Agree - Stringer should be our No. 1 target as can be a hard mid or give us some Jack Darling-esq play in the forward line which we definitely need. Has the X-Factor to take us to the top of the tree in a couple of years. Will be primed to breakout and take the Bluebaggers to a 2014 Flag.

May and just a little better makes it sound like you have doubts and they're amateurs.

They'd put all of the experts on here in the corner with their knowledge and their process.

Yeah, I think our player culture is actually pretty solid. Scotto got in trouble, but he backing his brother. The booze cruise was the last ****-up and that was two seasons ago now, and led to a revitalized Eddie, Walks and Hoops. Even Levi turned out fine from that.

I mean there is one picture from circa 2009 of Eddie and Mitch which does the rounds, but I think the playing group's public standing is pretty good
 
I dont think Stringer is really a risk.. anyone who saw him play in the later part of the year could see he was making significant strides and really found some good form. He is also a bloke who will do everything possible to get back to 100%.

If Stringer or Menzel are available at our pick i think we must pounce, both are extremely talented and would of been top 5 if not for their injuries. Its a good risk to take, Id be keener on Stringer because he is less of a risk.

We must take Stringer, Menzel, Plowman if available before the likes of Jacksh, Garlett, McRae, Vlaustin.

People keen on Vlaustin should want Stringer. as he is a better version of Vlaustin

What ever happened to Christopher Yarran I remember he was highly rated a few years back but now Iccan't even find a mention anywhere

If it was my job to do what Rogers is paid to do, I think I could pull rank over some of us that just get to a few games or watch a bit of Youtube when determining a players value.

We'll still have some here and at any other club that will come out with an "I told you so" when they do guess on a player or two.

What we're largely doing here is what we do on Melbourne Cup day.

Funny thing about the Melbourne Cup comparison is that even the experts who spend every waking hour on this can get it very very wrong. One major difference is that with the Draft this year, the top 1 (2 really) are already determined. The other 80+ picks... well that's another story.
 
With Grundy possibly being either pick 7 or onwards and may make it to our pick, would people here be annoyed if we took him??? He does sound the goods as far as ruckmen are concerned. He and Kruezer in a few years would be very handy.

I'm not sure either way as I am hanging for a mid to be honest. But we do know the "best available" line.
I think I am back on the Vlastuin/Stringer/Mayes bandwagon

Got no issue with taking Grundy if he is head and shoulders above others available at our pick...will show myself out.

That's what I was getting at. :p

You still appear to have some doubts though. :)

All the experts will crawl out of the woodwork after the draft. :confused:

We don't hesitate and take our time like some other clubs.

Phantom drafts are good reading if you're a footy tragic, yet they're just a different and more worthwhile version of all that dreamteam and supercoach garbage.

Like I've said all along - I'd be more confident of selecting Garlett if we had of secured Andrew McLeod. But I still firmly believe we should pick him, because natural talent is too dangerous to ignore, and our position on the ladder this year is not reflective of the current list we have (thanks to injuries) - so we should see this as a bonus addition.

A beep test of 12 is something similar to what Yarran would have had when he first came to the club ... but then again, he wasn't touted to be a full time midfielder straight away.

The other thing is I would expect Jeffy would know ALL ABOUT his off-field issues, and would probably be asked to comment on them in regards to his possible selection by the club. I don't think Jeffy would burn the club by telling them he is a saint if he isn't, and I would back Jeffy and the rest of the boys to "turn him around" if he does end up at Carlton.

Why do I have the feeling Melbourne will "Barry Prendergast" another draft?

Passing on a potential 200 game ruck with the right pick is a stupid policy that neglects the long term benefits of a cornerstone of successfull sides.

Wow having the top 3 going Whitfield, Menzel and Plowman would be HUGE. It would really put question marks on how much Melbourne want Wines, a kid who would bleed for the club and has a great relationship with the Vineys, compared to a Grundy, the ruckman they should probably take, and Toumpas, probably the best available. The trickle down effect would also be interesting, I am sure that the Bulldogs would be HUGE winners if they could walk away with Toumpas AND O'rourke/Stinger/Macrae etc.

It would be HUGE for the Bulldogs if the draft ended up as


#1, Whitfield
#2. Menzel
#3. Plowman
#4. Grundy
#5. Toumpas
#6. Wines

Me: @BrettAndersonIF who the blues looking at for #11? Hope it's a mid - would love Stringer if still there.
Him: @emtwenty Its looking likely that he may be the Blues pick.

Very excited if this turns out to be the case.
 
I posted awhile back on the GWS board that apart from Whitfield they have the benefit of drafting for a needs basis and could take a couple of not so much left field selections but 1 or 2 that could reshape the draft entirely.. Plowman to GWS for mine also. 9 days left :/ I'm going into therapy until DDAY!
