Yeh I rate him a bit. Just another name that people have decided to write off. Think its just his impact and awareness in contested situations holding him back, his kicking when outside is fine. Kind of the opposite to swift really. We need to fuse them together?

For mine he is in front of Neates and Strijk on the main squad keep list.
Fully agree

You mean like Dalziell, Hams, Strijk, Stevenson and any number of other mature well developed players on our list unlikely to be in our team except in case of injury? Clearly have no idea. What is your plan kane? Get together the best 22 you can then fill the rest with kids who if they dont become superstars by 22, turf out and start again?

Thank god your not running ANYTHING.

Well the truth is we have to unload at least three players at the end of the year and dalziell would be one of those players in the gun

See Keys response, like it or not we have to keep turning over our list with at least 3 cut every year. This years draft is rated as a good one so if we want to cash in on it we have to make the call on players.

People like Dalziell, Strijk and Stevenson who are now mid 20's and who still haven't cemented their spot in the 22 or even regularly making the team sheets by now are the ones who are facing the chop. Add to it a plethora of younger kids on the fringes of the side or just in it like Sheppard, Stevens, Smith, Swift, Newman, Mcginnity, Brennan, etc who continually get preferred over them and you can see where the match committee thinks our future lies. One of the only way the 3 listed in the first sentence will survive is if they are preferred over Weedon, Neates and Wilson who are also under question to retain their spots by some (personally I think it's way too early to call on any of them yet myself). The only other way they can stay is if other players are traded or retire which would ease pressure on list spots.

AFL's a cut throat business, and there's only so long you can retain "depth" players who just hang around the list as your insurance policy before you do have to look to the future and try other players who might actually crack the best 22 and improve it.

SUNDAY TIMES "PICK ME "

A Strijk - K 15 H 5 M 4 - Poor conversion but always a goal threat . Spell check done
B Dalziell - K 14 H 14 M 8 - Terrific all day in midfield and kicked three goals .
B Dick - K 8 H 2 M 3 - Good signs up forward with two goals .

Dalziell terrific , must be approaching full fitness too !

At least the Sunday Times knows which AFL teams the players are allocated to. The West on Monday had Pitt listed as an Eagles player (and not for the first time IIRC) - as though we would have a spud like him on our list. The Royals should send him back to the Reserves - he is not worthy of a league game.

Was Strijk crapping on about carbon tax or something?

Would Dalziell offer more than Stevens or a Swift?
At this stage I'd say yes to both. Quicker than Stevens, more composed than swift.

May be worth having him as a high half forward and bringing Mas ten into the middle to replace Swift (Shuey)

Yep, people are pretty harsh on Dalziell, who is still only 23/24 IIRC. Second half of last year he was sent back to the WAFL with the specific instruction of cleaning up his disposal and making it more damaging. AFAIK the MC was happy with his progress in that area and late last year had a couple of blinders.

IF you were making the decision on where players are now, in terms of development and output, he would be a long way ahead of at least 10 players, I would think. He does at least offer a very servicable backup that can slot into an AFL team when required.

25. Still, you get the impression he's the type who will peak late being more of a runner than a natural footballer.
