List Mgmt. 2009 trade week discussion

To put it all in perspective, we either give up Mummy or one from our best 22 squad. I'm disappointed to lose him, because we haven't seen the boundaries of his potential yet, but it's a small price to pay to keep the rest of the team intact. We'll have to go on our merry way finding more gems. (Damn we're too good at doing that.)

Also, I don't think we'll be able to win a premiership without Blake next year, and our window hasn't closed yet.

I'd say we will have to lose both (mummy and someone from, or close to, our best 22) to free up salary cap room. Mumford isn't exactly commanding huge coin at GFC right now....

Mumford seems certain to go, but sadly i don't think that will save Wojo.

Considering next years negotiations with Ablett and Selwood, you would think Geelong need as much room as possible.

Yeah that's the worst thing in all this. We are losing a semi-established player... but he is playing on a rookie salary, effectively creating no space in our cap! He was the worst player to lose in terms of space gained:talent lost ratio I'd say.

Yep, i agree.

Having said that, i guess the club would have factored their new offer to Mumford into cap calculations (which would have been higher than Rookie salary, obviously).

But whatever the case, we are about to lose a future senior player, and not free up any substantial room in the cap. Which is why Wojo must surely be on his way to NMFC.

From the outside looking in, it seems you have dropped the ball with the King/Blake/Mumford situation.

I reckon you should have shopped around Blake at the start of the week to Port, who are desperate for a ruckmen. Gave Mumford the 2nd ruck position and he probably would have stayed and had a crack at a premiership. You guys effectively pushed him another ruckmen out for Blake.

Port's 2nd pick + 4th pick for Blake, freeing up another 150k? per year.

Whats the go with Trent West? Didn't you guys want to trade him instead?

Let's remember not all truth gets reported in the media, so there's nothing to say the club didn't shop Blake to Port and they just said NO.

I suspect West will stay now Mummy is going.

Nope. But as i said if we get anything for him thats great.

And with Mumford going its now more likely that he will be traded to you guys for either #33 (unlikely) #49 (probably) #65 (what's the point really?)

IMO. But anything could happen i guess.

Agreed...49 for Drum is the max we should offer.

If we do it for 65 I will be impressed :thumbsu:

What will we get for Mumford?

Sydney's 2nd rounder seems far too cheap and it's pretty unlikely pick 14 will be on the cards.

I'd be interested in Daniel O'keefe which Sydney are close to delisting (geelong boy, outside mid that went 1st round in 06).

If I were Geelong I'd chase:
Sydney: 14 + 29 + Daniel O'keefe
for
Geelong: 17 + Mumford

So we gain:
- An upgrade of 3 in the first round
- A 2nd round pick
- A promising Geelong boy on his last chance

Pretty sure it would be via the PSD before we would take 65.

Keep in mind Sydney are allegedley trying to get Kennedy and McGlynn from the Hawks for a pick - presumably 14. At this stage I'd be hoping for a straight swap, Mumford for their second rounder.

How about Mumford + 33 in return for 14?

Given Mumford's upside and the recent young ruck trade precedents - see Cameron Wood last year and Seaby this year - thats surely a fair price?

Citing Wood as a precedent is awry because Collingwood were laughed at for paying well over the odds for him. If the reports are to be believed the Swans have traded one of the top 3 rucks in the comp for picks 14 and 49. I think that's a better indicator of what we're likely to get for Mumford than what went down in 2007.

I like what DanA suggested about Guy O'Keefe.

How about;

Geelong > Sydney: Mumford, pick 17 and possibly pick 33

Sydney > Geelong: G. O'Keefe, pick 14 and possibly pick 28

An impartial or Sydney supporter will say that is asking too much, but if Sydney are willing to offer him $1m for 3 years then the obviously rate him and therefore will have to pay for him. We have been really good to other clubs in terms of giving away 'left overs' for nothing (Chambers, Spriggs, King, Charlie Gardiner e.t.c, e.t.c) that I think its time we say pay up or we will let him walk. In the end he was a rookie, didn't cost us anything really so just let him find his way into the PSD and end up at Richmond.

Guy O'Keefe is average.

How about Mumford for Lewis Johnston :D

Sadly I don't think I will ever see my man LJ in a Geelong jumper :(

We talking about Guy (the Dog) or Dan (the Swan) here...? Well I guess it's irrelevant as both are pretty average.

LJ should be starting next to White in the forward line come round 1 next year.

Not sure what will happen with Mumford. If I were in your shoes I'd probably want more than pick 28, so it will be interesting to see what happens. A deal has been agreed for Jolly to go to Collingwood but apparently he isn't being released until we get Mumford or another replacement.

Both TBH, but it was said about Guy. Daniel has been to injured to make any real assessment.

I wonder what it would take for Veszpremi? Maybe he wants to come home? $$ would be a problem though :thumbsd:

Will be great to see :thumbsu: Last year I adopted LJ as the bloke I wanted at Geelong. Was shattered when you guys took him!!

Still clinging to the dream rizzo?

Maybe we can do a three way deal....Mumford to Sydney for LJ and they send their third rounder to Port, who send us Broadbent. The Potential Draftee Thread would melt down :p

How are they worth pick 14? I think 20 would be paying over the odds for them

Would this board explode with man love if we both got our men? :D
