With the fixture just around the corner I was thinking will the AFL still see us as a big draw card,IE Friday night games and big contests or will they look upon us like the Saints of 2011 finishing 6th and only playing one final 8 side twice in 2012.
I would love what the Saints had this year to play twice Gold Coast,The Dogs,Melb,Carlton and Sydney.
Alas I think it will be,Hawks,Collingwood.Sydney,West Coast, and Freo.

we are going to get a tough draw, bank on it mate.

Will hardly change from last year's draw, unfairly or not, depending on how you wanna look at it, it's not going to be pretty.
They know they got us in a vulnerable spot and will be a perfect time to put the foot down.

If we are in Perth twice and don't see either here im gunna spew..

Hawthorn twice thanks - 8 points in the bag - sure to be suffering a hangover of some description

Not fussed who we get early, keen to see our run home with all our home games in Geelong back-ended

But yeah, no doubt we will get screwed if only to prove their equalization policy is working, only hope they get it wrong, think Adelaide, Sydney this year..

And we finished 7th too. They will not allow for that, the AFL would be keen for us to stay out of finals action for some time, with their socilalistic/ equalisation policy.
But I can feel a new sense of Swans hatred emerging. Flag, then Tippett with ongoing draft comcessions??

I reckon we will only play collingwood once. Richmond, Essendon, Carlton should all be thereabouts next year, as well as Hawthorn and Sydney attractive for tv and AFL attendance wise in games against Collingwood.

No doubt we will get Hawthorn twice.

We better not get screwed over only playing the Perth teams once, in Perth, for the 100th year in a row.

Hopefully we get Sydney or Hawks in the first two rounds. They'll not be ready and it's a big advantage to get a win against them early. They'll be a much tougher ask if we get them after round 15.

Round 1 falls on Easter weekend, so you would assume that we may get Hawks first up on Easter Monday as I think they are trying to turn it into a traditional game each year

I'll call it here.
2 Perth trips, neither at home.
Will play GC and GWS once each, both away.
Will play less than 5 night games and 1/3 or less of our games will be on free to air.
Will have 3 6-day breaks and have a crappy last 4 games.

Gotta be honest, we are a club with some financial success and stability in a town that lives the GFC, the AFL have no reason to ensure we are successful over other teams like the Swans, Lions, GWS, GC etc so we WILL get a hard draw, we WILL have to make concessions and we WILL NOT get what we want/deserve (especially come home games).

The AFL really is becoming just another money powered business that does things to suit themselves/bottom line.

Considering that Round 1 falls on Easter, I presume we'll be playing Hawthorn first up on the Monday. And according to yesterday's Addy, our first home game at Kardinia Park will most likely be against the Suns in Round 10 on a Saturday night.
And what's the bet the AFL give us another home game at Etihad next season against the Dogs/Saints/Richmond etc.? I would hope for 7 home games in Geelong and 4 at the MCG, but the AFL will find a way to screw us over.
Another thing I'd like is away games against Port Adelaide and Melbourne (which I don't think we'll get), and to play St. Kilda, West Coast, and Freo all in Geelong (Eagles/Dockers because they request not to play us here, and the Saints due to the fact they are no longer in contention and are due for a trip down this way).

A Cherokee Legend

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

For me the AFL really "jumped the shark" this year. The Fat Controller, those who rig the FIXture, the MRP and the glow in the dark maggots can get stuffed.

I am voting with my wallet. No more ALF merchandise and no more attendance at any non-Kardinia games for this little black cat.

I will no longer feed the AFL wolf.

We got the rough end of the stick this year that's for sure but partly because of bad luck. The AFL didn't know Sydney and Adelaide would be top two and we ended up playing them twice! Defiantly the toughest draw of any team. If we can get a saints or tigers twice instead then the draw will be easier. Think positive

sure they did, they gave em the best draw out of the remaining 16 teams ;)

Will say though...shows how piss poor St Kilda were/are, handed a fine draw and still miss the final 8.
(hope VEEDUBS ain't around) if they get anything remotely tougher in 2013, they'll be finishing 6th from bottom

Adelaide yes, Sydney not so much. Swans had a dream run injury wise. Hopefully the injuries sustained in the finals can throw them out a bit next year

yeh agree and we could gain a few handy blokes, Varcoe, Menzel, Vardy, possibly someone decent from trade week on top of those blokes

hope so

I am still recovering from the shock of learning that the AFL scheduled the reigning premieres to travel to Perth round 1 this year?!?

Don't know why that was a big surprise, considering we travelled in Round 1 in 2008 too and played our first home game of the year in 2010 at the MCG.

I can see us getting majorly screwed in the fixture next year. We'll probably play West Coast, Freo, Collingwood, Gold Coast and GWS once each, all as the away side.

Add to that home games against Essendon and St.Kilda at Etihad and Carlton at the MCG, where they play well against us.

Our home games at Simonds will probably be against Port, Western Bulldogs, Melbourne, Adelaide, Richmond, North Melbourne and Sydney.

I hope we get the hardest draw possible.
Give the young guys coming through the belief that every game will be tough and they have to be at their best at all time.
No whiny "you had an easy draw" when we trump them all.

Most importantly, that sweet feeling we'll get when we know we've won the flag against the odds.

I'm bored, so I thought I'd have a crack at how I think our fixture will pan out. Will probably be miles off what we do get though:

Round 1. - Monday 1st April - Hawthorn vs Geelong (MCG)
Round 2. - Sunday 7th April - Geelong vs St.Kilda (Etihad)
Round 3. - Saturday 13th April - Gold Coast vs Geelong (Metricon) (n)
Round 4. - Friday 19th April - Collingwood vs Geelong (MCG) (n)
Round 5. - Friday 26th April - Fremantle vs Geelong (PS) (n)
Round 6. - Sunday 5th May - Geelong vs Carlton (MCG)
Round 7. - Saturday 11th May - Geelong vs Essendon (Etihad) (n)
Round 8. - Saturday 18th May - West Coast vs Geelong (PS) (n)
Round 9. - Sunday 26th May - Western Bulldogs vs Geelong (Etihad)
Round 10 - Saturday 1st June - Geelong vs Sydney (Simonds) (twilight)
Round 11 - Saturday 8th June - Geelong vs Brisbane (Simonds)
Round 12 - Friday 14th June - Adelaide vs Geelong (AAMI) (n)
Round 13 - BYE
Round 14 - Sunday 30th June - Geelong vs Richmond (Simonds)
Round 15 - Saturday 6th July - North Melbourne vs Geelong (Etihad) (n)
Round 16 - Saturday 13th July - Geelong vs Hawthorn (MCG)
Round 17 - Sunday 21st July - St.Kilda vs Geelong (Etihad)
Round 18 - Sunday 28th July - Geelong vs Port Adelaide (Simonds)
Round 19 - Saturday 3rd August - GWS vs Geelong (Skoda)
Round 20 - Saturday 10th August - Geelong vs Melbourne (Simonds) (twilight)
Round 21 - Saturday 17th August - Sydney vs Geelong (SCG) (n)
Round 22 - Saturday 24th August - Geelong vs West Coast (Simonds)
Round 23 - Saturday 31st August - Geelong vs Adelaide (Simonds)

That fixture would see us play Hawthorn, St.Kilda, Sydney, West Coast and Adelaide twice, while we'd play all of the bottom four once, with six trips interstate, including 2 to Perth.

I dare say they'll get us over to play the Purple Piss while the memory of them beating us is fresh in the fan's minds. Maximise attendance.

Add to that home games against Essendon and St.Kilda at Etihad and Carlton at the MCG, where they play well against us.

Id' love a home game against Carlton at the MCG. IIRC we haven't had a home game against the Blues there since 2000.

Anyhow, if I could choose our fixture for next season, it would go something along the lines of this-

Simonds Home: Richmond, St. Kilda, Kangaroos, West Coast, Fremantle, Sydney, Gold Coast
MCG Home: Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Hawthorn
MCG Away: Collingwood, Richmond, Hawthorn, Melbourne
Etihad Away: Essendon, W Bulldogs
Interstate: Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, GWS Giants
Twice: Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon, Hawthorn, Gold Coast

On the other hand, this is what I think we might get-

Simonds Home: St. Kilda, Kangaroos, Melbourne, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Sydney, Gold Coast
MCG Home: Collingwood, Hawthorn
Etihad Home: Essendon, Richmond
MCG Away: Collingwood, Hawthorn
Etihad Away: St. Kilda, W Bulldogs, Carlton
Interstate: West Coast, Fremantle, Sydney, GWS Giants, Adelaide, Brisbane
Twice: Collingwood, Hawthorn, St. Kilda, Adelaide, Sydney

I don't buy into the conspiracy AFL-designs-the-draw-to-advantage-certain-teams theories.

Still, you know that we're going to get a tougher draw than most for the simple fact that we WILL play Hawthorn twice, and will probably play the Pies twice as well.

I have no issue with that either, I love those games and would rather see that than playing the Dogs or Port twice over.

I'll be livid if we don't have at least one of the WA teams travel to Geelong (playing one over there and one over here would be a good result) and play at least one of Melbourne, GC or GWS twice.

We finished 7th and should not receive a draw worthy of a top 4 team.

Would be less than pleased if the AFL gave us that.

I will scream if neither the Weagles or Frockers play us over here next year. Have a funny feeling the AFL will manage to send us twice to Subiaco again. Frankly I hope we don't play there at all, that place needs to be bulldozed.

I'd love to play a big side next season for one of our home games at Kardinia Park (Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn) and don't see any reason why it shouldn't happen with the new light towers and larger capacity.
