The more I read the more I'm warming to taking membrey, personally I think stringer and wines will be gone..

And your man graham was great! (From the small bits n pieces I seen)
I like Membrey too, big strong body and a leader who hits the contest hard with an elite kick and good at winning the ground ball. Get this man a beep test and get him in the midfield!

Would love EP/ Crane6 to tell us (If they know of course) who we will be targeting. Be good to have a definitive answer as opposed to all the "we should go after ....." posts.

I would be shocked if anything is coming out of the recruitment department. Not sure they would have presented to the board their thoughts on the draft at the moment as well.

These American athletes invited to the draft look interesting.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/147940/default.aspx - down at the bottom.

Three of them are listed as KPP height and they all pretty much recorded superior leap stats to go with nice agility and sprint tests.

Basketball and NFL has reasonable game style teaching and these guys could do with two years on a rookie list.

Imagine them up forward getting seperation or leaping over opponents.

Am I not the only one expecting a fairly big clean out this year. Mainly because it's the time to do so and the opportunity is now. There are a fair few players on our list who are in their mid 20s that haven't really made it and IMO just not quite up to it. Bower, Ellard, Joseph and maybe Davies and Collins though they are yet to be proven. We know Thronton, Russell and Kerr are gone. The rookies in Touhy, Curnow, Bell and Casboult are to be promoted which is fantastic and there is two extra places on the main list next year. We've done exceptionally well with our rookie drafting and a big reason why we should be a force in 4-6 years, if we draft well now and don't leave the rebuild until our premiership window closes (IMO it's open for the next 3 years).

The next generation of players (Dale, Lucas, Buckley, Bootsma, Mitchell, Watson, Mcinness, McCarthy) are coming along fairly well and coming of age over the next few seasons. Another reason why we should be good in 4-6 years from now. The draft is also meant to be fairly good this season too and it would be good to have 4 picks in it and two or three in the rookie draft.

It's time to have a bit of a clean out now to prepare for when Judd, Waite, Scotland, Carrazzo, Duigan and Simpsons decline/retire. Not to mention Mclean, Jamison or Warnock possibly breaking down again. Players take a minimum of 3 years before they start playing really good footy and the guys mentioned will be about finished in 3 years. That's a fairly long list of quality and we want to come away from this strongly. Sydney, Collingwood and Hawthorn have proved that bottoming out after the premiership window closes is not the way to go and is not necessary. They have proved with good list management and good drafting with understanding of future requirements is the best way to go.

Also lets face it, if we have to dig deep into our depth, we aren't going to win a flag, no matter how good or deep our dept is, a heap of depth players is never good enough to win the premiership. It's good to have some depth, but you can run too deep with mature depth and that will hurt you down the track when the window closes.

We should be looking to fill the bottom aged part of our list with good midfielders and a good 200cm+ ruckman who can take a mark.

We need to draft now for the 2014/2015 season when the group I mentioned earlier is about finished or playing other less significant roles. We should still be fairly strong by this time but this is another period when an even bigger chunk of our list will be close to retiring. If we do it well, we can have a crack at the flag in 4 or 6 years time as well as over the next three years. If we don't do it well we could go the way of the Bulldogs or Saints and bottom out badly. IMO If we draft really well now we could be a massive threat in 4 or 5 years time, more so than we are now perhaps.

This is one of the most important drafts in years and one of the most important times for those managing our list. It's going to be really interesting to see what we do in this draft, would be glad to see a few extra new faces and grab a few bargains.

It's a pity about Bower. He plays like someone who needs the other shoe to drop. De-list him now, and I think a year in the city leagues could make him a very good footballer. He can't say we haven't given him enough chances.

So at this stage we have picks: 11....33....52....70

Feeling confident that if left as is, we'll put ourselves in a position to clip all the four.
I'd like for us to see whether we can push ourselves a little further to the fore with selections if we can trade some players also.

To score another first rounder would be terrific and a vote of confidence for Rogers. Hope we can do it.
If we can score another first round, I can see us using that pick with pick 11 heading north to facilitate the trade for Caddy (and Toy if we can get him).

yep not sure we have to be too hasty on giving up 11 for Caddy. He has missed a year so not miles ahead in terms of development and was it a shoulder reco at the end of this year?

While I'd love caddy, I personally think there would be more upside to Stringer and Membrey (there's that name again) I'd rather hang onto our early picks maybe try and land another in the first or second and possibly entertain Koby.

Any chance at all of both? Warnock for Caddy? Three way trading?

I'd like to get Caddy, but I'd only trade 11 if they include Toy or another player they need to delist to cut their list. The Australian claims Toy, Flanagan and Jolly could be cut. Menzel or Stringer have question marks against them due to injuries, so they're not safer bets than Caddy. Knowing our luck, they'll find Joel Selwood's miracle cure and prove a lot of clubs wrong.

Feel a bigger mid such as Caddy ticks more boxes than Kennedy who is jockey sized like Ballantyne. I'd be more interested in the upside of Jaksch who could slot in nicely alongside Henderson, McInnes, Jamison, Watson, Laidler, Mitchell and McCarthy.

Has already walked out is not a fan of our very own Simon Fletcher.

If we could then trade in another first round pick and get Stringer I would be absolutely over the moon.
Adding Toy, Caddy, and Stringer would certainly be adding class to our team, even with the question marks over Toy.

In a perfect world maybe, but highly unlikely unless caddy nominates us only and plays a bit of hardball.. If we landed something for knockers it's a possibility but like I said the planets would certainly have to align..
Well yeah, but the do align once in a while... Don't they? Anyone?

Just wondering whether a reason that we may have backed off Lynch was that we may still be keen on the compo picks we may receive for Russell and Thornton?
Had have we got Lynch, they may have been all but annulled.
Very big chance that nobody will pickup Russell and Thornton. IMO they will be just playing in SANFL next year. Both past their prime and not showing any form. GC have to get rid of players not get more so they only want to upgrade picks and will not import older players. Sheedy has already shown what sort of senior players he wants and our two are not elite enough. Port or Melbourne would be the only remote chanced

With 18 teams in the AFL, even Bower should get a spot somewhere.
Yep. SANFL or WAFL.
Thornton, Russell and Bower could not get a game in an injury ravaged team that finished in the bottom half of the ladder. They are unwanted spuds in 2012. Ratten's inability to get a job in 2013 should tell people that supporters often have an overly high opinion of their players and coaches.
