A Cherokee Legend

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

For me the AFL really "jumped the shark" this year. The Fat Controller, those who rig the FIXture, the MRP and the glow in the dark maggots can get stuffed.

I am voting with my wallet. No more ALF merchandise and no more attendance at any non-Kardinia games for this little black cat.

I will no longer feed the AFL wolf.

But he was so cute an cuddly ;)

But totally agree its time we get a somewhat favourable draw i.e. West Coast and Fremantle coming over to KP to play instead of us having to go over there and a couple of games against one of the bottom 4 from last year

We played them there on the Anzac day weekend in 2010 and got belted.

To be honest, I'm a bit bemused at the persecution complexes on here. We've been a top two team for five straight years and the AFL created our fixtures accordingly (not that it really mattered much until 2012). They want to protect teams like GWS, GC, Melbourne and Port Adelaide from 25 goal+ beltings and there's plenty of teams that are better equipped than us to dish those out next year. What was our biggest win in 2012...10-11 goals? As fpm84 said, we are not a top two, (or even top four) team, so logic would dictate that we shouldn't get as hard a run with interstate trips (with no return game in Geelong) and the teams that we play twice. The only team we should be locked in to play twice is Hawthorn.

By that I meant a home game- the game on that Anzac day weekend was an away game. Just checked stats.rleague and the last time we had a home game against Carlton at the MCG was in 2001. Unfortunately, I see us playing them (and the Bombers) at Etihad for the umpteenth time next season.

Have not played the following teams at these venues for a while:-

Melbourne at MCG (last time was 2010)
Richmond at MCG
Brisbane Lions at Symons Stadium
GWS at Skoda Stadium
North Melbourne on a Friday Night at Etihad

No, I'd like them at Simonds again after their hissy fit to the AFL this season. Wouldn't mind playing them twice actually (once at the MCG and once at KP).
And as for all the posters wanting to play the Hawks and/or a big club at Geelong- maybe we could do so in a NAB cup game? It's unlikely we'll play them here for a H&A game ATM, so we could just settle for that.

I'm bored, so I thought I'd have a crack at how I think our fixture will pan out. Will probably be miles off what we do get though:

Round 1. - Monday 1st April - Hawthorn vs Geelong (MCG)
Round 2. - Sunday 7th April - Geelong vs St.Kilda (Etihad)
Round 3. - Saturday 13th April - Gold Coast vs Geelong (Metricon) (n)
Round 4. - Friday 19th April - Collingwood vs Geelong (MCG) (n)
Round 5. - Friday 26th April - Fremantle vs Geelong (PS) (n)
Round 6. - Sunday 5th May - Geelong vs Carlton (MCG)
Round 7. - Saturday 11th May - Geelong vs Essendon (Etihad) (n)
Round 8. - Saturday 18th May - West Coast vs Geelong (PS) (n)
Round 9. - Sunday 26th May - Western Bulldogs vs Geelong (Etihad)
Round 10 - Saturday 1st June - Geelong vs Sydney (Simonds) (twilight)
Round 11 - Saturday 8th June - Geelong vs Brisbane (Simonds)
Round 12 - Friday 14th June - Adelaide vs Geelong (AAMI) (n)
Round 13 - BYE
Round 14 - Sunday 30th June - Geelong vs Richmond (Simonds)
Round 15 - Saturday 6th July - North Melbourne vs Geelong (Etihad) (n)
Round 16 - Saturday 13th July - Geelong vs Hawthorn (MCG)
Round 17 - Sunday 21st July - St.Kilda vs Geelong (Etihad)
Round 18 - Sunday 28th July - Geelong vs Port Adelaide (Simonds)
Round 19 - Saturday 3rd August - GWS vs Geelong (Skoda)
Round 20 - Saturday 10th August - Geelong vs Melbourne (Simonds) (twilight)
Round 21 - Saturday 17th August - Sydney vs Geelong (SCG) (n)
Round 22 - Saturday 24th August - Geelong vs West Coast (Simonds)
Round 23 - Saturday 31st August - Geelong vs Adelaide (Simonds)

That fixture would see us play Hawthorn, St.Kilda, Sydney, West Coast and Adelaide twice, while we'd play all of the bottom four once, with six trips interstate, including 2 to Perth.

Gillion is that you?

Isn't it funny that it was only a couple of years ago that we went 35 home and away rounds without meeting Hawthorn.

Didn't we play Port three times within that period too?

Yes that would be the logical way to think it, but this is the AFL we're talking about here (a dictatorship) where they currently have their slimy hands gripped tightly around our throat and will continue to grip tighter until we suffocate (fall outside the top 8) just to prove that their 'equalisation' policy works.

Sorry, I just don't buy that the AFL has some sort of vendetta against us...it's a fantasy, as far as I'm concerned, and you could probably go on any club's board (besides GWS and GC) and they'll be saying the same things about the AFL being out to get them for one reason or another. If the fixture is released and we've got as difficult a run as we did in 2011 and 2012, I'll be happy to admit I'm wrong. But the AFL has come out and said that they are protecting the expansion (and lowly) clubs from being thrashed week after week, so the top teams from the previous year shouldn't play them twice in the following year. We weren't a top team in 2012, so let's wait and see what happens.

Easter Monday game for rd1 against the Hawks has been confirmed

ADELAIDE will host Essendon at AAMI Stadium in the first game of the 2013 premiership season, on March 22, as part of an opening round that runs over two weekends.

Fremantle and West Coast have been fixtured to play a derby at Patersons Stadium the night after the Crows tackle the Bombers.

The following weekend Richmond and Carlton will do battle in their now-traditional Thursday night contest at the MCG.

And the monster round one will come to an end when Geelong and Hawthorn meet at the 'G on Easter Monday.

The Cats will go into the game boasting a nine-match winning streak against the Hawks.

In fact, Hawthorn has not beaten Geelong since the 2008 Grand Final.

"Scheduling opening round over two weeks enables us to showcase the start of the season on Friday and Saturday night in SA and WA in week one and then schedule the remainder of the matches over Easter in the second week, which will maximise exposure opportunities for the commencement of 2013 Toyota AFL Premiership Season," the League's general manager broadcasting, scheduling and legal affairs, Simon Lethlean told AFL.com.au

Your name does not have to be Nostradamus to work out who we would play first up.

Four consecutive 6 day breaks to begin the season? That sounds about right.
And please, no Sunday twilights at Simonds (in fact I'd rather none at all). Whilst the new lights will be a fantastic addition, I'd want to keep the amount of night games at home to roughly 2-3 per season. Plus, Sunday twilight games just suck full stop.
