Likewise, especially if CH7 decide to show the games in HD. Anyone had any confirmation on this?

Not unless they change the ratings system I would say, they would have to show the game on 7Mate and would therefore lose ratings on 7 if they simulcast it.

Much like how the GF this year was filmed in HD but Ten only showed it on their main SD chan and not on ONEHD so they could pocket all the ratings.

Really, the ratings system in this country has a lot to answer for in the way we watch sport.

"The increase in free-to-air viewing is a great advantage because our figures say we get one in 10 supporters to become members."

What a very odd thing to say and how to prove it. I don't remember ever being asked why I became a member.
Reality is that Geelong supporters, who live outside Melbourne, find it hard to get to Geelong games on Friday nights. And Brian Cook stated this year that he had just realised that. Seems that nothing much has happened and once again the GFC accepts what is dished up to them by the AFL, without a whimper.
So if you can't get there you are unlikely to pay for a memberships, which is after all mainly about going to games, or the membership will be at the lowest $ level.
This draw seems to be more about getting the lower ranked, at least for this year, teams into a better position rather than being equitable. But then the AFL is about entertainment and $s.

i am still going to rig up foxtel to the house for next season. esp if they have a dedicated footy channel and are showing the C7 games live as well. I cant stand commercials during play, even if its between goals.
does anyone know, provided fox do the C7 games if it has it's own commentators as well? or do they have the 7 commentators?
Personally i hope foxtel have their own commentators for those games. so sick and tired of bruce and cometti s#!+s me to tears. Lost all respect from me (kinda like the straw that broke the camel's back) when he took a what i thought was a cheap shot at menzel after doing his knee in the qualy..... f$$kwit!!!
said his birthday will be a "blue monday" after having done his knee. catering to his own massive ego at the expense of a player having done what menz did.

Apologies, i've gotten way off track..i hate 7!! :P

Its a shame we didnt put financial losses aside and host the Pies home game at Kardina earlier on for the unfurling..... :D

Yes it would be sweet.

But I think its less about revenue and more about how many can see the game. I don't think we get a choice as to where we play the Pies - AFL just tell us its the G.

Especially with all games to be shown live next year - if people find it even minutely difficult to get to a friday night game they will opt for staying at home and watching it from the nice warm luxury of their home.

Friday night games being shown live will certainly impact on membership.

I know from my own point of view its really hard for me to get to friday night games as I live 150ks away - I need everything to fall into place to get there before the bounce of the ball.
Still, live games or not I will still have a membership!!

As far as I understand, anything broadcast on fox will have their own commentators using 7's cameras.

I would have thought that any drop-off we experience with memberships would be offset by the greater leverage we will have with sponsorships from the increased exposure we can offer to their organisation. Also, I could see people possibly dropping down a rung in membership, due to the live games, but not falling away altogether. Hence, they would still be counted in the final tally. As long as we get the revenue one way or the other, I'm not really fussed. Better odds for a grand final ballot...

that'd be great

I cant find the exact article but a lot of other forums have been quoting Kim Williams(Foxtel CEO) as saying they will use 7's camera feed but all Foxtel games will be live, ad free siren to siren and have their own commentary!!

On another note, 7 announced Michael Malthouse, Brian Taylor, Luke Darcy, Cameron Ling, and Brett Kirk as part of their new commentary team.

That kinda beefs them up a bit, we might be hearing less of Bruce and more of BT!!

i'd rather BT. I'm not a huge BT fan but he's less irritating than Bruce thats for sure. I like the idea of Kirk and Ling on special comments though. That intrigues me a bit

At least BT is a good caller and doesnt have to resort to crappy puns to get him by.
I dont know why Bruce has to carry on with his shit, the less I hear "deeelicious" the better - seriously, thats creepy pal.....

First off the AFL need to give up on the Carlton v Richmond season opener fetish, it's bad for the game.

That aside, I think it's a great draw for the Cats. We could easy be 10 straight after the first 10 rounds at the very worst 7 from 10. We can probably rest a few in rounds 18 and 22 against Adelaide and Bulldogs respectively. And we end the year with nice challenging run home with Hawks, Swans and West Coast in the last 5 rounds.

Yeah I agree its lost its gloss.

I can confirm that Fox *WILL NOT* be using their own commentators when re-broadcasting the Channel 7 games. It will just be the exactly the same channel 7 feed but without the ads between goals.

I'm going to be so sick of Bruuuce by the end of the season.

Hope they pair up Tommy and Lingy for the majority of our games, to make up for all the Tim Lane Robert Walls Carlton love we have had to put up with over the years ;)

Pretty happy with the draw seems to be a good balance of commercial and playing interests :thumbsu:

I agree with Exhale about playing Collingwood off 2 6 day breaks, although I am confident we can beat them I suspect it will mean a few of our older guys get 'general' that week which means those games won't give us a true indicator of where the two clubs are relative to each other.

Everytime we played Collingwood this year we had at least one day less break than they did. In Round 8 we had a six day break while they were coming off the bye, in Round 24 we had a six day break while they had a 7 day break, and we had a 7 day break before the grand final, while they had an 8 day break.

The big difference is in 2011 we played them coming of games at Skilled, this time we will be coming back from interstate on both occasions.

Not a bad fixture IMO, pretty content with it despite the fact I'll be missing out on 3 home games. Did a little analysing of it here (in brackets-my prediction):

R1 v Freo @ Subi: 50/50, never easy over there first up (loss).
R2 v Hawks @ MCG: 50/50, will be close for sure (win).
R3 v North @ Etihad: somewhat difficult, still not at 100% (win).
R4 v Tigers @ KP: lock it in (easy win).
R5 v Lions @ the Gabba: somewhat tough, playing some kids and not at 100% (win).
R6 v Dees @ KP: lock it in (10+ goal win).
R7 v Crows @ AAMI: tough contest, but I'd back us (win).
R8 v Pies @ MCG: 50/50 at best (loss).
R9 v Dogs @ Etihad: should get the choccies here, but don't think we'll play at 100% intensity (win).
R10 v GWS @ KP: LOL (belting of epic proportions).
R11 v Blues @ Etihad: 50/50, may just drop this one (loss).
R13 v Swans @ SCG: win, but will be a very tough contest (win).
R14 v Port @ KP: only thing Port may win is the coin toss (nice little percentage booster).
R15 v GC @ Metricon: lock it in (another big win).
R16 v Pies @ MCG: 50/50, however we'll be playing for a lot at this stage of the season (tough win).
R17 v Bombers @ Etihad: 50/50, could go either way (win).
R18 v Crows @ KP: lock it in (win).
R19 v Hawks @ MCG: 50/50, will be a crucial match at that stage of the season (another close win).
R20 v Eagles @ Subi: 50/50 at best, we'll be sore and managing key players (loss).
R21 v Saints @ Etihad: should win at this stage of the season (easy win).
R22 v Dogs @ KP: lock it in (easy win).
R23 v Swans @ KP: could lose this again, but I'd back us here (win).

That would leave us at 18-4, probably enough to get ourselves 2nd or 3rd position. The 50/50 matches will be crucial, however we are a side that typically wins most of these.

The fixturing of rounds 15, 16 and 17 games for Geelong is shocking.

Teams are struggling with niggles by this time and to schedule
an interstate game followed by effectively two AWAY games with consecutive 6 day breaks is just wrong.

Collingwood and Essendon must be rapt with this outcome.

Who knows? Its crystal ball stuff isn't it?

However, I recon 18-4 will get you top spot next season. Pies won't win all their tough ones, nor will Hawks, eps. if they loose the two against us as you have them doing in the above scenario.

Can Blues or WCE win 18 and have a better %?
