Draft Review 2007 - Redo the 2007 Draft

Being named in the bests is simply one persons opinion, no idea why you value it highly. Bellchambers beat Maric, Jacobs, Goldstein and Kreuzer as a sole ruck, whether he was named in the best in an article which shows the views of one person is not much evidence.

Jacobs - 13 disposals, 6 marks, 40 hit outs - 99 dream team points
Belly - 8 disposals, 2 marks, 46 hitouts - 81 dream team points

Jacobs got handed a lesson!!

2 marks..........

Belly - 11 disposals, 3 marks, 1 clearance, 26 hit outs, 69 dream team points

You guys are in laa laa land. Beat Maric.

Anyway enough of this rubbish on an average ruckman - lets have a look at the correct order of the 2007 draft:

1) Cotchin
2) Dangefield
3) Walker
4) Rioli
5) Taylor
6) Ward
7) Kreuzer
8) S Selwood
9) Ebert
10) Grimes
11) Thompson
12) Rance
13) Maston
14) McEvoy
15)Mayne

You are assuming Bellchambers does not go backward.

Ryder is 12-15 best ruckman in the AFL. Do you have him is the top 3?

It's true, he could. In the scenario he goes forward he may surpass Goldy.
Absolutely don't rate Ryder top 3. A little bit irrelevant because I don't rate Goldy anywhere near there. Frustrating, however, because Ryder has potential to be No. 1. Just a lazy pr!ck at times.

I went to a richmond recruiting night about a week before the 2007 draft, where all the recruiting staff go through players they are looking at picking up and profile the likely candidates.

Cotchin was always going to be the pick however the other player they were seriously looking at was cale morton... i shudder to think if we went morton instead..

Tambling over Buddy, Fiora over Pav and Morton over Cotchin. Wow - that could have been so cruel.

To be fair to Richmond, Pav was a real porker as a kid and Tambling was highly rated. That is the flip side with high picks, you have the weight of expectation to make the best choice, clubs with lesser picks can take the risks or get sliders and often do better.

I see what you did there.

Nice work Chewy, just add Scott Selwood to that list of B&F winners.
Cheers, I knew left something out...

Interesting that many folks have Cyril Rioli as their 5th or 6th pick. Some even have him at 9th or 10th. His record stacks up as good as any from the 2007 draft, but apparently he is "overrated" and "inconsistent". :D. There is a school of thought that he may have peaked already. I don't think so. He has never quite had the body (hamstrings) right. I think his best is yet to come.

People have graded Kreuzer harshly (based on his production from 2008-2012) but they elevate players ahead of Rioli who've achieved less. If we're ignoring the "runs on the board" and still judging players by their upside, then you'd be crazy to leave Kreuzer outside your top 7 or 8.

There are 4 (maybe 5) match-winners in the 2007 draft class: Cotchin, Dangerfield, Rioli and Walker. Kreuzer has shown he can grab a gam by the scruff of the neck, but only fleetingly.

My top 20 revisited...

1. Cotchin
2. Dangerfield
3. Rioli
4. Walker
5. Kreuzer
6. Selwood
7. Mumford
8. Taylor
9. Ward
10. Henderson
11. McEvoy
12. Rance
13. Grimes
14. Thompson
15. Ebert
16. Masten
17. Mayne
18. Hanley
19. Grant (12 months ago, I would've had him 10 spots higher)
20. Whitecross

I also think Rioli is judged too harsh. He is a fantastic talent and your B&f results reflect this. So how do you rate Henderson above Thompson. Thompson has 2 runners up and Henderson has never made a top 10. Thompson was incredibly stiff not to make the AA squad and he is now a very good back men.

Henderson has had the tougher initiation into the AFL. Expected to fill in for the injured J Brown at Brisbane and then seen as Fevola's logical replacement at Carlton. He has only really settled into the key defensive post over the past 2 seasons (and then he got injured.)

Maybe I'm overrating Henderson slightly, but I think he has shown he will develop into one of the top backs in the AFL. His good games have been great. I like his style.

Thompson has been more settled down back and probably done more in his first 5 seasons, but I'd prefer to have Henderson in my team. He is just taking a little bit longer.

Jarrad Grant won't be on an AFL list next year. He is terrible.
It's 5 years ago, so the club who has had the most games played by the 2007 draft group won the draft.

Yeah the 2007 draft was one that Collingwood got pretty much nothing out of. Traded the first pick for Cam Wood, got John McCarthy, that's about it.

Wow - a draft like that could really set a team back. Lucky your team can identify good talent at other clubs.

Games played is a decent guide, but not the whole story. If you got a star such as Rioli and nothing else but role players it's still a successful draft.
