There are other teams?
Very glad to hear Maguire and Bewick have resigned, not that they were in doubt.

Bewick especially is a player who I think might surprise in the next few years. He may not be a top line player but I just get the feeling he is one of those players who keeps improving far more than expected.

I read that and the first thing that came into my head was "Don't you *like* Shannon Byrnes?" :oops:
Why is that? Put yourself in his shoes. Would you prefer to play in the VFL for the remainder of your career because you can't get a game at Geelong or go to Melbourne and finish the last few years of your career playing games in the AFL. I know which option I would prefer. You could also get the satisfaction of helping develop the younger Demons players and as he watches them grow into good players he will know he had something to do with it.

Salopek is worth investigating, high draft pick, a heap of talent, put together some good football, shocking club, not sure where it all went wrong for him. Could be a low cost high reward, not sure.

What you say is quite true - but I had no idea who he was or where he was playing so just assumed he was a listed AFL player at another club - the reaction was based around being happy that someone was going to the demons from another club ... in the circumstances you have described happy for him too :)

Dropped to the reserves in the SANFL at one stage this year. Might of been sulking from the way Port had treated him but he doesn't have anything left to offer an AFL club.

Don't mind the idea of Salopek. Think at full fitness he would be in our best 22 based on his historical output (maybe not most recent) Interesting part of that article is his mistake in piling on the kg's to compete more inside which backfired. Hint of mismanagement there by the power fitness staff, would be interesting to see who drove that. Age isn't too bad for what we would want him for. If he didn't cost too much I wouldn't be adverse to picking him up. Certainly provides another outside receiving option in the midfield.

Came from the same draft as;
Goddard, Wells, Brennan, Mackie, McVeigh, Merrett, Gilham, Staker, Watson, Patfull, A Selwood, K Simpson, Sewell, Maxwell....etc etc

So certainly a few years left in him if he gets back to a more natural playing weight for him, which it looks like he's well on the way.

Not for us. I don't think that he would be in our best 25, let alone 22.
You can't be serious :eek: the only reason Salopek has not become a bonifide gun midfielder of the comp is his hamstring wont allow him to have a decent crack at AFL football. I remember a few seasons ago he was ready to break out in a major way....then injuries.

He's usually a thumping kick of the footy too. And accurate.

That being said, I think returning back to Melbourne is the reason he'd be leaving Port.

Chris Knights has apparently just walked out on the Crows as a free agent. Whilst he may prefer to come back to Melbourne and has been linked with Richmond, he'd be a good get for our midfield. Is 26, played 96 games.

Twice - at two different clubs (Port Power thought maybe it was the SANFL club playing politics... moved him to another one... rinse & repeat)

Yes to Salopek. With Raines form improving, Stiller gone and Banfield in the 2's we need a new whipping boy. Plus nobody has whipped out the crazy Vossy meme for a while.
