doesn't sound serious at all, but with who it is, we have to hold our breath.

The fact he stayed out walking laps is the sign they didn't think too much of it. And he would be the one they would be most worried about surely.

It's when they are straight off the training track where you have to worry.

Oh for fu-

Gumbleton to miss Friday's clash as a precaution

"He (Gumbleton) was pretty locked up yesterday but was out there this morning walking better and the medical staff put some work through him and he had a smile on his face this morning so we are aiming for the seconnd round.

Link.

Sounds pretty minor, but ****ing hell.:(:thumbsd:

"Jason Winderlich copped a heavy knock last season and had a back spasm and three or four days later he freed up pretty well we are hoping this is along the same lines as he came back and played pretty well during the season."

Yeh we are all hoping...... FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, it happened yesterday, but he was back out there today doing the laps.

That makes me feel MUCH better.

Anything serious would have been discovered by now.

Right thing to pull him out - IMO anybody with any sort of complaint shouldnt be playing at this stage.

Seriously, this is getting a bit beyond a joke...

He also said further analysis of Winderlich's back injury had confirmed it was not related to the split disc that nearly ended his career last year.

"He's freed up really well in the last seven days, and he walked around last week putting his hand up for selection, but that's just Jason," Knights said.

"It was just a very bad back spasm, it just locked up, but he's freed up terrifically well. That was our concern initially, that it was linked to the other injury, but that wasn't the case.

"We feel really confident he's going to be fine long term, but we won't be taking any risks with him in the short term."

Some notes when a similar thing happened to winders at the start of 2009 season.

I'm not sure how I read this without throwing my computer screen out the window. If he's not cursed then no one is.

Hate to be negative but given his history this is not good. We can only cross our fingers when it comes to Gumby.

This sums up my response to Gumbleton's injury.

Hahahahhahaha. My heart sank when I saw the red cross next to "Gumbleton"...

But this video brought a smile to my face. Perfect timing Godzke! :D

As for his Gumby's back, they say it was a minor spasm, similar to the one Winders had at the start of last year's season. They decided to take it slowly, and hopefully reap the rewards later on... and it worked out beautifully. So I'm thinking this is a routine they're doing... it's something they've gotten used to. You'd imagine they would have played him in Round 1 of the NAB cup had they not had a good experience with Winder's similar niggle.

SO... I'm backing Essendon FC on this. I wouldn't play him either, leave him for Round 2 of the NAB cup, or Round 1 of the season proper.

The ONLY seriously bad thing we get out of this, is the fact that we now have to beat West Coast (and should) to see him play. I think we were all looking forward to watching him take pack marks and kick a couple goals EARLIER... but this Friday will have to tide us over until then. But yeah, not a good track record. Someone must have a Gumby voodoo doll out there methinks. ;)

All the best to the kid, and I'm sure running today is a sign that things will get better. Hopefully it doesn't ruin his confidence, but I think kicking 2 goals and performing well at the intra-club match will back that up. :)

They are comparing this injury to Winderlich's back spasm last year against Richmond I think it was when he copped a very heavy hit.

Winderlich missed a game and was noticably slower and half the player he was for the rest of the season. This is very worrying news!
