. He rebounded beautifully and bombed it forwards with aplomb and shut opponents out of the game. He looked like he's a 100 game veteran, so seemless was his transition. (his first season was very good too)

He is certainly ahead of thost players ATM. But like I said, I suspect Ryder will shoot right up the list in the end.

at least dees supporters have that to look forward to, sounds quite promising.
