Didnt get enough feedback from draft and trades forum. Looking to gain further insight.
If you were starting a fresh team, which 1st & 2nd round combo would you prefer and why?
As Crows supporters would you trade our combination for any other?

1. Melbourne -- Jack Watts & Sam Blease
2. West Coast Eagles -- Nicholas Naitanui & Luke Shuey
3. Fremantle -- Stephen Hill & Hayden Ballantyne
4. Port Adelaide -- Hamish Hartlett & Jackson Trengove
5. Essendon -- Michael Hurley & David Zaharakis
6. Carlton -- Chris Yarran & Warnock
7. Brisbane Lions -- Daniel Rich & Jack Redden
8. Richmond -- Tyrone Vickery & Jaydyn Post
9. North Melbourne -- Jack Ziebell & Samuel Wright
10. Adelaide -- Phil Davis & Shaun McKernan
11. Collingwood -- Steele Sidebottom & Dayne Beams
12. Sydney -- Lewis Johnston & Daniel Hannebery
13. St Kilda -- Tom Lynch & Farren Ray
14. Western Bulldogs -- Ayce Cordy & Jordan Roughead
15. Geelong -- Mitchell Brown & Thomas Gillies
16. Hawthorn -- Ryan Schoenmakers & Liam Shiels

* Probably not fair to consider WC and Melb given thier first picks are standouts from this draft.
In my opinion if Trengrove isnt injury prone then i think Port are winners.
However if he injury prone as is touted, i like North. Both of their boys will be outstanding. Crows (bias) got 2 KPP stars.

Therefore:
1- Port;
2-North;
3-Crows.

I'd also take our combination in the 2009 and 2010 drafts before anyone else:rolleyes:

Seriously, while they look promising, it's way too early for the premature ejaculation threads you've started here and on the main board.

Id say the Crows would be #1. CHF & CHB. Id have the Bulldogs up there too, if both of those come on.

I really like the look of both North boys. Essendon have done really well, Hurley was looking great before he got struck down with injury. While we don't need midfielders, the Pies have done extremely well picking up 2 great players.

Looking at that list, there doesn't seem to be to many bad players haha! What a draft!
While I havent seen any of our boys, apart from the SANFL vids, they seem to get good reports from everyone who has seen them in the flesh.

I think you need to leave this thread for 5 years to see if the kids develop as planned. Every team has its own shortcomings to be addressed as draft priorities. We went tall, others went small. What's right for someone else isn't necessarily right for us.

Until the kids have had time and opportunity to prove themselves we have no valid point of reference.

:thumbsu::thumbsu:Agree 100%

Way too early to know.

i dont think you got much feedback because nobody took it seriously with you picking crows at 3, without either of them playing an AFL game.

on this seasons form, i dont see how anyone could argue with North, Essendon and Collingwood being the top 3.

Bit early to make a call seeing as a good chunk of those draftees haven't played yet. Have to say though that Naitanui looks like an athletic freak after watching him against Richmond.

Very hard to say this early. For example we're pretty chuffed with Davis and Smack but that's cause we know what they've been doing at sanfl level. I wouldn't have a clue how the other draftees from other clubs who are yet to debut at afl level are doing at their respective wafl / vfl etc side.

I saw this thread on the main board and then went and had a look at the 2007 draft under this criteria.

For us Danger and Otten look to be one of the better 1st and 2nd round combos with Hawthorns Rioli / Whitecross combo and Richmonds Cotchin / Rance combo right up there as well.

Recruiting certainly looking good at this very early stage.

Yes, I think this exercise would be better suited to the 2007 draft, not 2008.

FWIW 2007 draft

Adelaide: Dangerfield, Otten
Richmond: Cotchin, rance
West Coast: Masten, Ebert (extra first rounder), Notte
Melbourne: Morton, Grimes (extra first rounder) Maric
Bulldogs: Grant, Ward
Essendon: Myers, Pears
Freo: Palmer, Hinkley
Brisbane: Henderson, Collier
St Kilda, McEvoy, no second rounder
Sydeny: Vezpremi, Meredith
Hawthron: Rioli, Whitecross
North Melbourne: Tarrant, Greenwood
Port: Lobbe, M Motlop
Geelong: Taylor, Simpson

Reckon Adelaide, Richmond and Hawks in front at this stage with Melbourne and West Coast looking good due to the extra first rounder.
Obviously the taller players are going to take longer to develop though.

What about Carlton? Didn't they get Kreuzer at no. 1 and then traded a few picks for Judd. That would have to be up there wouldn't it? Adelaide's picks do look Delicious though :D:D!

Oops forgot Carlton. Don't know how I could have possibly done that:D

Guess it would just be Kreuzer for them.

Hard to believe people would be saying the Crows yet. I mean, Davis and McKernan are looking the goods so far but they really haven't proven much yet.

Sidebottom and Beams have both shown something which is nice for Collingwood but as people have said, it's almost impossible to judge at this stage.

For the 07 draft, we're looking pretty good with both Dangerfield and Otten playing some nice footy and looking good for the future. I think we're the only club to have received RS nominations for both our first and second round pick in the 07 draft so far :D

How could you possibly look past Cotchin & Rance in 2007 for half a second? So many clubs ranked Rance very highly, but by some freak of mathematics he was just one or two picks behind every clubs best available at the time. He could have gone as high as #5 if the Dogs didn't get Grant according to Quayle's book.

Anyway, let's wait 5 years on this one.

We've definitely done well from this draft. (though neither of our players have played a game yet).
Essendon did well with Hurley and Zaharakis.
Ziebell and Wright were good picks for Kangas.
Beams and Sidebottom have both come in and done pretty well.
Hawks have gotten good value considering they had the worst picks of anyone.
Freo were the real winners though. Hill's a definite player and Ballantyne will be once he gets over his injuries.

To me Sydney did the worst.
Carlton haven't done very well either. Yarran won't be another Rioli like he was built up to be. Warnock definitely wasn't worth a second rounder.

Let's face it though, Sydney supporters would say the same thing about us. Rendell rated Johnston extremely highly (4th I think). Just because we haven't seen them yet doesn't really mean that much.

Yarran is a year away from really being AFL fit. He could still be anything.

As for Warnock, probably not but then ruckmen always seem to go at a higher price than seems reasonable.

Not at this stage, according to Leigh Matthews tonight.

Quite cruelly, but probably correctly, he said that he had seen nothing in Watts in 2 games to date to suggest why he was number 1 in the draft. Nothing.

While it's far too early to write any young player off there's also no logic in in rating the Melbourne pair #1 at this stage.

I certainly wouldn't swap our pair for their pair.
