Norm Smith Medallist
If Carlton were prepared to release McLean and pay most of his salary, then surely something would have been worked out in trade week? That way they could kept O'Alphin on their list. Do not want.

Gerard Healy on AW said 'whispers' reckons Brock McLean could be delisted by Carlton and picked up by you guys with Carlton paying the majority of his contract.
Surely you guys wouldn't be that stupid!
They would have to pay every cent of his current contract if this was the case.

guess we'll be reading 'pick 19 s.ross' a lot over the next few weeks
is he any good
As per Knightmare's analysis, id be happy to get him at pick 31, seems to have the inner belief to imrpove himself, thats half the battle
Snoops Mock is of a similar thinking. Could maintain our good form on 2nd rounders.![]()
D). With list lodgement 1 almost upon us (31st October), it is looking increasingly likely that we are not going to be making any more changes to our list.Daniel Markworth (Calder Cannons / 189 / 76 / 92)
Was keen to slot Markworth a touch earlier than this. Is a class act and will appeal to recruiters because he ticks a lot of boxes. He is a gifted athlete who tested very well and he combines it with a lot of the ingredients you would want.
Quick, good in traffic, efficient by hand and foot and can play fwd or middle. He hasn’t played a heap of footy compared tot the other draftees and he just showed amazing improvement all year. I saw a few of his games and he was real good at the end of the season and would have to go pretty high I would think.
Will play as a wing / HF I suspect at VFL level before being given a taste of senior footy at some stage but he needs to add some more muscle to the frame.
AFL Comparison – Nat Fyfe but I wouldn’t say he is quite at his level at the same age.
Elliott Kavanagh (Western Jets / 187 / 78 / 93)
Many wouldn’t have seen Kavanagh this year because he was injured through champs but if you had seen him last year you would have been impressed.
If he lived up to last year’s form he would probably be a top 6 or 7 selection. He is a natural footballer and just seems to read the game so well. Terrific height, very good speed, one touch and also uses it very well.
Sounds perfect doesn’t he and could well be a steal here. I did look at a few others here but ultimately decided on this kid because he probably shouldn’t be this low.
AFL Comparison – Bryce Gibbs
Taylor Adams (Falcons / 181 / 80 / 93)
Just a lovely player is Taylor Adams and apparently has many admirers in club land. AIS kid and he is a class act because he ticks nearly every box there is.
Seen him so many times in traffic and yet he always seems to evade capture and execute to advantage. His hands in close are an absolute treat and he just strikes me as a kid who will get better and better in a club development programme.
Can also play out of the contest and uses the ball at an elite level by foot as well. Is a natural leader from what have been told and is a kid you would want in your football environment for sure.
AFL Comparison – Trent Cotchin or Jim Bartel
Brandon Ellis (Calder Cannons / 181 / 83 / 93)
Love watching this kid because I think he just oozes class and will step up into an AFL environment and make a really seamless transition. He just looks like a footballer and I suspect recruiters love his poise, strength on his feet, safe hands, kicking and decision making.
He just doesn’t seem to make mistakes. Doesn’t have elite speed and I think that is why he drops a bit but I have had him as high as 15 at stages.
Could well go into the middle as well in later years as he tested pretty well. Lovely pick because he is that Chris Newman type who sits behind the footy and just controls the back half.
AFL Comparison – Chris Newman
Zyrus (Waylen) Manson (Claremont / 195 / 80 / 93)
Granted the risks around this kid seem real from what those who are in the know tell me but in these things you can only go on potential and talent......and this kid has a full house!
Freakish talent who I have seen a fair bit of now and whilst there are huge issues with elements of his game (fwd pressure would be one) the positives are very good.
He is his own highlight reel and just seems to read the ball so well. Couples that with a desire to play in front and his huge leap and you have a kid who if he can build a motor and add some weight will be nigh impossible to stop.
It’s a risk but its one these blokes should take because they will never live it down if they pass him onto Fremantle. He could bloody anything this kid. In his 2 Colts games he had 30 touches and 21 of them were scores (12g 9). He has then gone up to play for the Waratahs in the NT and absolutely dominated (28 goals in 3 games....remember he is 17).
He has great hands, he gets in front so the umps look after him and he finishes pretty well albeit can look a bit lazy at times. He needs a lot of work but risk reward could be massive. I don’t have much doubt he can step up. Eagles will pounce if Dockers baulk.
AFL Comparison – you know who I am talking about......#23!
Sebastian Ross (North Ballarat / 187 / 82 / 93)
Really surprised he doesn’t get discussed a bit more but a terrific prospect who just loves his footy and I think he could be a steal this late in the draft.
Probably best suited to a HB or wing where he can use his run and his foot skills. Works hard across the ground and is capable of winning his own ball or being a link up player.
I think the importance of spread and repeat running works well in his favour because when you watch him he runs both ways and can work deep into the fwd line. Terrific size for a midfielder to and could see him being given a run in the NAB Cup for sure.
AFL Comparison – Nick Suban
Sam Kerridge (Bendigo / 188 / 83 / 93)
Was very highly rated coming into this years draft and was one who probably didn’t quite live up to expectations through the year.
IN saying that he certainly had a pretty good end to the season and was rewarded with a couple of senior games where he performed really well. Tall athletic sort of player who accumulates the footy and has a fair bit of class.
AFL Comparison – Michael Barlow
Elliott Yeo (East Fremantle / 188 / 82 / 93)
Been watching this kid for most of the year and I think he presents as a really good mid range pick.
Has terrific height for a midfielder and whilst he doesn’t have a really big standout attribute he ticks all your boxes for a developing midfielder.
Tested incredibly well and stands over 6 foot and whilst pretty light at the moment has the build to bulk up a bit. He is a really smooth mover who has time in his decision making and executes off hand and foot really efficiently. Has had a terrific year where he averaged over 20 touches, 1 goal, 3 marks and 4 tackles per game……he contributes all over the field.
Kid could go a lot higher than this and would be a steal around here.
AFL Comparison – Dayne Beams
Jason Williams (VIC – Mid)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB:
Player comparison: Clinton Young
Profile: Having a disappointing year by his standard. Coming into the season was regarded one of the better talents in this year’s draft but has really fallen down the rankings fast. Tall wingman type. Very agile and has nice pace. Has been very inconsistent and needs to give effort more consistently because when he is on he can play some high level football. Strong mark overhead. Tackling can be good when effort is there. Skill level good, but poor decision maker.
Danny Butcher (Gippsland Power)
Height: 183cm Weight: 73kg DOB: 22/1/1993
Younger brother of Port Adelaide's John, finished runner up in the Morrish medal after a stellar finish to the year. An old fashioned type footballer who simply gets the job done.
Works hard on the inside and thrives on the contested ball, is an outstanding individual who could thrive in that full time enviroment.
Haiden Schloithe (WA - Fwd)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 16/06/1993
Recruited from: South Fremantle Football Club
Style: Mark LeCras
Profile: Really good user of the footy. Looks dangerous whenever he gets near it. Good reader of the play. Has that radar where he just knows exactly where the goals are. Tackling good. Looks incredibly draftable. Has really impressed me and stood out in the couple of games I’ve seen of him. Can play up the field but just love what I’ve seen of him as a forward!
John McKenzie
Height: 178cm, 79kg, 3/6/1993
Recruited from: South Launceston
Profile: Outstanding young man who led the Tasmanian side in the National Championships this year. Despite his size, Mckenzie has good hands in close and his kicking seems to be good enough. Could play a variety of roles at AFL level if given the chance.
Cameron Valentine (VIC – Fwd)
Height: 191cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 02/11/1993
Recruited from: Bendigo Pioneers
Player comparison: Jeremy Howe
Profile: Young forward who has missed some time through illness. Has even played some ruck and competed well but won’t at next level. Strong marking forward with an incredibly good leap and can take some absolute hangers.
Has a high work rate which allows him to make those multiple leads. Also a really nice contested mark. Takes it at the highest point which is what you look for in any forward. Skill level very good. Very draftable.
Steve Rusca (SA – Def/Mid)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 24/06/1993
Recruited from: Central District
Profile: Is that smaller type. But can play down back and rotate into the midfield. Work rate good.
Skill level very good. Always composed and makes good decisions. Big accumulator. Good run and carry play who gives good drive from the back half.
Luke Wilson (174cm forward - Port Adelaide)
One of the smallest players in the SA squad, Wilson is the cousin of Danyle Pearce and isn't too dissimilar. Aside from a couple of reserves games, Wilson has primarily played U18 football for Port Adelaide and won a Rising Star nomination earlier this year.
Very clean hands, coupled with his speed and natural ability, makes him an exciting prospect in the forward half. AFL Comparison: Jeff Garlett.
From: (Geelong Falcons, Vic)
DOB: 15/06/93
Height: 200cm
Weight: 86Kg
KEVIN SHEEHAN SAYS
"Averaged 10-hit outs at U18 champs. Strengths include kicking, speed, agility, positioning and marking. Averaged 12.2 disposals, four marks for Falcons. From Sth Barwon FC."
Sam Dwyer (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 29/08/1986
Recruited from: Port Melbourne
Profile: Has at VFL level been essentially the best player on the best team. Not young but is that immediate player to who can make a team better right away. Hard worker.
Has a high skill level and has really nice pace. Very agile and can dance around players. What I really like in his game is his delivery to his leading forwards, just weights it perfectly and knows where his forwards want it. Is that clear class above VFL level.
Brad Mangan
Height: 190cm, 95kg, DOB: 27/4/1991
Recruited from: Werribee Tigers
KPP/3rd tall defender from the Tigers who is pretty quick over 20m who came to prominence with some superb jobs on Mitch Hahn and Brendon Fevola in consecutive weeks in the VFL finals. Is good 1:1 and is able to play at either end of the ground, who showcased this by kicking 4 goals in one game midyear.
David Mirra
Height: 186cm, 86kg, DOB: 20/3/1991
Recruited from: Box Hill Hawks
A young player who has served his apprenticeship, won the Box Hill reserves best and fairest last year aged 19, really stepped up this year in a rebounding half back role using his sublime footskills and clean ball handling skills, Mirra could fit in across half back and release one of our many HBFers up into the middle (Myers, Heppell, Dempsey etc.). Mirra could also find himself lining up on a wing as he certainly does have a decent enough engine as it is, so one to watch that we (apparently) have some interest in.
Oliver Tweedale (NSW Scholarship Player)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 25/2/1993
From Ant555 from the Father/Son watch thread on Bomberblitz
ant555's review: Now if you have followed Humble Minions comments on the draft board or at BB you will know he has been played everywhere bar the goal umpire so far this year.
The good thing is he has managed to do a lot of good stuff in a quarter here or a half there. Was in the best players in both the TAC Cup lead in games playing various spots including wing ,forward and back as well as midfield. Has no trouble finding the footy and his ball use is pretty good although he can be guilty of trying to be a bit too cute with his kicking leading to a few dinky up and under kicks.
Played all 5 Champ games with mixed results. Started well against Metro being just outside the best including a couple of clearances.
Was quiet against SA and QLD, reasonable in the ruck against Tassie and one of NSW best in todays game after moving forward in the second half.
Now he has flaws which you would expect. He can be very quiet at times and has an annoying habit of not kicking through the ball causing him to either chip the ball a bit high or drop it short. he can kick it 50 but his best range is around 40.
For a big bloke he can find the ball on the ground very well which is why he was often used as a midfielder or winger. Marking is pretty strong but it could be better with a bit of core strength.
Has no left foot from what i have seen and despite his finesse issue his kicking is not bad and he does find targets.
Was very good forward today with 3 goal assists plus a god pick up and snap goal of his own from a stoppage but he did choke in the last quarter with 1 minute left he had the chance to kick what would have been the winning goal from 35 out dead in front after a good mark on the lead but he tried to guide the ball through rather than kick through it and it was touched in the square. It was too bad as he was the main reason NSW was in the game after half time.
Pace wise he is around the usual for a bloke his size, not quick but not ruck man slow. He is mobile and can work up and down the ground.
What do i think ? Perfect rookie selection and he is one of our scholarship players so we can take him with the last pick.
Nick Ryan (NSW Scholarship Player)
Height: 198cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB
Again, from the Father/Son watch thread from BomberBlitz
Won the Rising Star award for kids playing seniors in the Sydney league.
ant555's review: He is still on our scholarship list as he missed a lot of footy due to injury. Biggest issue for me is he is a bit of a plodder, can get beaten on the lead forward or back. His strong points are he can take a contested mark and when used in the ruck he can find the ball around the ground. Is a smart player but just lacks the physical tools to back up his game. Is a long shot to be drafted but may get an invite to play in the VFL so they can monitor his progress.
We don't need to spend a rookie draft pick if we want to take Tweeddale. As a NSW scholarship holder, we can automatically list him in one of three special scholarship rookie list spots which stand outside and in addition to the regular rookie list.
What? All the experts I've seen have been saying Markworth will probably be around at 19, and could slide down to pick 22. Kavanagh seems likely to go to Richmond if available at 15Very unlikely Daniel Markworth will last after the top 10.
Elliot Kavanagh trained with Essendon, and would be great to pick up; but then again I predict him in atleast top 10-15.
They should definatley rookie list Nick Ryan, don't want to let a rising star go to waste.
What? All the experts I've seen have been saying Markworth will probably be around at 19, and could slide down to pick 22. Kavanagh seems likely to go to Richmond if available at 15
Haven't heard much of him, what position(s) does he play?
I'd look at the following mostly from what I've read about them:
Pick 19- Daniel Markworth, Toby Greene, Elliott Kavanagh, Hayden Crozier, Taylor Adams
Pick 31- Seb Ross, Sam Kerridge, Mitchell Grigg
I've heard that he'll go to North at 18. I would love him, but I can't see it happening. I really really really want GreeneI'd be happy with any of these three. I also like Brad McKenzie at 19 - we could do with his kicking skills.
Would people be happy with Ellis (small defender) as our first pick.
Would you look at both Ryan and Tweedale providing we can get them outside the list?
Would people be happy with Ellis (small defender) as our first pick.
