SUNDAY TIMES " REVIEW "

A Selwood - K 18 H 16 M 4 - Eleven touch third term capped dominant game .
R Neates - K 10 H 5 M 6 - Solid outing without getting much on the scoreboard .
L Stevenson - K 12 H 4 M 7 - Good in defence that saw little action .
G Weedon - K 11 H 3 M 5 - Finding some form in defensive role .
J McGovern - K 5 H 6 M 4 - Solid back-up to Andrew Ruck in the ruck .
T Swift - K 11 H 10 M 2 - Another strong midfield display .
F McIness - K 10 H 8 M 8 Gls 1 - Provided a strong target up forward .
A Smith - K 15 H 9 M 4 - A strong display in defence .
Strong display. Solid outing. Good in defence. Someone should tell these guys not to use such weak adjectives.

Is there really a player called Andrew Ruck who plays in the ruck?

Yes there is and he is very good , but missed 12 months with a knee , so he is back and so are Claremont .

I reckon its pretty good that the Sunday Times and The West have correspondents at all the WAFL games

whilst the cuts are needed my understanding was that papertalk was scouted in the country and encouraged to try out in perth, so surely will be given time to adjust to city living and professional training .If AFL teams draft outside the prescribed areas they should be prepared to actually have patience and develop players .

Yeah I know, just the reality of list management is always a problem. Could always elevate a player or two.

THE WEST " REVIEW "

B Dalziell ( PT ) - Had 24 touches in the Peel Reserves in a second solid hit-out back from a knee injury .
A Hamp - Worked hard in the reserves for 16 possessions and two goals .
M Mascoulis - Just five disposals in his return to action before getting injured .

Mascoulis is a health hazard to himself when he plays , I think i might add him to my list of gone , especially with xtra list next year and only four rookies I think .

Good to see brad dalziell with a good game 3 goals 28 disposals dick was ok 2 goals. Wonder if dalziell will play for us again? Anyone else have an opinion?

Only if we are desperate and even then I would rather be pumping games into Stevens and Swift ahead of him

I would think unless we are desperate we would keep him on the list. Would be more than servicable backup if Rosa/Gaff both went down.

Would be nothing but a list clogger taking the spot of a youngster who might actually be able to offer us something more. If we were that desperate for serviceable backups we could have kept people like Staker, Seaby, Armstrong, Spangher and others around as well.

You mean like Dalziell, Hams, Strijk, Stevenson and any number of other mature well developed players on our list unlikely to be in our team except in case of injury? Clearly have no idea. What is your plan kane? Get together the best 22 you can then fill the rest with kids who if they dont become superstars by 22, turf out and start again?

Thank god your not running ANYTHING.

Well the truth is we have to unload at least three players at the end of the year and dalziell would be one of those players in the gun

Just looking over some of the WAFL performances this year...... if we had a stand alone team would it actaully dominate? I mean really, even if we had a fully fit list, the back up forward line would not be that good and it would be made up of mainly mid sized players.

I don't mean to stoke the fires of the "Eagles should/should not have a stand alone team" but some weeks the WAFL performances aren't amazing.

it's all about WAFL clubs not wanting to lose all their AFL players.

that's all it is.

I personally don't think Razzle Dazzle is a list-clogger / he was BOG in the game against GWS until he was injured. If he can get back to that form, he is very much a needed player. The kick on him before was his poor disposal, but worked hard on that and in the GWS game, his kicking was exceptional. Keep him.
It will be hard pruning from the list at the end of the season. Even Hamp was very good today, and I have a lot of time for him. It'll be tough!

I was at the game and Dalziell's stats were helped by the fact that he was basically playing against witches hats :( The worst performance by any East Perth team for a long, long time. Woosha was in the stand so he would have taken Dalziell's effort for what it was - hopefully. I hope I never see him in an Eagles jumper again - would much prefer to get games into some kids than waste them on him.

Think people are really harsh on Dalziell around here - he hasn't had the opportunity to play for us very much due to injury and when he has he's certainly been ok. Still only young too - hope he comes good.

Yeh I rate him a bit. Just another name that people have decided to write off. Think its just his impact and awareness in contested situations holding him back, his kicking when outside is fine. Kind of the opposite to swift really. We need to fuse them together?

For mine he is in front of Neates and Strijk on the main squad keep list.
